The Reforged

Our heroes: a ragtag gang of adventurers who were brought together by a shared loss. Now, despite their different temperaments, they travel the Realms in search of gold, redemption, family and home. But mainly gold.

    In General

  • Anti-Hero Team: Despite the best efforts of the more lawfully-inclined, the Reforged often find themselves veering into behaviour that is mercenary at best, and immoral at worst. However, subverted somewhat in that most of them tend to have good intentions.
  • Combat, Diplomacy, Stealth: Embodied by different members of the Reforged, Combat is embodied by multiple characters, Diplomacy is less popular with Visimar and Callidus, but attempted to be used often by Vilwyn and Kharmir and Stealth is used regularly by Callidus
  • Character Alignment: Their is a strict divide between the chaotic neutrals (Callidus and Visimar) and the generally-goods (Kharmir and Vilwyn). Their differing moral compasses have caused much internal strife, but they battle on together anyway.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Alluded to in the name. The Reforged are held together by their losses. After Baesellor/Lancion's death, their shared desire to complete the mission he began with them led them to set aside their differences and band together.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: A given for a D&D party. The Reforged comprises a sullen street urchin, an ancient warrior preserved in stasis, a mercenary-turned-cleric and a vampiric elf with magical blood.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Given their different attitudes to what is 'right,' this is a hallmark of their dynamic as a party. Most pronounced between Kharmir and Callidus, who seem to represent opposites on the sliding scale of law and chaos.

    Callidus Archia

Callidus Archia

Played by: Joe Monk

Race: Human
Class: Rogue (Assassin)
Alignment: Chaotic neutral
Appearances: Campaign One: The Reforged

Right hand of the Collectress

A quiet, sullen young man who grew up on the streets before being taken in by Arania of the Deep, a powerful crime lady in the capital city. He aspires to become cultured, sophisticated and prestigious, despite his wretched past. Unpredictable and ruthless, Callidus suffers no insults against his beloved patroness.

  • The Alcoholic: It is very difficult to keep him away from a drink if it's available.
  • Badass Cape: He swaps his ragged cloak with an ornate one from the seamstress in Correnwald. His entrance into a fight is commonly heralded by the fluttering of green fabric.
  • Blind Obedience: Towards his employer and foster mother, Arania of the Deep. He is eternally grateful to her for taking him out of poverty and training him in the ways of crime and culture. His loyalty runs so deep that he will happily kill anyone who insults her, such as Otis Bolger, who makes the mistake of calling her a 'priggish southern bitch'. It is implied there is a romantic dimension to his feelings, but whether it is reciprocated is ambiguous.
  • Bow and Sword in Accord: He wields both a crossbow and a shortsword, sometimes in tandem.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: Despite being a frequent and heavy drinker, Callidus is an outrageous lightweight. His drunkenness causes him to fail at stealth and slip and alert a hungry ghohlbrorn to his approach. Later on, when drinking with Kharmir at a tavern, he clumsily starts a bar brawl and then falls off his chair.
  • Character Development: It's slow, but his more sadistic tendencies have lessened while he's been travelling with the Reforged.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Callidus' skillset - capable of inflicting heavy damage from hidden positions - is best for fast-moving, long-range combat, which fits nicely alongside his refusal to put himself in direct danger.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Though he hardly alludes to it, it is clear that the horrors he experienced growing up on the streets of a post-war Sturmenfell have hardened him into the killer he is today. His one positive relationship before meeting the Reforged - with his employer, Arania of the Deep - is implied to be exploitative and even quasi-Oedipal in nature.
  • Dual Wielding: Likes to handle an elven shortsword in his dominant hand and a regular one in his offhand.
  • Easily Forgiven: Downplayed. His rashness such as killing the leader of a halfling gang purely for insulting his mistress and habit of killing fleeing enemies drives heavy wedges into the party, even threatening to split them apart during the Correnwald arc. However, they always find a way to patch up their differences, despite Callidus' sluggish progress in the moral department.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Ironically for a ranged fighter, he has a dreadful Perception score.
  • Fantastic Racism: Towards goblins. After going through hell in the Needlefang cave, he has made it his personal mission to exterminate every goblin he sees. Somewhat justified, given goblins' reputation for being Always Chaotic Evil.
  • Flat-Earth Atheist: The Realms Within are visibly marked by the touch of the divine, and Alagost is the nation with the most recent history with godlike beings. However, having grown up shortly after the death of the last recognised demigod, Callidus has become disillusioned with the stifling theocracy of the Storm Pontiffs and elects instead to disbelieve the existence of divine power.
  • Fragile Speedster: Despite his great agility, he is not very resilient. A single leap from the ghohlbrorn in Session 14 puts him a hair's breadth from being instantly crushed to death.
  • Glass Cannon: His Sneak Attack feature allows him to dispense a great deal of damage under the right circumstances. However, he can't take much before falling unconscious.
  • Handsome Lech: He is described as being quite the looker, and he frequents brothels, but his advances are often so drunken and passionless that he easily puts potential suitors off.
  • It's All About Me: Definitely prioritises his needs above those of his party. In Session 18, when Kharmir offers to give Mama Marianne a crucial memory in exchange for Visimar's sight, Callidus refuses point-blank to give up his relationship with Arania.
  • Long-Range Fighter: He will draw his shortswords if he's forced to, but he much prefers to harry enemies from a distance with crossbow bolts or thrown daggers.
  • A Man Is Always Eager: He is the most openly lustful of the Reforged, spending a lot of time in seedy taverns in pursuit of sex.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Despite the horrified reactions of his comapnions, he doesn't feel bad at all for killing Otis Bolger or the fleeing Unlaf, seeing as they both had harmful intent.
  • One Last Job: Subverted. Though he adores Arania, he was hoping that his mission to Correnwald would finally repay her for taking him in. The job goes wrong, trapping him in his debt.
  • Recruited from the Gutter: How he came into the employ of Arania of the Deep. She took him in as an adolescent and trained him to become a pickpocket. Then she taught him to be a killer.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Kharmir's blue. Despite his outwardly stoic demeanour, Callidus is a hothead to the core. Where Kharmir is thoughtful, careful and loyal to a moral code, Callidus is totally willing to break the law, and has a wildly unpredictable streak, capable of violence at the drop of a hat.
  • Running Gag: He frequently mentions his obsessive love of 'salty loaf'.
  • The Sneaky Guy: As a rogue and former street urchin, Callidus finds it very easy to blend into the shadows.
  • Satisfied Street Rat: Though he doesn't delve into the specifics of his past, he takes pride in the fact that he was hardened by it, and sees himself as the only member of the Reforged who is truly liberated.
  • Social Darwinist: He has little sympathy for those he views as 'weak,' and aligns himself with the typical Alagosian ideal of might makes right.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: Aspires to become this, though his sullenness (and violence) holds him back.
  • The Stoic: Callidus spends most of his time quietly observing, speaking laconically when he has to speak at all. Even when driven to murderous rage, he hardly emotes at all, capable of committing violence with nary a scowl.
  • Street Urchin: Grew up as one of these in the years following the War of the High King, and therefore experienced the crushing poverty of a post-war capital. It's a past he tries to mask with the appearance of wealth and sophistication.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: 'Hero' might not be an accurate description. His violent behaviour earns him righteous dressings-down from his companions, especially Kharmir.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Arania of the Deep.

  • Fisticuff-Provoking Comment: Has received several of these(often from Callidus) which cause him to retaliate with a fist, sometimes imbued with divine power.
  • Healing Hands: A fundamental part of being a paladin allows him to heal himself or his allies at a touch.
  • Judge Juryand Executioner: Self imposed previously, when Kharmir, horrified by Tealeaf's plan to blow up the whole of Correnwald he enacts this by chopping off Tealeaf's head and declaring 'I am your arbiter'

  • Southern Gentleman: Kharmir speaks in a Texan drawl, and holds himself to high levels of respect for the public
  • Stout Strength: Is a Dwarf with significant strength, has punched a man and knocked him out in one blow, as well as ;dropping Callidus to near death when they were confronting each other after Tealeaf's plan to destroy Correnwald was revealed

  • The Paladin: Kharmir is a holy warrior from a lost civilisation who is sworn to the Great Crucible, the divine primordial source of life in dwarven mythology.
