Main Characters: Campaign One
One-Shots: Time Heist | Hunt for the Lament | The Darkened Temple
Setting: Gods and Godlike Beings | Historical Figures
Characters by Location: The Far North | Alagost | Ferin | Kastalav

Everyone in Ferin is talking about it: the sahuagin, found dead at the gate to the city. No-one can give a straight story, only that it was mutilated, wearing robes of the Lucent Church, and holding a notebook that speaks of a lost temple, filled with 'the indescribable and unknown'. You have been hired by Professor Paulo Verazi, a gnome archaeologist, to find the temple and make it safe for investigation, or failing in that, retrieve as many valuable artifacts as possible and escape with your lives. But all is not what is seems. In Ferin, and on the far away island where the temple stands, dark forces are at work, and you will need all of your strength and willpower to survive the challenges ahead.

The Lightbringers

Four highly-skilled individuals gathered by Professor Paolo Verazi to investigate rumours of a sunken temple, once belonging to a heretic denomination of the Lucent Church. Once they arrive, however, they realise the temple is home to things far more sinister than heretics.

    Grotar

Grotar

Played by: Brandon Hattam

Race: Goliath
Class: Fighter (Battle Master)/Barbarian (Path of the Beast)
Appearances: The Darkened Temple

A musclebound but intellectually challenged bodyguard who works as a bodyguard and majordomo for Professor Paolo Verazi.

  • Baritone of Strength: Grotar speaks with a very deep voice, and is the party member with the greatest physical strength.
  • Bald Head of Toughness: As a goliath, he is completely hairless. He's also a fiercely powerful fighter.
  • The Big Guy: As a goliath, it's a given. He stands at least a head taller than every other member of the Lightbringers.
  • Book Dumb: He's hardly lacking in fighting expertise, but Grotar struggles to form complete sentences.
  • Dumb Muscle: Fits the bill as a physically powerful but intellectually challenged barbarian.
  • Hidden Depths: While he comes across as a taciturn hunk of dumb muscle, Grotar manages to keep up with Rospere in a discussion about theology, and has a surprisingly sophisticated knowledge of historical figures such as High King Ceonred.
  • Hulk Speak: Speaks almost exclusively in this.
  • Partial Transformation: He can assume animalistic body parts such as claws, fangs and a spiny tail to use in combat.
  • Super-Strength: His barbarian rage and bestial powers grant him hugely enhanced strength.

    Furius Ardor

Furius Ardor

Played by: Joe Monk

Race: Human
Class: Wizard (School of Evocation)
Appearances: The Darkened Temple

A wizard with an aptitude for the elements, Furius is an exceedingly proud individual whose involvement in the Sol Ecclesia expedition is grounded in his lust for knowledge.

  • Dragged Off to Hell: His ultimate fate. That's what you get when you insult the god of the sun in his own temple.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Haelion sends an angel to cast him into the fires of hell, where he will suffer for eternity. His crime? Stealing. That said, Furius chose to ally with Sulla, who had just attempted to kill a high-ranking and devoted member of the Lucent Church in Haelion's own temple.
  • Fate Worse than Death: When they attempt to steal the loot of the chamber, he and Sulla are rewarded for their insult by being cast into the fires of the Nine Hells, fated to be ripped to shreds by a demonic horde for all eternity. Yikes.

May the Light of Haelion shine upon you.
Race: Human
Class: Paladin (Oath of Inquisition)
Appearances: The Darkened Temple

An inquisitor of the Lucent Church based in Ferin, charged with rooting out heresies where they fester. A reluctant participant in the expedition, Rospere's rigid adherence to his faith is tested by what he finds in the darkened temple.

  • Badass Preacher: A holy man who is deadly with a rapier and whose faith is strong enough to empower him with magic.
  • Church Militant: A member of the immensely powerful Inquisition of the Lucent Church. His job is to root out heresy in Ferin and report offenders to the government.
  • Crisis of Faith: After witnessing the horrors abounding in the temple of the Sol Ecclesia, he is profoundly disturbed that such things can exist in the same world as his god. A more subtle one comes at the end of the one-shot, when he seems to be questioning the tenets of his own faith after becoming more familiar with Kurok-Taia's.
  • Fantastic Racism: Rospere is initially repelled by the idea of a sahuagin (a four-armed humanoid fish monster) wearing the robes of the Lucent Church. Justified from his perspective in that Ferin is frequently assaulted by sahuagin raiding parties, so he has become used to seeing them as disorganised barbarians and savages. However, when he sees the state of the Sol Ecclesia's temple, and learns of his undaunted faith in the face of Abrohan, he begins referring to the sahuagin by his real name (Kurok-Taia) and even commissions a proper burial in the tradition of the church.
