Main Characters

    Shoma Yusa

Shoma Yusa

The main protagonist of OCG Structures. A soft-spoken and shy 13-year-old who loves to play the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game. He moves in with his older sister to Tokyo, where he meets up with all sorts of people and makes new friends. He has a tendency to change decks on a whim, which is usually when new cards are released.

He starts out with a Tenyi/Yang Zing hybrid deck he built during the Rising Rampage release event, after the event he refined it into a pure Tenyi deck.
Upon the release of the structure deck Warriors' Strike, he uses a Fire Warrior deck focusing on Immortal Phoenix Gearfried. After his duel against Saiko, he refined the deck to use against Tsukiko.
For the exhibition duel to showcase the new Master Rules he uses a Gaia the Fierce Knight deck.
In the finals of the Team battle event he uses a Virtual World Deck.
In his duels against Ohza he uses a Magikey deck.
In the "Challenge the World Champion" event Shoma used an Ursarctic deck against Kuroda, and a Starry Knight deck against Jukyu.
In his duel against Shiori he uses a P.U.N.K. deck.

  • Badass Adorable: He's just as cute as Yuya, and a Dueling genius at the same time.
  • Chaste Hero: Kind of justified as he's only 13, as he's isn't interested in romance and is only focused on dueling.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character:
    • While Shoma is a direct contrast to the previous "Yu" characters due to constantly changing decks after a few chapters, Yuma serves as the closest opposite to him, since both of them are Kid Heroes, have older sisters, and stable family backgrounds but have a Red Oni, Blue Oni dynamic: while Yuma is a Hot-Blooded Idiot Hero, Shoma is a cunning but sensible Shrinking Violet. Additionally, Yuma has a vitriolic relationship with Akari, while Shoma gets along very well with Ageha due to their shared interest in Dueling.
    • He's also this to Yusaku, as green-eyed heroes in blue: Yusaku is a Jerkass Anti-Hero and a lone wolf who sees Duel Monsters as nothing more than mere weapons for him to use, while Shoma is an introverted Nice Guy who can see and communicate with Duel Monsters.
  • Country Mouse: He originally lived in the countryside of Japannote , before moving with his older sister to Tokyo at the start of the series.
  • Kid Hero: He's only 13-years-old and is the main hero of the manga.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Depending on interpretation, the spirits of the Struct World could also just be Shoma's visualisation on how he makes decks instead of being duel spirits like other series.
  • Naïve Newcomer: He recently moved to the big city in Tokyo, and is rather socially awkward despite his dueling skills.
  • Oblivious to Love: He really doesn't understand what Ageha means by "dating" and sees it as just an event for a boy and girl to hang around. Later on, he's also unaware of Tsukiko's feelings towards him after their "Duel Date". Justified as he's only 13.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: When attempting to sneak into a tournament for adults, he disguises himself by wearing a hat and fake beard. Naturally he is immediately found out.
  • Samurai Ponytail: Although he isn't a samurai, Shoma has a rather long ponytail compared to the previous Yu-tagonists.
  • Shrinking Violet: He's described to be soft-spoken and shy around people outside of his interactions with his older sister.

    Ageha Yusa

Ageha Yusa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ageha_yusa.png

Shoma's older sister. A 25-year-old woman who's a veteran player of the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game.

Her main deck is a Traptrix deck, which she used in the World Championship.
In her duel against Tsukiko she uses a Time Thief deck.

  • Anime Hair: Her hair is green with the back being jagged like a christmas tree.
  • Beware of the Nice Ones: She's usually nice and supportive, but pissing her off is not a good idea.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character:
    • To the previous female leads in the entire franchise, since she's not only a 25-year old Cool Big Sis, but also the first to have the kanji "Yu" (遊 ) in her name.
    • On a side note, Ageha serves as this to Akari as older sisters of their respective "Yu" characters. While Akari is very aggressive towards Yuma to the point of forbidding him from Dueling (mainly due to being overprotective), Ageha is nothing but very supportive towards Shoma's interest in Dueling. For bonus points, Ageha is a "Yu" character (through her surname) while Akari is not.
  • Cool Big Sis: To Shoma letting him move in with her so he can duel other people in the city since he could only play by himself at the countryside.
  • Cosplay: She cosplays as an executive of the Knights of Hanoi when attending the Jump Victory Carnival.
  • Country Mouse: She originally lived in the countryside of Japan before finding work in Tokyo.
  • Meaningful Name: Her first name means "swallowtail", fitting for someone who runs a Traptrix deck.

  • Old Maid: 25 years old, single and looking.

Four Duel Kings

    Jukyu Goriki

Jukyu Goriki

The first Duelist who Shoma is paired up against during his first visit to the Satellite Shop. The first king of the Four Duel Kings who's defeated by Shoma. Jukyu prefers to use powerful decks that centered on big ATK scores, but always includes a copy of Mist Valley Apex Avian to use its powerful negation effect.

In the Rising Rampage release event he built and used a Simorgh deck.
In the Team battle event he uses a Dragunity deck.
In the "Challenge the World Champion" eventa Lyrilusc/Tri-Brigade hybrid deck.
  • The Big Guy: He's the largest member of the Four Duel Kings, and his first on-screen deck involves using his special "God Strong Wind" combo; summoning three monsters whose ATK are 3000 and up due to his field spell, in one turn. Furthermore, the three of them have effects that would essentially cause two negations to his opponent's cards, thus giving Jukyu some defense despite having an empty hand.
  • Gag Lips: He has prominent lips compare to the rest of the other characters.
  • Red Baron: He is called "Strong Jukyu" in the Saikyo Card Battle game.
  • Signature Mon: All his decks include Mist Valley Apex Avian even though none of them focus on the Mist Valley archetype, but mesh well with the card due to focusing on Winged-Beast types or Wind Attribute monsters allowing him to easily summon it and use its negation effect.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: He's considered the weakest of the Four Duel Kings, once lost in a tournament by bricking, and has the worst track record in the Team Battle Event. Despite this, he manages to defeat Yami Kuroda in the finals, making the Structures team the overall winner of the event.

    Yami Kuroda

Yami Kuroda

Tsukiko's older twin brother with Chuunibyou tendencies. He duels Shoma over a misunderstanding of the latter's intentions for his sister. He's the second king of the Four Duel Kings who's defeated by Shoma.

In his first duel gainst Shoma he uses a Mathmech deck.
In the Team Battle event he uses a Chaos deck.
In the "Challenge the World Champion" event, he uses a Drytron deck build with cards loaned from Tsukiko.
  • Chuunibyou: Kuroda is this by default, judging by his getup and manners.
  • Cyberpunk: He runs a Mathmech deck in his Duel against Shoma.
  • Informed Attribute: For somebody who is hyped to be the strongest of the 4 duel kings, his on-screen duel record leaves a lot to be desired as he lost all the duels that we see him in.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: He's very protective of Tsukiko, as shown when he instantly challenges Shoma to a Duel for acting chummy towards her. He even went so far as putting a Tracking Device in her bag so he could know where she is.
  • Precocious Crush: He is infatuated with Ms. Guide who is at least 10 years older than he is much to her discomfort.
  • Red Baron: He is called "Dark Kuroda" in the Saikyo Card Battle game.

    Tsukiko Kuroda

Tsukiko Kuroda

Yami's younger twin sister. She finds her twin brother's protective behavior annoying and has an interest in Shoma after he defeated her brother in a duel. She's the third king of the Four Duel Kings who's defeated by Shoma. She likes to use control decks focusing on locking the opponent from using card effects.

In her duel against Shoma, she uses a Herald deck.
In the Team Battle event, she uses a Jinzo deck.
In her duel against Ageha, she uses an Amazement deck loaned from Shoma.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She doesn't like Shoma interacting with other girls.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Her default choice of clothing.
  • Gave Up Too Soon: Her reason for participating in the tournament was to duel against Shoma, but she left after winning the duel against Anna out of frustration that Shoma kept rooting for his teammate, but had she stayed she would have an exhibition match against Shoma since they both were the only duelists with a perfect winning streak.
  • Red Baron: She is called "Light Tsukiko" in the Saikyo Card Battle game.

    Saiko Tendo

Saiko Tendo

An ambitious young Duelist who duels Shoma after hearing of his victories against two of his fellow kings. He's the only king of the Four Duel Kings who defeated Shoma in a duel, and the last one to be defeated by the latter in turn. His decks are high tier decks used by competitive players and include a copy of Maxx "C" to put pressure on his opponent and increase his hand size.

In the preliminaries of the World Championship he uses a Thunder Dragon deck, which he play tested on Shoma.
In the Team Battle event, he uses an Eldlich deck.
  • Heads I Win, Tails You Lose: With Maxx "C", his opponent is either forced to stop their Special Summons prematurely out of fear for hand traps or they continue and increase his hand size, allowing him to make more combos on the next turn.
  • Punny Name: His is a pun of "Psycho".
  • Red Baron: He is called "Psychic Tendo" in the Saikyo Card Battle game.
  • Shock and Awe: Saiko's Thunder Dragon deck, which he uses to beat Shoma in their first Duel.

Satellite Shop

    Anna Des/Ms. Guide

Anna Des/Ms. Guide

An employee at the shop who works part-time as a judge in local tournaments. She visibly resembles the card Tour Guide From the Underworld.

In the exhibition duel to showcase the new Master Rules, she uses an Adamancipator deck.
In the Team Battle event, she uses a Darklord deck.
  • Fangirl: She is a massive fan of Ageha Yusa, having watched her duel in the past.
  • Pungeon Master: She tends to make death-related puns.
  • Sore Loser: When she loses a duel, she will continue requesting rematches until she wins.

    Gob Lintaro

Gob Lintaro

The manager of the shop and an old classmate of Ageha.

He uses a Goblin deck.
