Current Members

    Rane Quinn

Played By: Rusty Coones
Rank: Soldier
Years Active: ? - Present

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rane_quinn.jpg

The former President of the Nomad Charter and member of the Indian Hills of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club and current member of the Redwood Originals.

  • All Bikers are Hells Angels: He's played by Rusty Coones, President of the Orange County Hell's Angels.
  • Ascended Extra: Was The Ghost for the first four seasons, appeared in one episode in Season 5, and has appeared in all but two episodes of Season 6. Is this in universe as well, since he went from being a member of the Indian Hills charter to being in SAMCRO, the original charter.
  • The Big Guy: Towers over everyone else, with arms like tree trunks.
  • Demoted to Extra: In universe example: He went from being the president of the Nomads charter to being a low ranking member in Indian Hills, a chapter that's only been around for two years and was started via patch over.
  • The Ghost: Would be mentioned at least once every season for the first four seasons. Finally made a physical appearance in five, and was upgraded to a recurring character in season six. Since then he's appeared in practically every episode.
  • Large and in Charge: Quinn cuts a very imposing figure due to his size and muscle. He was previously in charge of the Nomads Chapter.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: A very affable one.
  • Sleeves Are for Wimps: Literally never wears them.

    Alesandro Montez

Played By: Jacob Vargas
Rank: Soldier
Years Active: ? - current

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/allesandro_montez.jpg

A former member of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club's Reno, NV chapter. Bobby Munson recently recruited him for SAMCRO.

  • Pintsized Powerhouse: The shortest of the Sons, but no slouch when it comes time to deliver an ass-whoopin'.

    Lenny "the Pimp" Janowitz

Played By: Sonny Barger
Rank: First 9 (former Sergeant-at-Arms)
Years Active: 1967 - Present

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lenny_janowitz.jpg
"I ain't got no more outside."

An imprisoned member of the club, convicted of murdering three ATF agents. He is a member of the First 9. His connections with the Russian mob help the club get in contact with Victor Putlova to discuss a deal to have the Russians hand over Jimmy O. to the Sons. He is currently the last member of the First 9 to still be alive.

  • All Bikers are Hells Angels: Played by Sonny Barger, founding member and real life first President of the Oakland Hells Angels.
  • Catchphrase: Not a personal one, but he came up with the term "crow eater" in reference to SAMCRO groupies.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Despite him being short and seemingly weak, he "allegedly" murdered 3 ATF agents. Justified in that he was apparently a bodybuilder in his youth, as seen below.
  • I Used To Be Quite A Looker: In his younger days Lenny was quite a hunk, gathering croweaters around (he invented the term, in fact) and turning his good looks and charisma into powerful tools to run a prostitution ring.
  • It Seemed Trivial: Reveals Otto’s betrayal inadvertently without even knowing about it himself and that Jax knows, clueing Clay into why Jax didn’t leave the club and Charming at the end of Season 4.
  • Last of His Kind: As of Clay's death, he is the last living member of the First 9.
  • Retired Outlaw: Due to being imprisoned.

Inactive or Retired Members

    Orlin West

Played By: Douglas Bennett
Rank: Soldier
Years Active: ? - 2014

A former member of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club's Reno, NV chapter. Bobby Munson recently recruited him for SAMCRO.

    "Big" Otto Delaney

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Delaney_Otto_2738.jpg
"The Sons live. Redwood bleeds."
Played By: Kurt Sutter
Rank: Soldier
Years Active: ? - 2012

The husband of Luann Delaney and an imprisoned club member.

  • Ascended Extra: Went from a cameo appearance to being one of the more capable members of the club despite being in prison.
  • Badass Biker: Though we never get to see the "biker" part due to his imprisonment.
  • Badass Boast: "The Sons live. Redwood bleeds."
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Otto doesn't always say anything unless it's important. He prefers to let his actions do the talking.
  • Butt-Monkey: Oh boy is he ever. Throughout the series Otto is beaten and maimed, both physically and emotionally, in countless ways.
  • Creator Cameo: Big Otto is played by Series Creator Kurt Sutter.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Especially as he's revealing to Bobby and Clay in the Season 3 finale that he's been sentenced to death row.
  • Despair Event Horizon: In Season 4 he lost an eye, his wife is dead, he is facing a death sentence or at least life in prison and then Potter leads him to believe that his club and friends have betrayed and abandoned him.
  • Driven to Suicide: He is going to let the state do it for him. He will not appeal his death sentence and wants his execution date pushed forward
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Using a shank given to him by Clay, Otto taunts Toric (the man who has been making his life a living hell for weeks) into attacking him by writing "Your sister's blood tasted almost as good as her pussy." When an enraged Toric starts strangling Otto, Otto shanks him repeatedly and then holds the blade to Toric's throat. Once the two guards arrive, Otto cuts Toric's throat from ear to ear before being shot dead by the guards.
  • Eyepatch of Power: "10% vision" does little to prevent him from being a help to SAMCRO.
  • Eye Scream: Loses his right eye in Season 2, courtesy of the Aryan Brotherhood.
  • A Fate Worse Than Death: Courtesy of Lee Toric. Even though he's kept in solitary confinement he's subjected to daily beatings and rapes.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Badass scar over his left eye.
  • Heartbroken Badass: After Luann's death.
  • Suicide by Cop: Knows full well what he's doing when he shanks Toric. Holding the bleeding and weak Toric hostage with the shiv against his throat, he waits until armed guards arrive, then immediately opens up Toric's throat. The guards oblige him shortly after.
  • Taking You with Me: His last act of defiance involved slitting Toric's throat open and then getting killed by the guards.
  • Tongue Trauma: Otto bites his own tongue off in the Season 5 finale to show he won't speak against the Club.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Otto's life as seen in the show is a seemingly unending torrent of misery, bad luck, betrayal and pain of every kind.
  • Turn Coat: After Lincoln Potter convinces him that Bobby and the club have betrayed him, he agrees to testify against them. In season 5 Tara convinces him to recant.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He beats Stahl's face against a table after faking being a turncoat.
  • Zipping Up the Bodybag: We see Otto's face just before the bag is zipped up, and then we see him being wheeled away as Toric's body is photographed as part of a crime scene.

    "Filthy" Phil Russell

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/russell_phillip_2349.jpg
"I like cereal."
Played By: Christopher Reed
Rank: Soldier
Years Active: 2010 - 2013

Originally a prospective member, he is patched in while the main members are in prison.

  • Ascended Fanboy: After the death of Half-Sack.
  • Big Fun
  • Boom, Headshot!: Courtesy of Galen.
  • Butt-Monkey: Even after being patched in, he tends to get stuck with babysitting jobs when not being framed by Juice. And now he's dead, and even his body isn't left in peace. Galen mutilates him.
  • Gentle Giant: He's by far the biggest member of SAMCRO (bigger than Piney actually) and arguably the nicest.
  • Mauve Shirt: Goodnight, sweet breakfast prince.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: Especially due to his size.

    Herman Kozik

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Kozik_Herman_6576.jpg
"I know. I'm not expecting you to be OK with this. I can be an asset to the charter. I'm just asking you to give me a chance."
Played By: Kenny Johnson
Rank: Soldier
Years Active: ? - 2011

A member of the Tacoma chapter who moves to Charming. He has a history with Tig.

  • Badass Biker: Throwing down with Tig to a standstill certainly qualifies. Also emphasized in "Dorylus" when he successfully helps thwart a plot to steal SAMCRO's guns.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He dished out as much snark as he took from Tig, even getting sassy with other Sons.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: Gets blown to bits by a land mine. We never discover the full story between him and Tig, there's very little resolution to his character and since his death he's rarely mentioned.
  • The Rival: To Tig.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Again, with Tig. Tig made it his personal mission to veto any vote to bring Kozik in as a member of SAMCRO. Eventually the feud died down and they were civil again, but Tig still can't bring himself to agree to vote him in (but had no problem with it being done while he was incarcerated).
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Tig, before their feud and after it dies down.

    John Thomas "JT" Teller

John Teller

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/teller_john_3205.jpg
"On the fringe, blood and bullets are the rule of law and if you're a man with convictions violence is inevitable."
Rank: First 9
Years Active: 1967 - 1993

"I know my days are numbered Mo, and when these letters stop you can be certain my death will come at the hands of my wife and best friend. At least my sweet Thomas will never suffer my life. I miss him so much. I only pray that Jackson finds a different path. He already reminds me so much of myself."

THE founding member of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, John Teller is long dead at the beginning of the series. Having died under seemingly normal circumstances for an outlaw biker, his death and legacy rear their head at the beginning of the series when his son Jackson finds a manuscript left by him in the family storage unit…

  • Anarchy Is Chaos: Averted, as John appears to have been and organized the original club along optimistic anarchist lines, evidenced by his deep love for the Emma Goldman quote. Out of all the show's cast he appears to be the only actual anarchist (or rather a libertarian, at least according to the principles of the philosophy) rather than a mere outlaw.
  • Death Seeker: He realized very quickly that Gemma and Clay were planning to kill him, but didn't bother to defend himself. He just let it happen.
  • Expy: Of Hamlet's Father with the journal playing the role of his ghost.
  • Knight in Sour Armour: According to Gemma, he became this after Thomas died and he watched the club transform into something much darker than his original vision.
  • Odd Friendship: Shared one with Kellan Ashby, an Irish Catholic priest, through their mutual connection to the IRA. It eventually led to a romantic relationship between John and Maureen Ashby, Kellan's sister and the birth of Kellan's niece Trinity.
  • Posthumous Character: He's long-dead by the start of the series.
  • Properly Paranoid: He believed that Clay would try to kill him. He was very right.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Strongly implied; his drive to get the club out of guns and back towards its anarchist roots would result in his death.
  • Warrior Poet: Before Jax, there was another badass biker who was journaling, as Tara would put it.

Prospects

    Chris 'V-Lin' Von Leen

Played By: Walter Wong
Rank: Prospect
Years Active: 2011 - 2013

    Shepard

Played By: Leo Fitzpatrick
Rank: Prospect (former)
Years Active: 2010

  • Dirty Coward: Does nothing to stop Hector Salazar from vandalizing Lumpy's as well as beating up Lumpy, despite having a gun which would at least give him a fighting chance.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Leaves behind his cut and his pistol and hightails it out of dodge after failing his first serious test.

Excommunicated Members

    Frankie Diamonds

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/FrankieDiamonds_1634.jpg
Played By: Chuck Zito
Rank: Soldier
Years Active: ? - 2012

A New York Nomad who comes to Charming and is voted into the club when the Nomad charter closes.

  • All Bikers are Hells Angels: Zito, like Sonny Barger, David LaBrava and Rusty Coones, is a member of the Hell's Angels in real life.
  • Badass Biker: Subverted; you wouldn't think so with him being played by a real life Hells Angel, but Frankie eventually reveals himself to be nothing more than a greedy murderous coward.
  • Boom, Headshot!: courtesy of Leo Pirelli
  • The Dragon: He's secretly working with Clay to depose Jax, but Frankie is eventually discovered and turns against his former boss. It doesn't save him.
  • Only in It for the Money He's offered a piece of Clay's end in guns and drugs once he regains control of SAMCRO from Jax.
  • The Mafia: He has ties to it as a former muscle to the Gambino crime family.
  • Porn Stache: He has a strangely shaped mustache-beard combo.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Justified, he's a former Nomad that has joined SAMCRO after the charter folded. Subverted with the reveal that he and the other Nomads were hired by Clay to help him take SAMCRO back from Jax.
  • Sleeves Are for Wimps
  • Tattooed Crook: Like Chuck Zito, Frankie has his share of tattoos.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He shoots Opie's wife Lyla in the leg.

    GoGo

Played By: Chris Browning
Rank: Soldier
Years Active: ? - 2012

A Nomad who comes to Charming and is voted into the club when the Nomad charter closes.

    Greg the Peg

Played By: Kurt Yaeger
Rank: Soldier
Years Active: ? - 2012

A Nomad who is missing a leg.

    Eric Miles

Played By: Frank Potter
Rank: Soldier (formerly Prospect; posthumously excommunicated)
Years Active: 2010 - 2011

A prospect introduced in Season 3 that gets patched into the club while the majority of the club is in prison.

  • Ascended Fanboy: Mentioned by Opie at the beginning of season 3 to be a hang-around. By the season 4 premiere he has a full patch.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Courtesy of Juice.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Comes off as a bit of a goof but definitely more competent than some of the other prospects in Season 3. Come Season 4, he holds his own against Juice after discovering him stealing cocaine from the Sons' warehouse, and almost overpowers him. If only he hadn't dropped his gun...

    Kyle Hobart

Played By: Brian Van Holt
Rank: Soldier
Years Active: 1997 - 2003

A member who was excommunicated from the club after abandoning Opie during an arson job, leading to Opie's five-year incarceration.

  • Asshole Victim: A seemingly non-fatal example.
  • Dirty Coward: He abandoned Opie during an arson job, avoiding the police but leaving Opie to face a five-year imprisonment that took a massive toll on him.
  • Jerkass: Kyle is a basic asshole, showing token remorse for abandoning Opie and is even willing to miss his son's band performance to make a half-baked deal with SAMCRO.
  • Tattooed Crook: He had the club colors on his back, similar to Jax and Opie. Unbeknownst to the club, Kyle never had his removed or blacked out after being excommunicated and accidentally reveals it while back in Charming. This leads to the iconic scene where it's burned off via blowtorch and tequila.
