Protagonists

    Detective Judith "Judy" Laverne Hopps
The perky, driven, ingenious half of Team WildeHopps.
  • The Ace: Both Judy and Nick have gain such a reputation that they are seen as this by just about everyone. Even the villains panic somewhat when they find out just who is on their tail.
  • Badass Adorable: Well, she's Judy Hopps.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Referred to as 'flashes', when an offhand statement or thought triggers a deductive leap.
  • Everyone Can See It: With Nick, to the point that WildeHopps is a city-wide title for the two.
  • Famed In-Story: Not only for her busting of the Bellwether Case, but five other frequently mentioned cases solved by her and Nick over the past year and a half.
  • Logical Weakness: Her first fight with Finn (a ferret), does not go well. As stated, she was inexperienced with ferret perps and her next fight with him is much more in her favor.

    Detective Nicholas "Nick" Piberius Wilde
The grounded, canny, streetwise half of Team WildeHopps.
  • The Ace: A less overt example than Judy, but it's clear to everyone that Nick's natural deductive talents, when paired with his connections and street smarts, makes him a truly gifted detective.
  • Con Artist: despite being out of the game for over a year, Nick can still pull one over on people as easy as breathing.

    Richard "Dick-dick" Richardson
A Dik-dik who decided to try to do the right thing.
  • Ambiguously Evil: He's an amoral, acerbic career criminal, but even he balks at poisoning an entire city.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Loses a hand and an eye to Finn.
  • Body Horror: See above. He ended up with more bandage than skin.
  • Evil Former Friend: inverted: He actually turned away from a life of crime.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Starts one before the story and finishes by the end.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: him, Finnegan, Elim, and Grigori are called "The Four Faces of Death" by Mr. Big in a flashback.
  • Punny Name: Is, himself, a Dik-Dik, his name is Richard Richardson AKA Dick-Dick.
  • The Cracker: Is an underworld-famous hacker and cracker.
  • Token Evil Teammate: To WildeHopps early on as an informant, later, to the ZPD as a whole, when he joins their cyber warfare unit as part of his witness protection.
  • Villain Respect: Genuinely admired Judy and Nick (particularly Judy) even before his face turn solidified. It's why he trusts her right away.

Antagonists

    Elim Boakye
An arrogant, greedy, brindled gnu. The Smart Guy and de facto leader of The Trio, he fancies himself something of an Evil Genius and almost has a stake in that claim.
  • The Alcoholic: an understated and extremely functional one, but many of his scenes involve him drinking a beer.
  • Better Living Through Evil: What he hopes to accomplish by destroying Zootopia and claiming his payment.
  • Boomerang Bigot: Initially dismisses the notion that Judy was the one who figured out their plot on the basis that she's a Prey animal. He himself is a brindled gnu, a herbivore.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Despite essentially being a terrorist scheming to destroy a major metropolitan area, even Elim is shaken by Finn getting "creative" with a victim.
  • Evil Genius: Despite having a rabbit-sized hole in his world view, Elim is pretty much 100% correct on all his predictions, accurately anticipating Richie's attempt to contact WildeHopps and how the city would rush to wrap up the case.
  • Greed: His primary motivation for doing what he does is basically to have enough money to "do whatever."
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Enjoys a cold beer, but values Tusker Lager above all others.
  • Villainous Friendship: With his teammates, to an almost heartwarming degree. To the point that he wants to be neighbors when they retire with their reward.

    Grigori Yevgenyevich
An enormous, monstrously strong Eurasian lynx. The Big Guy and Gadgeteer Genius for The Trio, he rarely smiles and is a profoundly savage fighter. Despite this, he cares deeply for his friends and family.
  • Better Living Through Evil: His sole motivation to give his mother and little sisters the life he thinks they deserve, and if millions must die for them to get it, so be it.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He became a criminal early in life to pay for his younger sisters to have 'pretty things'.
  • The Big Guy: Noted at several points as being noticeably huge for a lynx and almost freakishly strong.
  • Body Horror: Due to his violent crimes in his home country, he had his fangs and claws removed. Later, he has fake fangs put in.
  • The Brute: A massively strong, violent cat with a penchant for breaking people until they die.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: He may be violent, stoic, and brutal, but there is nothing in the world Grisha will not do for his beloved Mama and little sisters.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Grigori will do ANYTHING for his Mama, up to and including destroying a massive city.
  • Husky Russkie: A big, strong, stoic lynx who speaks with a deep, heavy accent.
  • Super-Strength: Can press 200lb 'as often as he has to' and likes to kill his victim with his bare hands. Said victims include a polar bear and a water buffalo.
  • Villainous Friendship: With his teammates, although more conventionally with Elim. His relationship with Finn is somewhat more contentious.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Has no problems throwing around and beating a recalcitrant female prisoner.

    Finnegan McNulty
Totally bug-rut insane. An adorable sable ferret with an easy smile and upbeat attitude. He's also a brutally violent Torture Technician who loves to chew people to death. Serves as the infiltrator, interrogator, and explosives expert for the Trio.
  • Affably Evil: Always smiling, bubbly, and positive in demeanor. He almost never drops this act, even acting friendly towards his victims.
  • Badass Adorable: As a ferret, he's barely larger than Judy. One of his victims was a bull elephant.
  • Better Living Through Evil: Averted. Unlike his teammates, Finnegan is motivated by a love of bloodshed. When asked what he's going to do with his massive reward, he simply replies "Build a chair." To clarify, he'd build a chair out of his money and watch Zootopia die from a hilltop. When asked what he wants to do after that, Finn shrugs and decides to open a restaurant.
  • Bloodlust: Claims that the taste of blood makes him see stars.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Doesn't seem to regard his own actions as wrong or deviant, and also seems to interpret Judy's dogged pursuit of him as some bizarre form of courtship.
  • Catchphrase: "Hi." Say your prayers.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: But he's actually very hot-blooded about it.
  • Cute and Psycho: Described as being as cute and peppy as any ferret ought to be. Is also a rutting lunatic.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He's legitimately disgusted and angered when Elim jokingly suggests that he was going to try to rape Judy Hopps when he had her in a chokehold from behind. (As opposed to severing her spine with his teeth, as he was planning on doing before he was interrupted.)
  • Evil Laugh: Eh-heh-heh-heh-heh!
  • Faux Affably Evil: As soon as Judy starts no-selling his baffling antics, he starts to get frustrated and a lot less friendly.
  • Fighting Irish: Mentioned as having a 'brogue' and can pummel/shred animals ten times his size. Word of God says that he sounds like Colin Farrell.
  • Hidden Depths: Apparently a very good cook, and also a registered nurse.
  • Slasher Smile: Is stated to be different from his default expression, which itself is a smile, and is so wrong that it turns his face into something horrible.
  • The Sociopath: A giggling, grinning, bloodthirsty monster.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Of the foursome, Finn was closest to Richie. His hurt feelings of betrayal are why he's so enthusiastic about torturing the dik-dik when he gets the chance.
  • Write Who You Know: According to the author of the fic, Finnegan was based off a ferret that they used to petsit that did "unspeakable things" to a feeder mouse.
