Main Characters
A demonic entity that possesses people and makes them do horrible things. He possessed a Serial Killer named Jacob Murphy and kills Ben and Ashley's parents. He has now come after Nicole and her unborn baby.
Tropes that apply to The Rake:
- An Arm and a Leg: Implied. The Rake's left arm ends in a hook, and the hand that grabs Ben looks very different from The Rake's right hand.
- Adaptational Villainy: Oh very much so. The Rake usually attacks out of predatory instinct. Here, he's a psychotic murderer who forces people to commit horrible crimes before possessing them and he's an Adaptational Abomination (See below), and he performs a Grand Theft Me on Ben.
- Adaptational Abomination: Usually, he is an Animalistic Abomination with a few subdued supernatural abilities. In this film, he's a demonic entity that possesses people before forcing them to commit horrible crimes.
- Adaptational Badass: This version of The Rake can possess people, is very persuasive, and can shapeshift.
- Adaptational Intelligence: He's significantly less feral than his original counterpart.
- Big Bad: He's the main antagonist of the film.
- Body Horror: He has mismatched arms, holes in his neck, Canine-esque feet, his claws appear to tear out of his fingers, his abdomen is bloated, and he tears his way out of Ben's corpse.
- Composite Character: He is based on The Rake, but many of his traits (Having a featureless face, the ability of possession, and apparent teleportation powers) belong to Slender Man. His tendency to go after children also evokes Laughing Jack. At one point, he's described as being similar to Wendigos.
- Eye Scream: Has a hole where his left eye should be.
- Facial Horror: Has three large gashes on the left side of his face, is completely faceless, and he has a hole where his left eye should be. He also has an enormous, lipless mouth with large strands of flesh keeping the jaw together.
- Fingore: His claws appear to be protruding out of his fingers.
- Grand Theft Me: He performs this on Ben.
- In Name Only: He has virtually nothing in common with his original counterpart. The only thing kept intact is his persuasive whispers.
- Offscreen Teleportation: Appears to be capable of this, considering many of the kills would be impossible if he wasn't capable of teleportation.
- Soft-Spoken Sadist: Much like the original, he's very persuasive, barely raising his whispery voice. Though in this one, it happens Offscreen.
- Spell My Name with a "The": He's The Rake.
- The Faceless: Has no face.
- Voluntary Shapeshifter: He has various forms that he takes throughout the film.
Ashley's brother. He witnessed his parent's deaths, and he was left traumatized. Fortunately, he's way better at hiding it than Ashley. Unfortunately, things go to hell when The Rake comes back 20 years later.
Tropes that apply to Ben:
- Body Horror: The Rake possesses him, forces him to kill himself, and then tears his way out of Ben's corpse.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: He's Mind-Raped, possessed, forced to stab out his own eyes and forced to slit his own throat, and then The Rake tears his way out of his corpse.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Much like his sister, he was traumatized by the death of his parents. On that very same night, he also witnessed a man slit his own throat.
- Decoy Protagonist: Both him and Ashley could qualify as this.
- Death Of A Parent: His parents died when he was still a child.
- Eye Scream: He stabs out his own eyes after getting possessed.
- Flat Character: Has very little characterization beyond "The nice man".
- Grand Theft Me: The Rake does this to him after Mind-Raping him.
- Nice Guy: His only defining characteristic.
- Psychic-Assisted Suicide: The Rake forces him to kill himself.
- Stepford Smiler: Unlike Ashley, Ben appears to have gotten over his parent's deaths. Turns out, he was faking it, and never truly got over it.
Ben's sister. She's been traumatized by her parents' deaths, and has a hard time hiding it. Unfortunately, things get worse for the poor girl when The Rake returns and attacks her friends and family.
Tropes that apply to Ashley:
- Dark and Troubled Past: Her parents were killed in front of her. And on top of that, the person who killed them kills himself.
- Decoy Protagonist: Both she and Ben can qualify as this.
- Flat Character: Has very little characterization beyond "Traumatized person".
- Nervous Wreck: She's this in spades.
- Offing the Offspring: Does this before she's reintroduced.
- Sanity Slippage: Her mental state only gets worse from here.
Nicole's husband. He has disdain for Ashley. Things go to hell when The Rake invades Nicole's party.
Tropes that apply to Andrew:
- Asshole Victim: He's a huge prick to Ashley because she wasn't happy when Nicole announced that she was pregnant. On top of that, when he thinks Ashley's in the basement, his tone of voice and face heavily implied that he was gonna beat the shit out of her. Unsurprisingly, The Rake kills him and no one in the audience sympathized with him.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: He's viciously attacked by The Rake in the basement, and is stabbed through the back, and then The Rake slowly tears into his throat with his claws.
- Flat Character: He's "The Asshole". That's about it.
- Ignored Epiphany: Nicole calls him out on being an asshole to Ashley. His response?
- Andrew: I guess I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about.
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Happens when The Rake attacks him in the basement.
- Jerkass: He is nothing but a prick to Ashley.
- Would Hit a Girl: Implied. His tone of voice and face when he thinks he hears Ashley in the basement makes him sound like he's gonna kick her ass.
An innocent young woman who's married to Andrew. She throws a party, but The Rake crashes it.
Tropes that apply to Nicole:
- Ambiguous Situation: It's unclear if The Rake actually appeared in front of her at the end or if it's all in her head.
- Flat Character: Her character can easily be summed up as "The Nice Girl who's married to an asshole".
- Final Girl: She's the Sole Survivor (Though it's unclear if she survives. See Uncertain Doom below).
- Informed Attribute: She says she's capable of defending herself, and yet she cowers in the climax.
- Nice Girl: Her only characteristic.
- Uncertain Doom: It's unknown if she survives or not.
- What the Hell, Hero?: She calls out Andrew for being an ass to Ashley. He doesn't listen.

- Cruel and Unusual Death: She's impaled through the back, and then has the flesh on her face ripped off.

She's Jeremy's wife.
Tropes that apply to Gib:
- Body Horror: Her corpse is horrifically mutilated and soaked in gore. This sight is enough to cause Jeremy to vomit.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: Downplayed, considering we don't see her death, but judging by the state of her corpse after the fact, it's clear she did not die quick and painlessly.
- Facial Horror: Her face after she dies is torn to pieces and soaked in gore.
- Killed Offscreen: Her corpse appears. We don't see her death.
- Peek-a-Boo Corpse: Her corpse serves this purpose.
- The Ghost: She's mentioned once. Becomes quite literal after her corpse is shown.
- We Hardly Knew Ye: Exaggerated. She dies before she's introduced to us.
An employee of Michelle whom she talks to over the phone twice.
Tropes That Apply to Graham:
- Ambiguous Situation: Because he's barely a factor, we never learn much about him and what happens to him in the end.
- Late Character Syndrome: He only becomes a part of the movie when Michelle is introduced. Later Exaggerated, as he's so late to Nicole's party, he never shows up once.
- Satellite Character: He only exists to pester Michelle with phone calls.
- The Ghost: He's never seen once. He talks to Michelle on the phone twice and then he's never heard from again.
