    Federal Republic of Nigeria
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nigeria_flag.png
Official Name: Federal Republic of Nigeria
Ruling Party: Military Regime - Mainline
Ideology: Military Governancenote

  • Foil: Nigeria serves as the complete opposite of Biafra. Nigeria is a de facto autocracy under an oppressive military junta, and the country is mentioned to have a culture of violence with racial attacks and vigilante killings being relatively common. Biafra on the other hand is a stable multi-party democracy that has prospered well into the modern age, and is now the home of many artists, musicians and poets who have defined Biafra as at the forefront of artistic expression in Africa.
  • People's Republic of Tyranny: As Biafra points out, the "Federal Republic" of Nigeria is an oppressive military dictatorship.
  • Shocking Defeat Legacy: It's mentioned multiple times that Nigeria has a made a high-stakes gamble trying to conquer Biafra for a fifth time, and it shows. Nigeria getting defeated by Biafra usually results in the country's situation changing drastically, often for the worse.
    • Biafra managing to successfully resist the Nigerians in the Fifth Biafran War and then subjecting the country to another humiliating peace treaty causes the military government to be overthrown, replaced with a democratic government.
    • Nnamdi Kanu's revolt managing to overthrow Nigeria's government in Abuja results in the whole country collapsing into a violent mess of warlord states, with no end to the violence in sight.
  • Won the War, Lost the Peace: Even if Nigeria manages to defeat Biafra, they will quickly find that the spirit of the Biafran people cannot be broken so easily. Even concentrated efforts to stop fleeing intellectuals and politicians, summary executions of "traitors" and other measures to destroy Biafra's identity are shown to be ineffective in the face of a vengeful people, with Nnamdi Kanu's revolt ultimately spelling the end for the Eastern Military Region.

Mohammed Babagana Monguno

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/monguno.jpg
Role: Head of State
Party: Military Regime - Mainline
Ideology: Military Governancenote

  • The Generic Guy: Monguno is barely any different from the rest of the generals in Nigeria's military clique and is quickly replaced by another nondescript general if he fails to conquer Biafra.

Land of Cassava and Honey Update

Ibrahim Babangida

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ibrahim_babangida.png
Role: Head of State

    Republic of Biafra
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/biafra_flag.png
Flag of Hebrew Republic of Biafra
Official Name: Republic of Biafra, Eastern Military Region (Nigerian victory), All-Biafran United Defense Committee (Nnamdi Kanu Revolt), Hebrew Republic of Biafra (Kanu victory)
Ruling Party: All-Progressives Grand Alliance
Ideology: Social Paternalismnote
In 1967, ethnic tensions between the Igbo and Yoruba peoples resulted in the southeast of Nigeria seceding to form the Republic of Biafra. Against all odds, the Biafrans managed to score an incredible victory against Nigeria and secured their independence. Despite subsequent invasions by Nigeria, the Republic of Biafra in 2021 is a stable democracy with a good economy. But with another invasion of Biafra on the horizon, who is to say that it will last?
  • Choosing Neutrality: Biafra can choose to remain neutral in the revived Anglophone Crisis, which will frustrate Ambazonia but protect the interests of Biafran investors.
  • Determinator: The Biafrans are a lot of things, but quitter is not one of them. They've endured four different invasions by the Nigerians, and are on track to repelling one more. Even if Nigeria manages to defeat the Republic Of Biafra on its fifth try, a massive Biafran revolt will occur that throws Nigeria into chaos.
  • Founder of the Kingdom: Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu is rightfully seen as the founding father of Biafra, beloved throughout the country for fighting against the oppressive Nigerians and winning Biafra its freedom. The government can even name Biafra's new capital city "Ojukwuville" in remembrance to him.
  • Graceful Loser: If the APGA loses in the snap election, they will concede their loss to the Labor-NIP coalition and state that Biafra can only remain democratic with a peaceful transition of power.
  • Historical Badass Upgrade: Biafra not only secured its independence against all odds, but managed to repel three more invasions by Nigeria. By the time 2021 rolls around, they are fully capable of humiliating Nigeria once again.
  • La Résistance: Biafra being finally conquered by Nigeria in their fifth war does not put an end to the Biafran dream, and a Biafran resistance ends up being formed by Nnamdi Kanu to resist the Nigerian invaders. The resistance later organizes a large revolt in Enugu and the surrounding cities that catches Nigeria off-guard, and can ultimately lead to the Federal Republic being dismantled by the vengeful Biafrans.
  • Playing Games at Work: Senator Abba Moro of the Benue State is shown playing some online chess at his workplace computer in one event before getting rudely interrupted by an email informing him of the Cameroonians invading Ambazonia, while the player's focus tree rebuilding Biafra after the civil war is itself rudely interrupted by the invasion starting Biafra's war tree.
  • Tempting Fate: The final focus of the Eastern Military Region before a Nnamdi Kanu revolt is named "Our Work Done?", and when completed will lead to Nigeria annexing the region. Midway through this however, an event fires that shows several cities falling to an assortment of Biafran or Biafran-aligned rebel forces under Kanu.

Chimaroke Nnamani

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chimaroke_nnamani.png
Role: Head of State
Party: All-Progressives Grand Alliance
Ideology: Social Paternalismnote
The current president of the Republic of Biafra, who has been in office for an outrageously long time. He'll have to deal with a fifth Nigerian invasion, and lead his people against their oppressive foes once again.
  • Feeling Their Age: Nnamani has grown old and tired from his time as President, and fears that it won't be long before he starts having gaffes or other misfortunes that could befall an exhausted old man like him.
  • Passing the Torch: After a victorious Fifth Biafran War, Nnamani decides to call a snap election wherein he steps down and nominates Tonye Princewill as the APGA's candidate for president.

Peter Obi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/peterobi.png
Role: Head of State (Snap election)
Party: Labor Party of Biafra
Ideology: Third Waynote
The main standard-bearer of the Labor Party, who has negotiated a coalition with the National Interest Party in a bid to oppose the APGA's dominance in Biafran politics. He can potentially become Biafra's president following a snap election.

I.B.M Haruna

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ibrahim_bata.jpg
Role: Head Of State (Biafra defeated)
Party: Party for Immediate Reunification with Nigeria
Ideology: Military Governancenote

Nnamdi Okwu Kanu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/punished_kanu.jpg
Kanu as a general
Role: Military Commander, Head Of State (Biafran revolt)
Party: All-Biafraland Igboland National Salvation Movement/National Jewish Consciousness Association of Biafraland
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote
A popular general in the Biafran army.
  • Ascended Extra: Kanu plays a minor role in most of Biafra's paths, appearing only as a general in the army. He ends up having much more prominence in the path where Biafra is completely defeated by Nigeria and subsequently turned into the Eastern Military Region, organizing the Movement For National Salvation that stages a massive revolt against Nigerian rule.
  • Glorious Leader: Kanu creates a personality cult centered around himself if he wins against Nigeria and forms the Hebrew Republic of Biafra.
  • Rebel Leader: He creates the so-called "Movement For National Salvation" in the aftermath of Biafra's defeat and can end up leading them to victory against Nigeria in the ensuing revolt.

    Republic of Benin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_the_republic_of_benin.png
Official Name: Republic of Benin
Party: Technocracy Party of Benin
Ideology: Anocratic Liberalismnote
The Republic of Benin is a Biafran "sister republic" that was formed in the former Nigerian Mid-Western Region following Biafra's shocking victory.
  • Puppet State: Downplayed. Benin has completely separate political and cultural institutions from Biafra, but its small size means that Benin mostly relies on Biafran aid to survive.

Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/omoregie_ogbeide_ihama.jpg
Role: Head of State
Party: Technocracy Party of Benin

Role: Head of State
Ideology: Anocratic Liberalismnote
The long-ruling dictator of Cameroon, who seeks to restore Cameroonian borders by crushing the Federal Republic of Ambazonia.
  • Evil Old Folks: Biya has been in charge of Cameroon for over 39 years at this point, and is as despotic as ever in spite of his old age.

John Fru Ndi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/johnfru.png
Role: Head of State (Ambazonian victory)
Ideology: Democratic Socialismnote
The leader of the Cameroonian opposition against Paul Biya. Ndi takes power following Cameroon's defeat in the Ambazonian Crisis.

    Federal Republic of Ambazonia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_the_federal_republic_of_southern_cameroons.png
Official Name: Federal Republic of Ambazonia
Ideology: National Liberalismnote
Inspired by the Republic of Biafra's own decisive victory against a much stronger foe, the Anglophones in the region of Ambazonia rebelled against their Cameroonian oppressors. While the Anglophone Crisis has ended in a ceasefire, there are rumors that Paul Biya wants to reclaim Ambazonia and end Anglophone independence once and for all...
  • David Versus Goliath: Even with Biafra's backing, Ambazonia is said by international observers to have a very slim chance of actually winning a war with Cameroon. Their victory in said war comes as a massive shock to everybody, and results in the whole UN recognizing them as a legitimate country.

Cho Lucas Ayaba

Role: Head of State
Ideology: National Liberalismnote

    Democratic Republic of Bakassi

Florencio Mayé Elá

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/florencio_may_el.png
Role: Head of State
Ideology: Soviet Market Systemnote

East Africa

    East African Federation
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eaf_newflag.png
Official Name: East African Federation
Ruling Party: Front Patriotique d'Afrique de l'Est/East Africa Patriotic Front
Ideology: Anocratic Liberalismnote
The East African Federation is the newest superpower in Africa and the largest country on the continent in terms of both landmass and population. The federation, despite its robust economy and tremendous size, suffers both from poverty and an extreme language split despite the current government under Paul Kagame doing their best to solve these issues. This is to say nothing of the dire situation in South Sudan, which has become the young nation's current priority in recent years.
  • Mirror Character: The status of the EAF as a large and deeply unstable country mirrors that of the United States, with the EAF's intervention in the Somalia to combat Al-Shabaab being explicitly compared to US foreign policy.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Unifying six different countries into a single political entity didn't actually solve any of the former countries' problems, with South Sudan in particular collapsing into a chaotic mess of warlords, ethnic militias and even fundamentalist cults immediately upon its entry into the Federation.

Paul Kagame

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/paulkagame.png
Role: Head Of State
Party: Front Patriotique d'Afrique de l'Est/East Africa Patriotic Front
Ideology: Anocratic Liberalismnote
Paul Kagame was formerly the effective and calculating leader of Rwanda before the East African Federation was created, and his positive reputation in spite of his authoritarianism allowed him to easily win the presidency in 2016. Yet ruling a juggernaut 30 times the size of his beloved Rwanda has proven difficult, even with the aid and support of optimistic millions around the fledgling country.
  • Benevolent Dictator: An integral part of his reputation is that, despite being a dictator in the same vein as many of his fellow African strongmen, Kagame brought prosperity and rapid technological advancement to his Rwandan homeland instead of ruin.
  • Repressive, but Efficient: Kagame essentially ruled the former Rwanda as dictator for over two decades, but brought economic prosperity to the country and managed to heal the ethnic divisions between the Tutsis and Hutus. This reputation as an enlightened strongman is what brought Kagame to victory in the very first elections of the East African Federation.

    Republic of Seychelles
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bddc388c_36b5_4c27_80ae_177fc42175ee.png
Official Name: Republic of Seychelles
Ruling Party: PMC Councils
Ideology: Military Governancenote
The Republic of Seychelles is a small archipelago nation in Southern Africa. The republic's previous socialist government was overthrown by South African-backed mercenaries, who now rule it as their own domain where mercenaries all around the globe come to get the most cutting-edge equipment and training.
  • Alternate Character Interpretation: In-Universe. Public opinion is split between seeing the Seychelles as a rogue mercenary state funding terrorists or as a safe haven for freedom fighters working to combat oppressive governments all over the globe.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: The modus operandi of modern-day Seychelles. Whenever there's a destructive conflict in any part of the world, expect Seychellois mercenaries to be there as long as they are guaranteed payment for their work.
  • Multinational Team: Unsurprisingly, most of the mercenaries in Seychelles are from different countries all over the globe. De facto leader Moneta is Italian, while his possible successors Eeben Barlow (South African), Erik Prince (American), Tim Spicer (British) and Viktor Bout (Russian) are all of varying nationalities.
  • Only in It for the Money: The PMCs of Seychelles will help out any side in a conflict as long as they have enough cash to spare.
  • Private Military Contractors: The Republic of Seychelles are designed as a haven for PMCs.

Tullio Moneta

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_1590.jpeg
Role: Head of State
Party: PMC Councils
Ideology: Military Governancenote
The aging leader of Seychelles, Tullio Moneta has led a wild life of adventure around the globe which ultimately ended in him turning the archipelago into the modern-day mercenary paradise it is today. But as the elderly Moneta grows weaker and inches closer to death, it seems as if the stratocracy he has created may need to choose someone worthy enough to succeed the old man once he passes.
  • Dying Alone: No matter what decision the player takes, Moneta will still die without any friends or companions at his side. He'll either be found dead in his leather chair or get mortally wounded during a botched raid on an EFF outpost.
  • Go Out with a Smile: Should Moneta choose to have "one last ride" and join some mercenaries on a mission to infiltrate an EFF outpost, he'll die with a tired smile on his face after killing an EFF soldier.
  • Incurable Cough of Death: Moneta starts loudly coughing during an important meeting, a sign of the old man's growing weakness.
  • Old Soldier: Moneta has spent most of his life fighting in foreign wars, experiencing battle in places like Senegal, Kongo and South Africa. Unfortunately, he's mostly retired from going to the battlefield nowadays thanks to his advanced age.
  • Number Two: Served as "Mad Mike" Hoare's right hand man during the Seychelles coup, which led to him becoming the de facto leader of Seychelles following Hoare's resignation in 2000.

Eeben Barlow

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eeben_barlow.png
Role: Head of State (Moneta succession)
Party: PMC Councils
Ideology: Anocratic Liberalismnote

  • Amoral Afrikaner: Subverted. Barlow is a white African mercenary, but has a strict code of honor and doesn't tolerate less-than-stellar mercenaries in his ranks.
  • Internal Reformist: Downplayed in comparison to Bout, but Barlow seeks to reform the Seychellois state to clarify the various economic, political and civic differences between mercenary and civilian life on the archipelago.

Erik Prince

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/erik_prince.png
Role: Head of State (Moneta succession)
Ideology: Military Governancenote

  • Red Scare: Prince is the most vocal proponent of Seychelles engaging in more anti-communist oriented pursuits, wishing to put the mercenaries' strength to use against left-wing nations or insurgents.

Tim Spicer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tim_spicer.jpg
Role: Head of State (Moneta succession)
Ideology: Managerial Bureaucracynote

Viktor Bout

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/viktor_bout.jpg
Role: Head of State (Moneta succession)
Ideology: Soviet Market Systemnote

  • Dark Horse Victory: Bout has the least support in the Seychelles thanks to his left-wing ideas on how the mercenary state should be run, and thus it comes as a surprise when he comes out on top in the power struggle.

Somalian Collapse

    Republic of Somalia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_somalia.png
Official Name: Republic of Somalia

Ideology: Theocracynote
A so-called "emirate" headed by radical islamists that seek to end Western influence in Somalia.

Mukhtar Robow

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/robow.png
Role: Head of State
Ideology: Theocracynote

South Sudanese Collapse

East African Forces in South Sudan
Official Name: East African Forces in South Sudan
Ideology: Military Governancenote
South Sudan, even before its entry into the East African Federation, was wracked with instability and ethnic violence that made the (at the time) world's newest country a nightmare to live in. Immediately upon its entry into the EAF, various warlords resisted the integration and this caused the short-lived republic to collapse. In the years since then, the EAF forces in South Sudan have managed to get most of the country under control- though large swathes of land still lay in the hands of the warlords.
  • Wretched Hive: Inverted. South Sudan's former capital of Juba is one of the only places in South Sudan isn't in complete anarchy, though hostilities breaking out between EAF forces and the warlords could immediately change this.

Walter Koipaton Raria

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raria.png
Role: Head Of State
Ideology: Military Governancenote
General Walter Raria serves as the commander of the EAF's forces in South Sudan.
  • Cincinnatus: Raria and his troops are only in South Sudan to keep the peace, and later mount offensives against the warlords once hostilities break out again. If said offensives are successful and peace is brought to the region, Raria leaves South Sudan in the hands of the civilian government.

    Lord's Resistance Army
Official Name: Lord's Resistance Army, Realm of the Holy Spirit on Earth (South Sudan reunification)
Ideology: Theocracynote
A highly religious resistance movement hell-bent on driving out East African forces from South Sudan, establishing a holy realm in its place.
  • David Versus Goliath: It will be an extremely tough battle to drive out both the East African forces and Sudan People's Liberation Movement, due to the sheer size of their militaries compared to the LRA's own militias.
  • The Theocracy: True to its name, the Lord's Resistance Army forms an authoritarian Christian theocracy in South Sudan after taking over.

Ideology: Right-Libertarianismnote

Southern Africa

South Africa & Civil War Factions

    Republic of South Africa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saf_flag.png
Official Name: Republic of South Africa
Ruling Party: Nasionale Partynote
Ideology: Nativist Populismnote

  • Bread and Circuses: The Apartheid government can end up organizing state-sponsored parties and cultural festivities (including a pride convention in Pretoria) to calm down the growing unrest of the population following a year-long drought. This is even lampshaded by one of the focuses, which states that the ancient state of Rome had the "perfect political scheme" of giving the people bread and circus to calm down social tensions.
  • Contempt Crossfire: The white-led Apartheid government is hated by their fellow whites for giving the blacks and coloreds the right to vote, while the various groups that eventually make up the Black Redemption Front hate them for not giving the blacks enough rights despite them being in the majority. As a result, the ensuing South African Civil War is a Mêlée à Trois between them, the various radicals and a newly-independent Namibia.
  • Half-Breed Discrimination: Downplayed. Afrikaans-speaking Colouredsnote  have been given the exact same amount of rights as the white Afrikaners have. The same can't be said for other Coloureds though, and they are only given more rights if the Apartheid government wins the civil war as part of its dismantlement of Apartheid.
  • Hypocrite: As part of its extensive "pink-washing" campaign, the South African government has started to promote LGBTQ+ friendly policies to appear progressive and eminently reasonable to the world while also keeping the oppressive Apartheid system in place.
  • Your Terrorists Are Our Freedom Fighters: The government denounces the BLF, EFF and ANC as criminals who want to tear down South Africa. Despite this, a large number of Black South Africans have started to sympathize with these organizations thanks to the effects of Apartheid still being felt.

Andries Breytenbach

Role: Head of State
Party: Nasionale Partynote
Ideology: Nativist Populismnote

Role: Head of State (Civil War)
Party: Progressive Federal Party
Ideology: Social Liberalismnote

    Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/afrikaner.png
Official Name: Zuid Afrikaansche RepubliekTr.
Ruling Party: Afrikaner Weerstandsbewegingnote
Ideology: Ethno-Supremacismnote

  • Bait-and-Switch Tyrant: Heavily downplayed, but the AWB can end up "just" reinstating full Apartheid in the aftermath of their victory to completely deprive the non-whites of their rights. The only other option is to just indiscriminately deport all non-whites elsewhere.
  • Citadel City: Orania, in addition to being a town exclusively for whites, is surprisingly well-fortified. This comes in handy during the civil war, when Orania ends up being cut off from the rest of the Afrikaner forces and surrounded by enemies on all sides. The focus description for sieging Orania as the BRF even calls the town "The Citadel of Whiteness".
  • Evil Versus Evil: One of the AWB's many enemies are the EFF, who are just as brutal and genocidal as they are.
  • Mood Whiplash: The "Fags In The City" event initially starts off humorously, showing a few high-ranking AWB ministers huddled around a small iPhone watching a low-quality video clip and wondering if they had anything better to do. The tone quickly turns horrifying however when it turns out that the video clip shows a group of AWB skinheads attacking six whites for being queer, with the next three minutes featuring crying, screaming, broken legs and fractured skulls. Five of them end up in intensive care, while one is rendered paralyzed from the waist down. The AWB ministers then furiously debate over whether to compensate the queers' families or to ignore the incident entirely, before agreeing to let Von Rönge decide on their next course of action.
  • Nazi Protagonist: The AWB is a Neo-Nazi organization.

Steyn Von Rönge

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/507650dd_26ef_44de_ba84_d67e1c8227a4.jpeg
Role: Head of State
Party: Afrikaner Weerstandsbewegingnote
Ideology: Ethno-Supremacismnote
The second-in-command of the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging, who has largely taken the reins of leading the organization from the aging Terre'Blanche.
  • Dragon-in-Chief: Von Rönge is technically just the second-in-command of the AWB's Supreme Commander Terre Blanche, but Blanche's old age has reduced him to just being a figurehead and thus Von Rönge is the one who runs their daily operations and truly calls the shots.
  • Pet the Dog: Von Rönge can potentially help provide compensation to the families of six young victims of a brutal homophobic attack in Pretoria, though he makes clear that it's only because the victims in question are whites and thus are "the blood of our state".
  • Sinister Shades: Von Rönge is a racist Neo-Nazi and wears sunglasses in his portrait.

Eugene Terre'Blanche

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/terreblanche.jpeg
Role: Military Commander, Supreme Commander Of The Boer Forces
Party: Afrikaner Weerstandsbewegingnote
Ideology: Ethno-Supremacismnote
The founder of the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging and Supreme Commander of the Boer Forces.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In OTL Terre'Blanche died in 2010, but not in TotA thanks to more advanced medical technologies.
  • Evil Old Folks: Terre'Blanche is the leader of an Afrikaner white supremacist, Neo-Nazi organization and 79 years old at game start.
  • Meaningful Name: His last name, Terre'Blanche, means "White Land", which coicidentially corresponds to his ideal for South Africa, a land for the whites and no one else.
  • Puppet King: Terre'Blanche is nominally the leader of the AWB and the Boer Forces but he is simply a figurehead because of his old age.

    Black Redemption Front
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brf.png
Official Name: Black Redemption Front, Azanian Democratic Republic (Mngxitama, Mabasa), People’s Republic of South Africa (Mapaila), Free Communes of Azania (Mtetwa), People’s Republic of Azania (Malema)
Ruling Party: Black First Land First
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote
An alliance between various Black nationalist groups that violently rises up against the Apartheid government.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Most parties within the Black Redemption Front hate the whites and coloureds while planning to discriminate against them should they take power, but even they find the ethnic-cleansing that Malema conducted in Orania (a city that is nearly 99% white) reprehensible. If anyone other than Malema himself takes power in BRF-led South Africa, then he will be captured and put on trial.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: The BRF has a noble goal of completely dismantling the oppressive Apartheid system which the Black majority languishes under, but they’re uncompromisingly brutal in their mission to free South Africa from the imperialists.
  • You Cannot Kill An Idea: Nelson Mandela eventually died during his time in prison, but the dream of a free Azania burns in the hearts of many black nationalists and they see the civil war as an opportunity to make it reality.

Andile Mngxitama

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c6f728e4_e83f_4d46_a861_9422e5cb7236.jpeg
Role: Head of State
Party: Black First Land First
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote
The leader of the Black First Land First militia and de facto leader of the Black Redemption Front at the start of the civil war.
  • Cincinnatus: Mngxitama serves as the de facto leader of the Black Redemption Front during the civil war, and will later step down following the first Congress of the Peoples of Azania to make way for either Mapaila or Mabasa. This can be subverted if the Congress is deadlocked and the BLF is allowed to crack down on the Anarchists, resulting in Mngxitama being installed as interim president as part of a deal he makes with the congress.

Solly Afrika Mapaila

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c268f0b2_856b_4347_a65d_371ed8dacf38.jpeg
Role: Head of State (SACP Congress victory)
Party: South African Communist Party
Ideology: Soviet Market Systemnote
The current General Secretary of the South African Communist Party, who joins the Black Redemption Front in their war against the Boers and the Apartheid government. Mapaila is a known proponent of the "Rainbow Nation" theory, believing that South Africa is a multiracial land where all races must be allowed to co-exist.
  • Boring, but Practical: Mapaila is considered the "safe" option during the the first Congress of the Peoples of Azania, being a standard communist who advocates for an adoption of the Soviet Market System and the unity of all South Africans no matter the color of the skin. Indeed, the election of the SACP allows South Africa to finally join the wider international community with Soviet help while also making sure that all its citizens will have a reasonable future ahead of them.
  • Meaningful Rename: Averted. Mapaila is the only potential leader of a victorious Black Redemption Front that does not change the country's name to Azania (a decolonized name for South Africa that is popular among the Pan-Africanists), which the others will do.

Tiyana Lybon Mabasa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mabasa.png
Role: Head of State (SOPA Congress victory)
Party: Socialist Party Of Azania
Ideology: Left-Accelerationismnote
A former anti-apartheid activist turned president of the Socialist Party of Azania, Mabasa and his party are left-leaning technocrats who seek to de-radicalize South Africa's technology and build a technologically advanced Azania.
  • Emperor Scientist: As is the case with other technocrat leaders, though Mabasa's Azania is described as being as democratic a technocracy can be given his willingness to cooperate with lower-ranking whites.

Lekhetho Mtetwa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lekhetho_mtetwa.jpg
Role: Head of State (Congress crisis, Zabalaza Federation victory)
Party: Zabalaza Anarchist Communist Federation
Ideology: Collectivist Anarchismnote
The main spokesman and representative of the Zabalaza Anarchist Communist Federation.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: The anarchists only make their move if the Congress is unable to reach a consensus and deadlocks, leading to the SACP and SOPA exhausting themselves in the debates. Seeing the two sides as now vulnerable to rival factions, Mtetwa denounces the whole business as a farce and calls for the dissolution of the state itself.

Julius Malema

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/julius_malema.png
Role: Head of State (EFF coup)
Party: Economic Freedom Fighters
Ideology: Ethno-Supremacismnote
The leader and founder of the Economic Freedom Fighters. He is the most powerful individual in the alliance, holding the largest amount of men and enjoying a massive amount of popular support.
  • The Coup: If the civil war lasts too long, Malema will gather a group of EFF militiamen and attempt to seize the wartime capital of KwaDukuza. The coup will only succeed if the Red Guards stationed within defect and let him enter the government buildings, leading to Malema granting himself extensive emergency powers to hopefully put an end to the genocidal war.
  • Downer Ending: Malema's People's Republic of Azania is by far the bleakest ending for a victorious Black Redemption Front, with his massacres of non-blacks causing a nationwide exodus of South Africans and the available content itself ending with Malema proclaiming a war for the total liberation and unification of Africa.
  • Historical Villain Upgrade: As controversial Malema is in real life, his TotA counterpart is much worse. He leads the Economic Freedom Fighters' massacre at Orania during the South African civil war and will later try to seize power in a coup. He then starts killing non-blacks en masse should he take power following a Black Redemption Front victory.
  • Painting the Medium: He does not share the Black Redemption Front's triumphant super-event, and instead has his own super-event. Said super-event features the sounds of screams and burning overlaid on ominous Zulu war chants.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Is by far the most overtly genocidal leader of the Black Redemption Front, perpetuating massacres in Orania during the civil war. Should he take power, he'll attempt to erase the Afrikaans language entirely before conducting a genocide of non-blacks that results in hundreds of them fleeing the country.
