Howard Wright

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skjermbilde_2022_03_31_190044.png
A 18-year old American boy who is living and studying in Japan. He is invited to the village by a mysterious e-mail from Sam Monroe.
  • Action Survivor: He's a pretty standard slightly rebellious teenager and fits the description of the trope to a T, sans the stubble.
  • The Chosen One: Miyako marks him as one, and Seigo pretty much calls him this.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: He tries to keep Bella from seeing Saiga's vivisection of a Shibito. Unfortunately, she runs past him and ends up fainting from the sight.
  • Expy: A pretty direct one of Kyoya, as opposed to most of the other cast, who each share traits with multiple characters from the original game. The only other character he shares traits from is Tamon Takeuchi in his fifth mission as he has to take out a sniper after it hits Miyako (Yoriko in the original) but otherwise, mostly Kyoya.

Melissa Gale

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skjermbilde_2022_03_31_190128.png
The divorced wife of Sam Monroe, mother of Bella Monroe, and the presenter of the TV crew that comes to Hanuda to investigate the legend of the vanished village.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: Her fate in the proper Stable Time Loop is to become a Maggot Shibito.
  • Composite Character: A combination of Reiko, Mrs. Maeda and Naoko.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Is not particulary friendly with her ex-husband initially especially when he brings their daughter to Hanuda, but this all changes when they have a lead to finding their daughter, referring to his optimism fondly.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Just like Reiko of Siren 1, Melissa sacrifices herself twice to save her daughter, once as a human, and again as a Maggot Shibito.
  • Mama Bear: Being the sole survivor of her family in the first time loop, she still stays by her shibitofied daughter's and husband's side and is willing to kill anyone that comes between them.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to her ex-husband Sam's blue.

Sam Monroe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skjermbilde_2022_03_31_190404.png
The divorced husband of Melissa Gale and father of Bella Monroe. He is a professor of folklore and comes to Hanuda with the TV crew to serve as their expert on the subject.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: His fate before Amana loops the timeline around is to become a Spider Shibito.
  • Badass Bookworm: His look and job suggests this, and it helps that he willing to do anything to protect his family.
  • Composite Character: A combination of Tamon and Mr. Maeda.
  • Papa Wolf: Considering he's willing to doom the whole cast into a Stable Time Loop so that his daughter "can exist forever"...
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to his ex-wife Melissa's red.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In the second-to-last mission of the game, Sam incapacitates Maggot Shibito Melissa by throwing antennae at her, causing her to get struck by lightning when she climbs high enough on a nearby watchtower. Not only that, but Sam takes up a shotgun and blasts away every single Spider Shibito, including Sol, just to protect Bella from them. And when you consider how Spider Shibito are the quickest to recover, he held out pretty damn well.

Bella Monroe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skjermbilde_2022_03_31_190114.png
The young daughter of Sam Monroe and Melissa Gale. Sam brings her along to their trip to Hanuda, much to Melissa's horror.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: Her fate before Amana loops the timeline is to become a Brain Shibito.
  • Butt-Monkey: Man, this poor kid goes through the wringer in each timeline.
  • Catchphrase: Her recurring cries of "no, no, no!" may as well be.
  • Composite Character: A combination Harumi and Tomoko. And Hisako, once she grows up...
  • Death of a Child: She is killed by a large falling log thrown by an off-screen Maggot Shibito, and reanimates as a Shibito.
  • Nightmare Face: She eventually becomes a Brain Shibito in the first time loop, where her face appears very much like the base of a bug.
  • Perky Goth: Word of God has it that she's growing into one, as evidenced by her taste in notebooks and interest in things like cool bugs.

Sol Jackson

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skjermbilde_2022_03_31_190524.png
The cameraman of the TV crew documenting the mysteries of Hanuda.
  • Black Guy Dies First: Twice. And the second time Sam, who is in the very same situation that kills Sol, survives with no explanation.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In the first timeline he dies fighting a Shibito after telling Bella to run and hide.
  • Improbable Weapon User: After he finds his camera again he can use it to fight. It's slow and has little range, but it hits hard and has unique finishers.
  • Nice Guy: A friendly person who tries to be a peacemaker between Sam and Melissa.
  • Scary Black Man: After becoming a shibito.
  • Stalker with a Crush: He writes fanfiction about him and Melissa.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: He is killed off rather quickly in both timelines, and only has one episode dedicated to himself and Sam Monroe.

Seigo Saiga

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skjermbilde_2022_03_31_191147.png
The resident doctor who owns the Saiga Clinic in Hanuda.
  • Ate His Gun: As with Akira from the first game, and with just about as much effect. He does get the time reversal to bring him back, though.
  • Badass Normal: He's armed with a shotgun that he snipes with. His introductory cutscene has him calmly blasting away at a group of shibito, including a police officer one, who hides behind a door to protect himself. Unfortunately, Seigo blows off its hinges and beats it at a quick-draw. Really, he's easily THE most badass character in the entire game.
  • Composite Character: Poor Seigo's probably got it the worst out of the Blood Curse cast, having to cover the roles of Akira, Shiro and Jun, with a little bit of Kei thrown in.
  • Driven to Suicide: During the first time loop.
  • Enigmatic Minion: Was about to sacrifice Miyako, but when she escapes, he lets her go, and proceeds to help out the strangers that suddenly showed up. By the second time loop he's actively working against Kaiko and Amana for his own reasons.
  • Hidden Depths: At first glance he comes off as nothing but a sociopathic nihilist (combination of Shiro and Akira), but when you realize he does care for Yukie, his demeanor is more understandable.
  • Morality Pet: His associate and nurse Yukie was meant to be this, but then came the ceremony and they needed a sacrifice of a 24-year-old woman, and well...
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Although he felt compelled by his position as the head of the Saiga family to sacrifice Miyako and Yukie, after sacrificing Yukie and having the ritual fall apart thanks to Howard's interference, he seems to become sick of the whole thing.
  • Perpetual Expression: His eyebrows don't seem to ever move from the somewhat serious, somewhat smug expression they give.
  • Screw Destiny: In the second time loop he decides to give this a shot.
  • Thanatos Gambit: Attacks Howard to provoke him into activating the Uryen for the first time. (He'd have preferred to be the hero himself, but he didn't have enough of Miyako's blood in his veins to use the power of the gods properly).
  • You Can't Fight Fate: He spends the first time loop believing this, going to far as let Miyako go because he's certain she'll be sacrificed somehow no matter what. In the second time loop, spurred on by his vague memories of the first, he decides to give fighting fate a shot...instead of giving himself one.

Amana

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skjermbilde_2022_03_31_190223.png
A mysterious woman who helps Howard out early on despite her presence at the ritual he interrupted.
  • Amnesiac Dissonance: Like Hisako Yao, her personality and memory began to drift over time. In this case her memory is restored, as it probably has been numerous times, when she reads the inscription on the back of her brooch ("WAKE UP").
  • Nice Girl: Offers to help Howard to safety, though isn't able to do much after being captured by a shibito. Once her memory returns, however, she becomes colder and malicious.
  • Really 700 Years Old: She ate the god hundreds of years ago, and looks like she's in her twenties.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: She was once a little girl called Bella Monroe, but after a traumatic trip to the village, being thrown back hundreds of years in the past, and finally undergoing a curse of immortality, she becomes Amana.

    Antagonists

Kaiko

  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Resembles a cluster of assorted insect appendages, constantly re-arranging itself
  • Expy: Of Datasushi, serving exactly the role as in the original game, providing the same actions to boot. Then again, this could be because Datasushi didn't have much screentime in the original until the climax, as the whole point was resurrecting him in the first place.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Amana simply wants to resurrect him.

    Others

Miyako

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skjermbilde_2022_03_31_191515.png
A girl saved by Howard from a ritual sacrifice. She tags along with him in hope of getting out of Hanuda.
  • Ambiguously Human: Miyako has a direct blood tie to the old gods from the Other World whom Hanuda once revered (Word of God specifically namechecks the Cthulhu Mythos), and whose worship was driven out by Kaiko-based Manaism.
  • Cool Sword: The Homuranagi is a family heirloom.
  • Expy: Of Miyako Kajiro from the first game. Though she's not blind this time around.
  • Killed Off for Real: Just like the original Miyako, she is sacrificed and thus killed in the second time loop.
  • Last of Her Kind: The Manaists alternated between using her bloodline as sacrifices or revering them. Miyako seems to be the last one left.
  • Legacy Character: It is strongly implied that she is the Miyako from the 1970s as opposed to the Miyako from 2000s, which would explain why she is not blind or particularly like the latter in personality.
  • Mystical Waif: Her characterization in Blood Curse is closer to the archetype than it is in the original game.
