A religious state on a large island in the western part of the continent, it commands strong faith-based national and military power under the Pontiff of the Palevian Orthodoxy. Many inhabitants are part of a winged population known as Angels.

    In General
  • Absurdly Long Stairway: Albion towns tend to have long and winding system of stairs due to them being build on the sides of mountains. It's likely they are there only as a convenience for humans, as Winged folks don't need them.
  • Crystal Dragon Jesus: The Palevian Orthodoxy is filled with Christian imagery and terms. They are ruled by a Pontifexnote , make ample use of crosses. The Pontifex wears a mitre almost identical in design to that worn by the pope. The Pontifex operates out of a Basilica, much like how the pope operates out of St-Peters Basilica. The pontifex and the Featherstaves make use of a crozier (and a Papal crozier is an item that can be dropped as loot).
  • Ethereal Choir: The overworld theme of Albion has choir accompanying the music, fitting for a land of the church.
  • Fantastic Racism: Some of the Angels have a very low view of most humans, even members of the orthodoxy (the big exception being the Pontifex, who they outright revere). This is bitterly ironic considering Angels are actually descended from humans who were experimented on by the Zenoiran Empire to give them divine powers, but their only distinguishing feature were their wings which made the Zenoirans consider them a failure. The only success was a human who became the first Pontifex.
  • I Am Very British: Residents who live in Albion speak in a very noticeably posh British accent. The exceptions to this are the mercenaries you hire there.
  • The Theocracy: Albion is ruled by the Pontifex of the Palevian Orthodoxy.

Orthodoxy Leadership

    Pontifex Arant (Spoilers Unmarked)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arrantuo.png
Pontifex of the Palevian Orthodoxy and ruler of the Holy Kingdom of Albion. He long resisted Zenoira's advances, yet after suffering countless casualties and bitter betrayals, ultimately chose to surrender. He retains his position as pontifex to this very day.
  • Dead All Along: Galerius claims early in the game he's dead. Yet once in Albion everyone seems convinced he's alive. The truth is he's dead and Baltro had his body raised as an undead to act as a figurehead.
  • Spanner in the Works: His death was a huge setback to Galerius’ plans, as he was needed alive to break the final seal on the shrine in Cornia; in turn, it was the inciting incident for the first arc as Scarlett, as the Sole Survivor of the Albion royal bloodline, was needed to break it in her father’s place. If not for that, Galerius would have nearly achieved his goals years before the game starts.

    Sanatio
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sanatio.png
Voiced By: Mutsumi Tamura (JP), Damien Haas (EN)
Class: Featherstaff
The angel in charge of the Pontifex' Heavenswing Knights.
  • Arc Villain: His conspiracy to hide the Pontifex' death makes him align with Baltro and allow Zenorian occupation of Albion, leading in turn to the deaths and kidnaping of innocents in order to coerce its lords into fighting the Liberation. He is the final enemy fought before the country is free, at which point he learns the truth about where Scarlett is and who killed the Pontifex, and realises all the sins he committed in the name of salvation.
  • Child Prodigy: He was scouted for his position as a child, where his potential was immediately spotted.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: Sanatio engages in a huge conspiracy to hide the pontifex' death because they lack a successor, not knowing where Scarlett is. And the Pontifex' last order was to not talk about Scarlett. Nigel, who works with him, is the one who hid her away. He points out that had Sanatio mentioned the Pontifex died, Nigel would've been happy to just tell him where Scarlett was all along.
  • Heel Realisation: Has it upon discovering where Scarlett has been all along and the reason the Pontifex died.
  • Must Make Amends: After learning that Nigel was in the right and he had been fighting against Scarlett by siding with Zenoria, he lets Nigel take temporary command of the Orthodoxy while he joins the Liberation in atonement.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: His devotion to the Pontifex is absolute, to the point that he willingly lets Baltro raise the man's body as an undead puppet and excommunicates Nigel when he finds out the truth, threatening to frame him for the Pontifex' murder if he tries to reveal it, just to uphold his final request of keeping Scarlett a secret without causing the Orthodoxy to fall apart without a hereditary heir.
  • Rank Up: After the victory over Zenoira, Scarlett abdicates her birthright, leading to Sanatio becoming the new Pontifex.
  • Walking Spoiler: He first presents himself as just the voice of the Pontifex while he is ill, before the Pontifex' current state is revealed.

Heavenswings Knights

    Ochlys
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ochlys.png
Voiced By: Ikumi Hasegawa (JP), Rachelle Heger (EN)
Class: Feathersword
An angel of the Palevian Orthodoxy and its Heavenswing Knights, she seeks divine shards under orders from the pontifex. Others often treat her with cold deference, making her value her true friendships all the more.
  • Disc-One Nuke: Ochlys can be unlocked fairly early in the game if you are diligent about collecting divine shards, and especially if you execute Mandrin. She's also a tier two class like all non-humans thus has more AP, PP and better stats than your early soldiers whom you likely can't promote by the time you get her. You won't see other Featherswords or angel units until nearly the end of the game.
  • Hates Their Parent: In her first rapport with Alain, she tells him that her parents were more than displeased over her making friends with Sharon, a human—to get away from their bigotry was why she took up work for the Orthodoxy in the first place, their slander of Sharon being the tipping point for her complete disownment of them.
  • Jack of All Stats: Her Feathersword class is an all-rounder, featuring excellent speed, decent offense, and decent defense (thanks to her offensive moves giving her defensive buffs). Being a flyer she also has great mobility. She also starts with more AP due to being a tier two class unlocked well before the player gets access to promotions. The trade-off is that outside of her speed, she doesn't excel at anything else, so she can struggle to keep up as the rest of your units level.
  • Knight Templar: Ochlys demands the bandits be handed over for execution despite their claims that they were only looting the church and taking hostages to pay for medical supplies.
  • Pseudo-Romantic Friendship: Her friendship with Sharon is one, with their final Rapport having them reaffirm their friendship for each other while Sharon is massaging Ochlys's wings and Ochlys is using Sharon as a Lap Pillow.
  • Shield Bash: One of her attacks is Shield Smite, which damages the enemy and boosts her defense.
  • Signature Headgear: One of her support conversations with Sharon reveals Sharon would often make her a flower crown to accentuate her beauty.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: If Alain recruits Mandrin. Their first rapport conversation has Ochlys threatening to kill Mandrin and give a cover story about his death, showing she hasn't forgiven him for taking Sharon hostage that time. She makes it clear that even though Mandrin has gotten Alain's trust, he'll never get hers.
  • Tsundere: For Alain in their rapports together and maiden rite scene.
  • Winged Humanoid: Ochlys points out that even though she is revered as a divine messenger, she is mortal just like any other human. In game terms, if a unit is led by her, it is able to fly over natural barriers like mountains and rivers.

    Umerus
Voiced By: Manaka Iwami (JP), Xanthe Huynh (EN)
Class: Feathersword
An Angel of the Palevian Orthodoxy and another childhood friend of Scarlett.
  • Bait the Dog: She’s introduced seemingly stumbling into Scarlett by happenstance, and uses their past to lure her into a trap. Not that she’s happy about it…
  • Forced into Evil: Zenorian troops kidnap Umerus's younger brother to blackmail her into fighting against the Liberation, even against Scarlett.
  • Optional Boss: If the party kills Hodel first, Scarlett can talk her into surrendering without having to fight her at all; she survives either way, but her unit can also be downed before Hodel’s is.
  • Optional Party Member: Scarlett has to talk with her, either during her sidequest if the Zenorian commander that has her brother is defeated first or after the battle if Umerus is defeated first, for her to ask forgiveness and be allowed into the Liberation army.

    Fodoquia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fed_2.png
Voiced By: Kentarō Itō (JP), Brook Chalmers (EN)
Class: Feathershield
The lord of the Holy city of Peyston.
  • Beef Gate: To reach the heart of Albion and free the country, the Liberation must claim Peyston first; Fodoquia has the city highly fortified and is himself quite durable.
  • The Chains of Commanding: As he attests, his people were originally supportive of his stance against Zenoira; however, after a year of being besieged, their weariness turned to anger at their leader for (in their minds) forcing them to mount a ceaseless defence against an onslaught, and they revolted against him while accepting Zenoira’s demands… even killing his son in order to prove their loyalty. Even then, after being forced to bend to the terms offered, he’s duty-bound to protecting his people.
  • Death of a Child: When he held against Zenoira's siege, his own subjects kidnapped and murdered his son to appease the invader. Zeinora in turn let him rule as their proxy once he bent the knee.
  • Death Seeker: Given what he’s endured, the only reason he fights is out of obligation to his people (this after they committed the ultimate betrayal); he’ll be talked out of it if Scarlett heals him, but if left to die he’s relieved to be freed of the burden.
  • Large Ham: In a cast full of bombastic personalities and vocal performances, Fodoquia manages to out ham all of them with booming proclamations.
    "The HEAVENS. BECKON."
  • Optional Party Member: After fighting him to reclaim Peyston, Alain can choose whether to let him die from his wounds and be Together in Death with his son, or have Scarlett heal him so he can join the Liberation and fight for the world his son would have wanted.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: His son was murdered by his own subjects to avoid Zenoira's wrath.
  • Tragic Villain: Given the circumstances that led to his opposition, he’s one of the game’s saddest examples.

Knights of the Sacred Heart

    Nigel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nigel_8.png
Voiced By: Takayuki Ishii (JP), Chris Hackney (EN)
Class: Dark Marquess (Sword)
A reverend-knight of the Palevian Orthodoxy. He used to be one of the Pontifex' most trusted soldiers, as he was the one who smuggled Scarlett away to Palevia as a child. But he now has doubts about the Pontifex' current wellbeing as he's being blocked from seeing him.
  • 11th-Hour Ranger: He arrives as reinforcement and joins the Liberation Army in the 2nd to last mission, "Unicorn Overlord".
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Despite his loyalty to the Orthodoxy, Nigel is uncomfortable with being effectively a tool of Zenoria while the Pontifex is no where to provide guidance to everyone. He attempts to stay loyal despite that, but becomes too conflicted to ignore the issue once Scarlett returns and mentions hearing the Pontifex is dead to him. He eventually turns to the Liberation Army after learning the truth and being branded a heretic for doing so.
  • Church Militant: Is loyal to the church, and the Pontifex, above all else. Upon learning that Arant is indeed long-dead, he specifically declares that he’s loyal to Scarlett as the rightful successor; he’s willing to heed Alain as commander specifically because she vouches for him.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Despite his rather spiky and dark attire, Nigel is nothing but honorable and dutiful.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: He briefly aids the Liberation army after being branded a heretic by Sanatio, helping retake the Basilica (and thus the country) in "The Holy March".
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Played for Drama, and it goes both ways; on the orders of Pontifex Arant, Nigel smuggled Scarlett to Palevia to both protect her and for a mission her father entrusted to her, and was ordered to keep this a secret. When Arant died however, Sanatio grew fearful and paranoid because his only heir was missing; rather than confide this to Nigel (who would have reassured him had he known), he accepted Baltro’s “help” in raising the Pontifex as an undead figurehead. After helping reclaim the Basilica, Nigel brings Scarlett to Sanatio while pointing out they Couldve Avoided This Whole Plot if he’d been trusted with this vital information.
  • Noble Top Enforcer: He’s the highest-ranked Knight of the Sacred Heart and was given the Dark Marquess armour of Zenoira when Albion bent the knee to them, but he’s a steadfastly honourable man with misgivings about his orders.
  • Playing with Fire: His Dark Marquess class lets him cast a fire spell in battle.

    Jerome
Voiced By: Yutaka Aoyama (JP), Marl Atherlay (EN)
Class: Great Knight
The lord of Largion that enjoys baking. While wanting to rebel against Zenoira, he does not want to risk the lives of his citizens by doing so, and fights the Liberation when they arrive.
  • Anti-Villain: He wouldn’t be an enemy at all if his citizens’ lives weren’t threatened.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Spare him at Lotti’s request and he’ll gladly join the Liberation Army.
  • Establishing Character Moment: His introduction is his subordinate, Lotti barging in while he’s baking, and he exclaims in frustration as the shock causes him to ruin the concoction by adding too much sugar.
  • Food as Characterization: His love of baking highlights his delicate and careful approach in leading his people.
  • Forced into Evil: His main subordinate suggests they defect the moment the Liberation is seen near their town, but Jerome points out to her that Zenoirans are currently patrolling in the area and would attack innocents if they tried to openly rebel.
  • Modest Royalty: Although he’s of high birth in Albion, he resides in a regular house rather than a manse of any kind, speaks to his vassals like equals, and dedicates his free time to baking various goods.
  • Nice to the Waiter: Jerome cares so much for his people, that when Zenoira reached Largion he immediately rode out to negotiate a surrender on the condition they be left unharmed.
  • Optional Party Member: You can choose to execute him instead of recruit him after his battle.

    Lotti
Class: Soldier
A Knight of the Sacred Heart in service to Lord Jerome, who informs him of the Liberation Army’s approach.
  • Almighty Janitor: Gameplay-wise, as she’s an unpromoted Soldier who nonetheless fights in Jerome’s unit. She’s also tasked with watching over Largion after it’s liberated.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: She fights at her lord’s side and vouches for his good character because he put his people’s safety above any noble pride.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Played for Laughs; she busts into Jerome’s home right when he’s adding sugar, causing him to pour far too much into his baking mix and ruining it to his chagrin.
  • Trapped in Villainy: She chafes under Zenoira’s occupation of her town, and is quick to suggest siding with the Liberation as she knows Lord Jerome feels the same.
  • Undying Loyalty: Serves Jerome without discontent due to his considerateness towards his people.

Others

    Raenys
Voiced By: Yumi Hara (JP), Bryarly (EN)
Class: Featherbow
An Angel of the Palevian Orthodoxy and Scarlett's former lady-in-waiting and friend.

    Kyros
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kyrosuo.png
The preteen younger brother of Umerus.
  • Distressed Dude: He’s held captive in the dungeon of Hodel’s stronghold to keep his sister compliant.
  • Flat Character: Only appears to provide Umerus with a feasible motive to betray Scarlett; he’s only seen on the overworld map and so lacks a voice actor.
