    Wayne

Wayne McCullough Jr.

Played by: Mark McKenna

A 16 year-old Dirty Harry with a heart of gold.

Tropes:

  • Afraid of Doctors: He's terrified of hospitals, to the point where he outright refuses to go to one after being beaten to the point where he can barely stand.

  • Ancestral Weapon: Wayne's signature ball-peen hammer used to belong to his father.
  • Anti-Hero: He usually solves problems by violence and is extremely pragmatic.
  • Bad Liar: He's really not very good at deceiving people, and more often than not will favour Brutal Honesty.
  • Batter Up!: One of his go-to weapons.
  • Bound and Gagged: Happens to him in Episode 9.
  • Bully Hunter: Wayne absolutely cannot stand to see anyone bullied, mistreated or taken advantage of by someone more powerful and insists on doing whatever he can to stop it.
  • Character Name Alias: When Del tells him to come up with a fake name the best he can manage is "John... Wayne."
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Wayne is perpetually compelled to intervene whenever he perceives an injustice. Deconstructed in that it makes him unstable.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Wayne has no qualms about utilizing foreign objects or resorting to biting in order to win a fight.
  • Cool Car: Wayne's primary goal is to retrieve his father's '79 Trans-Am from the asshole who his mother ran off with.
  • Cool Bike: After a fashion. Wayne's beat up old two stroke road bike may not be the hottest set of wheels, but it still manages to be pretty cool.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He doesn’t look like much, but he’s good at improvising weapons and coming out on top.
  • Deadpan Snarker: His sense of humor is pretty dry.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Says that coffee is the worst thing he's ever drank.
  • The Dreaded: Most of the other kids in his hometown are understandably terrified of him. The sight of him heading their way is often met with cries of "Oh, shit! It's Wayne!"
  • Eating the Eye Candy: To be expected from a 16-year-old boy. In the first episode, his dad's nurse catches him staring at her breasts and he immediately admits to doing so and apologizes to her.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's very smart, being a skilled planner and improviser, and a truly vicious combatant who is very skilled at finding whatever advantages he can in a fight.
  • Impaled Palm: When challenged to a game of Five-Finger Fillet by a golf course groundskeeper's vegan Satanist girlfriend, Wayne intentionally stabs himself through the hand in an interesting interpretation of doing what she did "faster and better."
  • Improvised Weapon: His Signature Move. Pick up the closest thing and pummel someone. From trumpets to desk drawers to garden gnomes.
  • Indy Ploy: Doesn’t always have a plan, but is usually capable of improvising his way through.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Wayne definitely isn’t the nicest kid to be around but he stays sticking up for the helpless and is capable of immense kindness.
  • Made of Iron: He’s not the strongest, but has a VERY high pain tolerance.
    • Dented Iron: A couple of times it catches up to him and he's put out of commission with debilitating injuries.
  • Messy Hair: His hair is almost always unkempt.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Wayne is a lot stronger than you'd expect a skinny, underfed teenager to be.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Inverted. He absolutely hates coffee, describing it as the worst thing he's ever tasted.
  • Phrase Catcher: "What the fuck, Wayne!?"
  • The Quiet One: He’s quiet unless spoken to or fighting.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Wayne has a very strong moral code, and he won't let any authority figure stand in his way while he's doing what he believes is right.
    Del

Del Luccetti

Played by: Ciara Bravo
A girl Wayne meets when she shows up on his doorstep selling cookies. When invited to accompany Wayne to Florida, she jumps at the chance to escape her unhappy home life.

Tropes:

  • Chainsaw Good: She taught herself how to use a chainsaw in order to cut firewood. The skill comes in handy when she has to rescue Wayne from Lee Murray and his vegan Satanist girlfriend.
  • Embarrassing First Name: She is quick to tell Wayne that her name isn't short for anything. Turns out her given name is actually Delilah.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Like Wayne, she's not the nicest person but she does have a kinder side and will go out of her way to help people, even total strangers, if they are being mistreated.
  • Little Miss Badass: Del may be a cute, tiny teenage girl, but she will wreck you if your cross her.
  • Missing Mom: Her mother died recently, leaving her to be raised by her overbearing father.
  • Parental Neglect: Her father doesn’t seem very concerned about her upbringing before or after she runs away.
  • Shovel Strike: When Wayne visits her house, she invites him to go out to the back yard and cut snakes in half with shovels.
  • Sticky Fingers: She has a bad habit of stealing just about anything she can. It's implied this behaviour began not long after her mother's death.
    Orlando

Orlando Hikes

Played by: Joshua J. Williams
Wayne's best friend from highschool who ends up accompanying Principal Cole in pursuit of Wayne and Del.

Tropes:

  • Bavarian Fire Drill: Manages to get the bouncer to let him into a Strip Club by claiming to be "Crystal's kid." When Principal Cole asks him how he knew there was a Crystal working there, he says "There's always a Crystal."
  • Freaky Is Cool: He flirts with a girl who has to wear a halo brace, remarking that she's like a "super fine cyborg."
  • High-School Hustler: He's very good at talking his way into and out of things when the situation calls for it.

    Reggie

Reggie

Played by: Francesco Antonio
Wayne’s stepbrother.

Tropes:

    Principal Cole

Principal Tom Cole

Played by: Mike O'Malley
Wayne, Del, and Orlando's beleaguered high school principal.

Tropes:

  • Apathetic Teacher: Subverted. He is on the verge of not caring about his students and even admits to hating some of them. However, he still tries to help Wayne and goes after him when Wayne runs away to Florida.

    Sgt. Geller

Sergeant Stephen Geller

Played by: Stephen Kearin

Tropes:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: He's a big believer in second chances, and treats many with respect who certainly do not act worthy of it. However, he is very tatted up underneath those Tommy Bahama shirts, and if you give him a reason he'll be forced to demonstrate the fighting skills he picked up in a Thailand prison.
  • Mistaken for Masturbating: Officer Jay walks in on him checking himself for testicular cancer and immediately gets the wrong idea.
  • Parental Substitute: By the end of the first season, he's arguably become one to Wayne.
  • Police Are Useless: The one notable subversion in the show. Hey may seem fairly ineffectual at first, but... well, a lot of his trope entries are spoilered for a reason.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He doesn't want to hurt Wayne and seems to sincerely like him and prefers to solve situations without violence if he can.
  • Reformed Criminal: He did hard time in a Thailand prison in the past.
  • Tattooed Crook: He's covered in prison tattoos he received during his incarceration in a Thai prison.

    Bobby

Bobby Luccetti

Played by: Dean Winters

Del's father.

Tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: Mistreats all of his kids, especially the twins.
  • Nasal Trauma: Wayne bites off a chuck of his nose in the first episode.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: As shown in flashbacks, his wife's death was likely the catalyst which made him increasingly violent and cruel.

    Carl & Teddy

Carl & Teddy Luccetti

Played by: Jon & Jamie Champagne

Del's twin older brothers.

Tropes:

    Calvin Clay

Calvin Clay

Played by: Kirk Ward

Reggie's father and Wayne's Mom's new husband.
