Main Characters:

Ready for adventure?
Voiced by: Aidan Vissers (season 1), Ian Ho (season 2)
Xavier is the main character of the show. He's an excitable, impulsive kid who loves adventure and time-traveling. He's the leader of his group. His antennae are useful for time-traveling, and he has dials at the side of his hood to help translate foreign languages to English.
  • Aerith and Bob: Xavier's name is normal compared to his sister's.
  • Ambiguously Brown: His ethnicity is unknown. The few episodes in which his parents have been shown, it's done in such a way that we only see their legs.
  • Anime Hair: Seriously, he looks like a young Josuke.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: In "I Am Neil Armstrong", Xavier is seen making different sandwiches with weird food combinations.
  • Brother–Sister Team: With his sister Yadina.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": The X on Xavier's hoodie stands for Xavier.
  • Character Catchphrase:
    • "To the Secret MUSEUM!"
    • "I wonder who the Secret Museum will send us to meet."
    • "We're getting something!"
    • "Amazing fact:________"
  • Dreadful Musician: Xavier at first in "I Am Johann Sebastian Bach", as he plays "Hot Cross Buns" on the recorder off-key.
  • The Hero: Of the entire series.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: In "I Am Fred Rogers", Xavier worries that Brad and Yadina won't want to hang out with him if the Secret Museum is closed. Xavier feels that without the Secret Museum, he's nothing. Fortunately, Fred Rogers teaches him that he is special just the way he is.
  • Keet: He is excited over everything.
  • The Leader: Of the time travel trio.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Leaps headfirst into adventure without looking back.
  • Luminescent Blush: He blushed in "I Am Helen Keller", "I Am Madam President", and "I Am Dolores Huerta" when the girl in the marching band sneered at him.
  • Nice Guy: A friendly sort of kid.
  • Pen Pals: He has a friend who lives in Japan called Hikari, who appears in the Nikola Tesla episode. They communicate over his tablet.
  • Red/Green Contrast: His red hoodie contrast with Brad's green jacket.
  • Red Is Heroic: He wears red and is the hero of the show.
  • Renaissance Man: He's interested in art, robotics, dance, and basketball.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The Manly Man to Brad's Sensitive Guy. Xavier is bold, outspoken, and traditionally masculine.
  • Stepford Smiler: Despite his energy and enthusiasm for time travel, deep down he secretly worries that the Secret Museum is the only thing that makes him special, and that he won't have any friends without it.
  • Translator Microbes: Xavier's hoodie has a dial and antennae that translates for the group when they meet a non-English speaking historical figure.

    Yadina Riddle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yadina.png
Voiced by: Zoe Hatz
Yadina is Xavier's sister. She's eager to go on time travel missions, like her brother. She is an unstoppable force who has many talents, a strong moral compass, and is determined to become the President one day. Yadina has a stuffed turtle named Dr. Zoom, who she carries around all the time.
  • Aerith and Bob: Yadina isn't really a normal name compared to Xavier. Apparently her name Spanish and means "beautiful and loyal." She's definitely cute as a button and always there for her brother and Brad.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Her ethnicity is unknown. The few episodes in which her parents have been shown, it's done in such a way that we only see their legs.
  • Badass Adorable: Proves to be this in "I Am Madam President", when she saves Berby's life.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Cheese and grape jelly sandwiches. Despite Xavier's equally... unique sandwiches, there seems to be at least one bridge he won't cross.
  • Brother–Sister Team: With her brother, Xavier.
  • Brutal Honesty: Although Yadina is very extroverted (not a wallflower at all), she is only six-years-old. This means that she can be very honest with just about anyone, and sometimes even blunt! For example, Yadina dislikes meanness of any kind, and she will let anyone who is not being friendly to another, know exactly what she thinks of their behavior.
  • Cannot Tell a Joke: Yadina has a habit of making bad puns that Xavier and Brad don't understand.
  • Character Catchphrase:
    • "And where we'll go!"
    • "Hang on, Dr. Zoom!"
  • Cheerful Child: She is a happy-go-lucky Genki Girl. She is bright, determined, and loves playing with her Dr. Zoom. She is also the trope's image.
  • Companion Cube: Her stuffed turtle, Dr. Zoom, who she treats as a real person.
  • Crush Blush: She blushes and gushes around George Washington in "I Am George Washington". However, her favorite President is actually Abraham Lincoln.
  • The Cutie: Just look at her!
  • The Face: Yadina is the resident social expert of the time travel trio, who uses her knowledge to resolve conflicts.
  • Fangirl: Of the US Presidents, especially Abraham Lincoln. When the trio visited Lincoln, she went completely tongue-tied.
  • Genki Girl: Just like her brother, she's eager and enthusiastic about pretty much anything.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She wears her hair like this.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Yadina has a stuffed turtle named Dr. Zoom, who she loves very much.
  • Goal in Life: Her goal is to become the president of the United States. In the future, she succeeds.
  • Go-Getter Girl: Let's see; she's a star soccer player, a social expert, advocates for turtle rights and gender equality, and dreams of being president one day. Yep, she definitely fits the bill.
  • Growling Gut: This happened to Yadina twice in "I Am Neil Armstrong".
  • The Heart: She serves as the middle point between Xavier and Brad, balancing them out, and she has a strong sense of justice and compassion.
  • Hiccup Hijinks: The episode "I Am Florence Nightingale" has Yadina get hiccups on the day she plans to give a school report on cookies. Everyone then goes back in time to get help from Florence Nightingale. At the end, she then decides to do her report on hiccups, and she's cured.
  • Identical Grandson: Strongly resembles her great-great grandmother.
  • I Do Not Like Green Eggs and Ham: In "I Am Neil Armstrong", Yadina thinks she won't like a cheese and marmalade sandwich, but when she tries it, she likes it.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: In "I Am Johann Sebastian Bach", Yadina makes a pun based on Bach's name, but Brad and Xavier don't think it's funny.
  • The Leader: "I Am George Washington" is about this trope. Yadina is picked to lead the Nature Troop, but proves to be a bad leader. The kids turn to the Secret Museum for help, and meet George Washington, who shows Yadina how to be a great leader.
  • Luminescent Blush: She blushed around George Washington constantly in "I Am George Washington", and briefly blushed when in the spaceship in "I Am Madam President." She also blushed in "I Am Dolores Huerta" in the opening sequence after being too loud.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: The Masculine Girl to Brad's Feminine Boy. Highlighted in "I Am Billie Jean King", where Yadina plays T-ball while Brad does ballet.
  • My Future Self and Me: In "I Am Madam President", she meets herself in the future when she's the president of the United States.
  • Nice Girl: Polite to everyone and dislikes rude behavior.
  • Pink Means Feminine: She wears pink overalls.
  • Pungeon Master: Makes A LOT of puns.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only girl in the main cast.
  • The Social Expert: When faced with conflict, Yadina is an expert at making others understand a situation from someone else’s perspective, which ultimately requires empathy, self-awareness and self-regulation.
  • So Unfunny, It's Funny: Yadina's jokes are so corny that you can't help but snicker at them.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: A cheese and jelly sandwich.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: Yadina has a lot in common with her great-great grandmother. They both wear pink, both like turtles, both make bad jokes, and both like cheese and grape jelly sandwiches.

    Brad Meltzer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brad_xavier_riddle.png
Voiced by: Wyatt White
Rounding out Xavier's group of friends is Brad, a shy, neurotic kid with an unhealthy obsession with butterflies and comic books. He has low self-esteem and is always reluctant to go on time-travel missions, but Yadina and Xavier encourage him to come along regardless.
  • All There in the Manual: According to the website, his last name is "Meltzer".
  • Author Avatar: He's one for Brad Meltzer.
  • Butt-Monkey: He always gets dizzy while time traveling, and doesn't want to go back in time yet is always dragged along. Not to mention that in "I Am Susan B. Anthony", Xavier and Yadina wouldn't let him have a say on what should go where in the Secret Museum, and in "I Am Alexander Graham Bell", he loses his voice and Xavier and Yadina do all the talking for him instead of listening to him.
  • Character Catchphrase:
    • "And when?"
    • "It's happening!"
  • Crush Blush: Blushes and gets nervous around Catherine the Great in "I Am Catherine the Great".
  • The Cutie: Especially with his little cape.
  • The Drag-Along: He always protests against going on time travel missions, but is always made to come along anyways.
  • Expy:
    • Of Charlie Brown, with both of them being unlucky, dorky kids. He also has a nearly scalp-short buzzcut - without his glasses he'd be an almost dead-ringer for him.
    • Of Sean Rafferty, with both of them being the token neurotic nerd in their respective groups. They even have a similar color scheme.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Despite all of his accomplishments, Brad has a rather low opinion of himself.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Brad loves butterflies and ballet, but he was insecure about the latter in "I Am Billie Jean King".
  • Jewish and Nerdy: He's Jewish, as revealed in "I Am Tomioka Tessai"note , and is a huge nerd due to his love of comics, knowledge of butterflies, and good math skills (judging by how he always accurately calculates how many years back in time the kids will go).
  • The Lancer: To Xavier. Brad is the opposite of Xavier; whereas Xavier is extroverted and excitable, Brad is introverted and cautious.
  • Luminescent Blush: So far, he has blushed in the following episodes: "I Am Marie Curie", "I Am Winston Churchill", "I Am Catherine the Great", "We Are the Bronte Sisters", "I Am Zora Neale Hurston", "I Am Eleanor Roosevelt", "I Am Rachel Carson", "I Am Cesar Chavez", "I Am Sacagawea", "I Am Mary Anning", "I Am Harriet Tubman", "I Am Ella Fitzgerald", and "I Am Albert Einstein".
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: The Feminine Boy to Yadina's Masculine Girl. Highlighted in "I Am Billie Jean King", where Yadina plays T-ball while Brad does ballet.
  • Nerd Glasses: Wears these type of glasses.
  • Nervous Wreck: Brad is always nervous over everything, especially when it comes to time-travel.
  • Nice Jewish Boy: A really sweet kid and is Jewish to boot (see the note on Jewish and Nerdy for more details).
  • No Social Skills: As shown in "I Am Catherine the Great", he is not very good at making new friends, but luckily, Catherine the Great showed him how.
  • Plot Allergy: Is allergic to cats and flowers.
  • Pretty Butterflies: Thinks this of butterflies. In "I Am Marie Curie", as he tells Marie about how much he loves butterflies, he imagines a swarm of butterflies flying around him.
  • Red/Green Contrast: His green jacket contrasts with his red cape and Xavier's red hoodie.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: In "I Am Billie Jean King", he's ashamed about liking ballet because everyone thinks ballet is only for girls. Billie Jean King, a trailblazer in women's sports, teaches him that boys and girls can do the same things.
  • Security Blanket: His cape acts as one for him. In fact, it was his blanket when he was a baby, as revealed in "I Am Zora Neale Hurston".
  • Sequential Artist: He likes to draw comics.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The Sensitive Guy to Xavier's Manly Man. Brad is very shy and loves traditionally feminine things like ballet and butterflies.
  • Shrinking Violet: Brad is pretty shy, and it's implied that he didn't have any friends prior to meeting Xavier and Yadina.
  • Start My Own: In "I Am Marie Curie", when Brad gets rejected from the butterfly club, he starts his own butterfly club for kids under 10 years old.
  • Superheroes Wear Capes: He likes to pretend to be a superhero, and wears a cape.
  • Tears of Joy: Brad cries these tears after Xavier gives an amazing performance at the school talent show in "I Am Johann Sebastian Bach".
  • This Loser Is You: Sure, he's a neurotic nerdy Butt-Monkey, but he's also relatable to many viewers, and has become the most popular character on the show as a result.
  • Token White: The only white character in the main cast.
  • Twitchy Eye: His eye twitches when he learns the three are going back in time two thousand years to meet Cleopatra
  • Yiddish as a Second Language: Owing to his Jewish heritage, he often says "Oy vey" when he's frustrated, exhausted, or worried.

Other Characters:

     Berby
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/berby.png
Voiced by: None
A time-travelling curator robot that's friends with the kids and takes them on adventures through the Secret Museum
  • Ambiguous Gender: We didn't know until I Am Madame President that she's a girl.
  • Animal Sweet on Object: Well, robot in this case. Berby seems quite taken with Dr. Zoom. It's not known what Dr. Zoom's thoughts are on the matter, though.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Once, her name was misspelled as "Burby"
  • Intelligible Unintelligible: She doesn't talk, except for making robot beeps and warbles (which sound like words at different points) but the kids do understand what she's saying.
  • Ridiculously Human Robots: For a robot that's basically a floating eye with antenna, she's very expressive and she even sleeps.
  • Wing Ding Eyes: When she's dizzy, her eye gets a swirl.

     Dr. Zoom
Yadina's stuffed turtle who goes with her everywhere
  • Ambiguous Gender: Dr. Zoom is referred to with feminine terms most of the time, but sometimes she wears a mustache, and at least one 9 Story blogpost used masculine terms on her.
  • Companion Cube: To Yadina, of course, and she goes with Yadina, everywhere. She seems to be this to Berby, too, as seen in the "Best Friend" interstitials.
  • Hidden Depths: She may be secretly alive. A Freeze-Frame Bonus in the Mary Shelley episode shows Dr. Zoom getting wide eyes.

    SPOILER CHARACTER

Voiced by: Teresa Pavlinek
Xavier and Yadina's great great grandmother appears in Xavier Riddle and the Secret Movie: I Am Madam President.

She co-founded the Museum atop The Secret Museum, and can appear as a hologram projected by Berby despite having passed away. Due to the nature of this character, all spoilers are unmarked.
