Main Characters

    Jas

Jasmin

Species: Human

Pronouns: She/her, later they/them

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jas_78.png
Jas is a human from present-day Earth who was dissatisfied with life, jumping at the chance to leave with Khut upon being offered anything she wanted in exchange for freeing them.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Problems frequently arise as a result of her not paying attention to what’s around her and/or what Khut tries to tell her.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: It’s not entirely certain she’s short by human standards, but she’s smaller than several nonhuman characters and a major flaw of hers is how immature and demanding she can act.
  • Constantly Curious: When traveling alien worlds, Jas is intrigued by everything she sees, but tends to rush into things too quickly and doesn’t listen to Khut’s Info Dumps.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: In the first few chapters, Jas had realistic proportions and head shape, until around Chapter 7, she starts being drawn with a larger, cartoony bean-shaped head and her eyes are less narrow. She also gets rounder and seemingly shorter, though with Khut’s varying size it’s difficult to say.
  • Fish out of Water: Being a normal human, Jas is unaware of other planets’ norms.
  • Gayngst: One source of problems for her on Earth was her mother’s homophobia, which led to Jas leaving home when she wasn’t self-sufficient. Then shortly before meeting Khut, her girlfriend, Nina, broke up with her. Via text.
  • Last of Her Kind: After a solar flare devastated Earth, she’s the last living human unless others were abducted.
  • Only One Name: Her last name has not been stated.
  • Skewed Priorities: When she and Khut are first being chased down by the Taikese together, she demands Khut bring along her new scooter as they escape.
  • Trapped in Another World: Jas is cut off from Earth as a consequence of the portal she took closing behind her. With the planet’s surface scoured, she isn’t going back even if she could.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Being a fan of scifi, Jas takes time to adjust to the setting, such as how hazardous some planets can be to her biology and that an Interspecies Romance with Khut is not an option.

    Khut

Khut

Species: Unknown shapeshifter

Pronouns: They/them

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/khut.png
A powerful shapeshifter being pursued by the Taikese for their powers.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Khut doesn’t like any lip on the issue of their gender, or anyone else’s.
    • Digging into their past is also a quick way to anger them.
  • Brutal Honesty: Tactful they are not.Whenever Jas is feeling down on herself, Khut prefers to state facts than try to make her feel better.
  • Chaste Hero: Sex, or romance for that matter, aren’t things Khut can take any interest in.
  • Deuteragonist: Jas is the focal character, but she wouldn't have gotten far without Khut carrying her around.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Khut can eat puke, or absorb nutrients from the air, or photosynthesize if need be.
  • Living Ship: One of their forms is space-capable, and can produce a habitable space for Jas.
  • Minored in Ass-Kicking: Normally Khut doesn’t look for a fight, but when confronted by the Taikese or anyone else, they not only use their shapeshifting to great effect, they also have impressive reflexes to skillfully use enemy weapons. When relying on their shapeshifting, they can demolish a two-story combat robot with ease.
  • Morphic Resonance: All of Khut’s forms have a horn in the middle of their forehead, something which allows the Taikese to identify them. This is apparently something they can’t control.
  • Mx. Exposition: Whenever traveling to a new planet, Khut enjoys listing off features of its society and environment. Generally seems to have an encyclopedic knowledge of galactic civilization, though some of their information is outdated.
  • Nightmare Face: When angered, they can shift into a few different ones.
  • Non-Human Non-Binary: They're the current page image. Being a shapeshifter, Khut can take any appearance they choose and has no gender.
  • Omniglot: A fragment of Khut can translate any language psychically.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: At full power, Khut was able to destroy a continent on Taikos, altering the entire planet’s climate.
  • Really 700 Years Old: At least a thousand years old, and an ancient enemy of the Taikese.
  • Red Baron: As the Terror of Taikos, a monster that destroyed an entire continent.
  • Shapeshifter Baggage: Khut can control their mass during transformation, as well as their physical properties, something Kese notes should be physically impossible.
  • Shapeshifter Mode Lock: When drained by Taikese weapons, they become stuck for a few days as a small, pale bunny-like creature with floppy ears and their usual horn.
  • Truly Single Parent: If you consider Khudran to be their offspring, Khut can reproduce asexually by removing pieces of themselves for extended periods, so long as the piece has someone else to bond to.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Khut is capable of transforming into practically any organism, including altering their own physical properties.

    Sanna

Sanna

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sanna.png
A Zettian racer Jas and Khut meet, and who later ends up traveling with the other characters to race on different planets.

  • Dick Dastardly Stops to Cheat: Even when winning handily, Sanna resorts to underhanded tactics.
  • Rubber-Forehead Alien: All that distinguishes her from a human is different coloration, such as dark red skin and green hair.
  • Rules Lawyer: Has a tendency to use unscrupulous methods which aren’t technically cheating, but sure look like it.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Oftentimes doesn’t wear a shirt. Or a bra.

A Gak inventor Jas and Khut travel with after escaping from the Taikese squad. She employs Jas as a pilot for a set of armor she wants to sell, and is the owner of the Prosposis, a cloaked ship the main cast travel in.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She’s developed a number of impressive inventions, and is particularly skilled in the field of robotics.
  • My Greatest Failure: Some carelessness on her part led to reactivating Dizzy long after the latter was decommissioned, leading to the droid being exiled from her homeworld.
  • Robosexual: Her partner, Dizzy, is a droid from Yd.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: A genius engineer, and also much shorter than most other characters, coming up just shy of Jas’s shoulders.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: She and Khut can’t stand each other, finding each other’s motivations suspicious.

    Dizzy

Dizzy

Species: Ydian

Pronouns: She/her

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/character_card_dizzy_preview.png

  • Deadpan Snarker: Extremely deadpan. Even when making a snide comment, nothing about her tone or demeanor seem to change, and her face doesn’t change expressions.
  • The Exile: Was exiled from her home of Yd, due to being too old to be integrated with the droids’ modern system and not wanting to be decommissioned again.
  • Insistent Terminology: She’s a droid, not a robot, sapience being the distinction between the two.
  • No Social Skills: Dizzy doesn’t have much awareness of how to interact with others. Jas takes it in stride, Khut, who has their own issues socializing, is irritated by it.

  • Bond Creature: They’ve become this for Jas.
  • Creepy Good: While their appearance is generally pretty unsettling, they’re friendly with the heroes and act to protect Jas.
  • Empathic Weapon: The psychic link they have with Jas allows them to form into whatever shape she needs, making them particularly useful in fights.
  • Extra Eyes: A lot of extras, as many forms they take once awakened are covered in bright green eyes. Even their smallest, cutest form has at least three eyes visible at all times.
  • No Mouth: Kudran can form a mouth, but typically doesn’t. In its place are more eyes.

Species: Taikese

Pronouns: He/him

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vron.png
Commander of the team, Vron is a loyal soldier tasked with capturing Khut.
  • The Heavy: The pursuit by him and his team is the reason Khut needs to keep on the move, and he’s the most persistent antagonist in the story while not having much real authority.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Due to the stress of a seemingly hopeless assignment, Vron is almost always in a bad mood, and he makes no effort to hide this. Even his helmet looks unhappy.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: While still a major antagonist, the mission to capture Khut is simply Vron’s job, he isn’t doing it out of malice.
  • Reassigned to Antarctica: Vron’s current position tracking down Khut is a result of this, trying to keep him out of the way and busy on an impossible mission.
  • Uptown Girl: With his significant other, Addik, who has higher social standing.

  • Uptown Girl: She’s an apathetic soldier in a dead-end assignment, and also in a relationship with General Kagra, one of the most powerful people in Taikese society.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/malik.png

  • King Incognito: He’s a prince of Taikos, and avoided revealing so until it was necessary.
  • Nepotism: Malik’s family is wealthy, but he was assigned to the impossible task of hunting Khut to keep him safe and away from combat.
