The MC and their twin sibling

Tropes That Apply To Both Twins
  • Healing Factor: They recover and heal unusually fast. A fractured ulna, for example, takes one week to be fully healed for them.
  • Identity Impersonator: The public speculated that this is what happened at the studio at the start when the twins (one as TV host, one as Swashbuckler) are seen together. Bello and some villains will muse this, too, suspecting the Player to have been the Swashbuckler all along.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: The beginning of the game sets them up to be this: MC is the charismatic talk show host while the twin is the shy recluse. MC can also potentially be someone who hates the vigilante lifestyle and would rather remain a civilian, to contrast their twin running about fighting crime as the Swashbuckler.
  • Sharing a Body: This can happen to them in one possible ending, if magical mishaps during the final battle cause the twins to merge into one body.
  • Solomon Divorce: They are separated from each other at the age of 12 in the wake of their parents divorcing.
  • Sibling Team: A possible ending, with two different variations. Either the MC debuts with their own hero persona to fight alongside their twin, or both of them moonlight as the Swashbuckler.
  • Single-Minded Twins: A bit of a running joke throughout the story (that MC and their twin are the same person in two bodies), that can however come back around and bite them in the back in certain endings (see Sharing a Body above).

     The Caledon TV Celebrity
The Player Character of the game. For the past five years they've hosted a successfull TV show and are now set to marry the mayor. They got an identical twin they deemed a recluse until the twin gets kidnapped in their place and they find out said twin is the person behind the masked superhero The Swashbuckler. Now it's up to them to take up the Swashbuckler's mask, save their twin, find out who is behind the kidnapping, and all that before the wedding.
  • Can't Stay Normal: In some endings the game will push the Player to continue moonlighting as superhero. However, it always provides a good reason for doing so, instead of just But Thou Must!.
  • Celebrity Masquerade: Technically, should the Player elect to become a hero after the story.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: The game lets the Player net achievements for failure (such as getting captured by the three main villains) without barring them from ultimately saving the day.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: The MC can go back to their civilian life in the end.
  • Legacy Character: The Player can take up the Swashbuckler's legacy if the Twin dies in the final fight.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: While the MC does have the same outstanding athletic abilities as their twin, they start out just a TV show host with no experience in crimefighting whatsoever. Does not mean they can't kick the behind of a villain threatening the station even before the story really starts.
  • Part-Time Hero: The Player will keep their daytime job if they take up the mask. The Twin also seems to have a regular life (albeit they pretend to be a recluse), and all the villains have regular daytime jobs.

     The Swashbuckler

  • Cool Mask: The Swashbuckler wears a scarlet wrap-around mask.
  • Cool Sword: Their saber. It's quite literally a basket-hilted lightsaber.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: The Swashbuckler wears black and scarlet, and is described as A shadow within a shadow.
  • Heroic Fatigue: The main reason they suggests the Player taking up the mask alongside them.
  • Non-Powered Costumed Hero: At the start of the story there's some discussion about whether this applies to the Swashbuckler or not.
  • Secret Relationship: With the Reporter. The MC only finds out about this after the reporter gives them a passionate smooch while they are masquerading as the Swashbuckler.
  • Superheroes Wear Capes: The Swashbuckler's cape is fire-resistant and detachable.
  • Spy Catsuit: The Swashbuckler wears one.
  • The Cowl: Crosses with its nicer counterpart for The Swashbuckler.
  • Utility Belt: Their scarlet sash is one.
  • Where Does He Get All Those Wonderful Toys?: Granted, it is known: Quentin, genius and their friend from childhood days, builds them. Also, due to where Quentin works now: NASA.

Friends and Supporting Characters

     The Reporter, R. Bello

  • Going for the Big Scoop: Be it investigating zombies (and almost getting mauled by them), trying to save the Swashbuckler from a deathtrap, or getting exciting over the prospect of a villain attacking an auction they're attending.
  • Intrepid Reporter: They run a successful society news blog, and have a pencance to get into trouble on their search for scoops. The fact that the Swashbuckler had to rescue them so often drove them to become the M/Patriarch in one possible path.
  • One-Steve Limit: They are one of the characters whose name will change depending on what the player enters as their own name. They're default name is either Robert or Rebecca, but can change to Richard or Ross, respectively Regina or Rose. Surname will always be Bello.

     The Mayor, C. Rasmussen

     The Scientist

  • One-Steve Limit: He is one of the characters whose name will change depending on what the player enters as their own name. His default name is Quentin Marsh, but their first name can change to Quincy or Quillon, and his surname can change to Morris.
  • Secret-Keeper: At the start of the story he's the only one in on the Swashbuckler's secret identity. Naturally, as the lasersword was his invention.

     The Police Chief
Name: Chief Robinson

  • No Full Name Given: We never learn his first name.
  • One-Steve Limit: He is another character whose name will change depending on the player's own name. His default name is Robinson (no first name given), but can change to Jamison.
  • The Commissioner Gordon: Sort of, at least. He does respect the Swashbuckler, but makes no secret of the Swashbuckler kinda grinding his nerves. Will also not hesitate arresting the player for wasting police time.

(Fr)Enemies

    Bloodmist
Real Name: Sonia MacAllister

  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: Her MO for fighting. Her nails/claws are hard as steel when she wants.
  • The Ageless: She got turned in the 1750s, when she was probably in her late 20s early 30s (if the most likely MC's age is anything to go by)
  • Anti-Villain: Her main motivation is to keep the city prospering while preserving the Old City, as it reminds her of her late husband.
  • A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing: In her civilian guise, she's a respected member of Caledon City's High Society and member of one of the city's oldest families. She's also president of the historical society
  • Cradling Your Kill: If MC lets Bloodmist kill Firebrand it'll look as if she's doing this/is locked in a passionate kiss with him. Her being a vampire should however give no illusions to what she's actually doing.
  • Daywalking Vampire: Might or might not have something to do with her shapeshifting ability.
  • Frozen Fashion Sense: Her outfits always seem slightly updated from what was en vogue decades before any given photograph of her was taken.
  • Hemo Erotic: It's stated that her bite feels really good, to the point of getting a content sigh out of the MC.
  • Killed Off for Real: This can happen to her if MC has a better relationship with Firebrand and lets him kill her.
  • Kiss of Distraction: She tries to pull this on the MC before biting them. Might have this been done to her immediately after by the MC.
  • Life Drinker: She states outright that it's not the blood itself she needs, but the essence of life.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Well, at least 250+, seeing she was turned in the mid-18th century.
  • Stronger with Age: She used the time to learn some magic.
  • Vampires Are Rich: She's part of one of the oldest and wealthiest families in Caledon City.
  • Vampires Are Sex Gods: She's quite seductive and a little sultry.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Her civilian identity is part of one of the wealthiest, oldest and most influential families in the city.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: She can change her complexion and hair at will, as well as hide her fangs.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: She doesn't seem entirely happy with her situation, especially after her husband died due to letting her voluntarily feed on him.
  • Your Vampires Suck: Not too impressed when the MC tries to use pop-culture methods against her.

    Firebrand
Real Name: Carlo Delgado

  • A Hero to His Hometown: To Dockerstown, his district, due to all his ill-gotten gains being used to help its people.
  • Anti-Climactic Unmasking: Can happen with him when MC bests him in battle and decides to see who is under the hood without having found his name first. If MC tries to romance him as civilian in the end, this will be acknowledged and they'll learn his name when he starts working as lighting tech at their station.
  • Any Last Words?: If MC loses against Firebrand before the apartment fire he'll do this, giving MC the opportunity to turn the tables by either headbutting him, throwing him off physically or verbally, or giving him a big slobbery kiss.
  • Bright Is Not Good: His costume is bright orange and yellow.
  • Churchgoing Villain: Firebrand's catholic, has a strict moral codex about never attacking churches of any kind, helps out his church's charity (both legally and not), and in one path is shown crossing himself when he gets flustered.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: At first he might come across as the Brawns contrasting Bloodmist's Brains. Nevertheless while precision isn't his style (according to the MC) he built a bomb with incorrectly color-coded wires possibly on purpose, managed to set said bomb up without almost anyone noticing, and, at least in one path, learned how to control fire's path in about two weeks. See Genius Bruiser below.
  • Dartboard of Hate: While we don't know if Firebrand himself has one for anyone, we can learn that Caledon's firefighters got printouts of his face plastered to all the dartboards back at the station.
  • Death Trap: Only villain in the game to do this. If he wins the fight after the apartment fire, he'll set one up in a fireworks warehouse. He does feel a bit sorry for trying to kill the MC in such a spectacular way, but the cause comes first. He's also livestreaming the whole thing and YMMV on whether that is a cruel taunt or a sneaky safety-measure to make sure the MC actually gets rescued.
  • Elemental Punch: His fighting MO (aside from throwing Fireballs) is setting his hands on fire. They're also the only part of him that he can do that with.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He will not attack churches/places of worship, no matter the denomination. Also he fights tooth and claw to keep the King of Diamonds' drugs out of his district.
  • Genius Bruiser: While he is hot-headed and impulsive most of the time, a bit of a throwaway-line reveals he worked as a Sous-Chef at a high-class restaurant. This means he must have gone to college and earned his bachelor's degree in culinary arts/science and have shown great organizational, teamwork and general cooking skills.
  • Having a Blast: A subset of his pyrokinetic powers. He blew up at least one bank, and will bomb his way into wherever the MC is potentially held captive to rescue them.
  • Killed Off for Real: Can happen to him if MC has a better relationship with Bloodmist and lets her kill him.
  • Loveable Rogue: He may be snarky and inconsiderate towards anyone but the people of his district, but he has the heart in the right spot. Also, in one possible ending we learn he took up a job at the station, and is legally collecting money for charity.
  • Playing with Fire: His main power.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: Potentially. There is a good chance that he actually figured out who's behind the mask -given how many clues were thrown his way in certain paths- but doesn't let it on.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: He is described as very good looking to the point it startles the MC.
  • Tall, Dark, and Snarky: He's a bit of a deadpan snarker at times.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He donates his ill-gotten gains to charity and uses it to help his district in general. Problem is that he's so convinced that the cause justifies the means that he doesn't care who he harms on the way.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Perks: Firebrand mentions he came to Caledon looking for a job where he could make use of the talents he was born with. He worked at a restaurant then.

    The King of Diamonds
Real Name: Desmond Lee

  • A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing: In his civilian guise he's regarded as a formidable and quite approachable businessman, who isn't above making his rounds through the casino's restaurant to have friendly chats with the patrons.
  • Bright Is Not Good: Or Light Is Not Good: His outfit is a white suit with white gloves and a diamond-patterned scarf.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: He runs several legal businesses in the city, most notable the Golden Eagle Casino. What would a good superhero story be without the mob boss hiding behind the mask of a legitimate businessman?
  • Electric Torture: Should he capture the MC, he will do this to them in an attempt to get information about the other villains.
  • I Own This Town: He's pretty much the King of Caledon City's underworld. That is until the M/Patriarch comes along. The sheer fact that they were able to put The King of Diamonds under their thumb, and how the underworld reacted to that (namely with fear) made it clear just how powerful either is.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: In his civilian guise, he's a respected and successful businessman.

    The Matriarch/Patriarch
Real Name: R.Bello or C.Rasmussen

  • Big Bad: They are ones behind the kidnapping of the MC's twin.
  • Light 'em Up: They wield light-based sorcery.
  • Light Is Not Good: Their outfit after their reveal is described as a robe of blinding white.
  • Mayor Pain: If the mayor turns out to be the Matriarch/Patriarch.
