SMOK

The protagonists, united to band against the Demon Lord.

    In general
  • Amazon Brigade: With the possible exception of the protagonist, they're all girls.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: They loot the places they visit with regularity. A farmer in the desert calls them out on it.

    The protagonist
The main character, an office boss reincarnated after dying to a lethal ingestion of silica gel.
  • And There Was Much Rejoicing: When Calliope lets them hear of their coworker's reactions to their death, laughs can be heard in the game soundtrack while the company's president laments the bad reputation they brought to it and the workers cheer in the bar when they hear the news.
  • Developer's Foresight: If given the name of another character, they will be called "[name] #2".
  • Heel–Face Reincarnation: After spending their past life as a jerk, they become a heroic character committed to ending the Demon Lord's threat.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: Their name is input by the player when asked for it while applying to be reincarnated.
  • This Looks Like a Job for Aquaman: At the very end of the game, the Final Boss,Leviathan, has an ability that allows him to come back stronger if the damage he receives surpasses his remaining HP. Being already in his third form, he has become nigh unbeatable, and with only 6 HP remaining, it's virtually guaranteed he will ascend to a fourth form and bring about the end. Unless, of course, someone with pitiful attack just happens to be nearby to end his threat.
  • Loser Protagonist: Has very basic abilities that deal little damage, has pitiful stats that make them incapable of having any useful class and is incapable of rising above level 1, not even with divine help.
  • Mean Boss: Fires a worker for a minor mistake at the start of the game and subtly mocks him when he begs to keep his job. They also consider themselves the only competent individual in the office, and aim to achieve the spot of director.
  • Supporting Leader: Their job in the party is to guide the others to ensure they use the abilities the dice allow them to, and to skip a turn if it would be more convenient.
  • The One Guy: If playing as a male character.
  • Too Dumb to Live: When faced with silica gel with a note reading "Do not eat", the protagonist, of course, eats it.

    Ookami Mio
The party's sage.
  • An Ice Person: Can cast the "Freeze" spell, which does this.
  • Holy Hand Grenade: Can cast the "Goddess' Judgment" spell, which does this.
  • Jerkass to One: She's normally a kind and supporting party member, but is probably the meanest to Subaru out of everybody.
  • Playing with Fire: Can cast the "Incinerate" spell, which does this.
  • Shock and Awe: Can cast the "Thunder" spell, which does this.
  • Team Mom: Serves as a mother figure to everyone in the group other than Subaru.
  • White Mage: As a sage, she provides healing magic to the party.

    Inugami Korone
The party's berserker.

    Nekomata Okayu
The party's dark mage.
  • Black Mage: Her spells focus on dealing massive damage and manipulating the enemies in various ways.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Despite being a dark mage and having many darkness-themed powers, she firmly opposes the Demon Lord.
  • Fourth-Wall Observer: Is aware of game mechanics and often comments on them. This is most notable just after the Demon Lord's awakening and recruitment of his Co-Dragons, where she tells everyone to get ready for the impending boss fight before the ominous music switches back to generic background music, at which point she declares false alarm.
  • Genre Savvy: Knows many of the usual tropes of the genre, and often comments on them.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: During the final confrontation against the Demon Lord, she's the first to assume he's a Sequential Boss that just needs to be beaten enough times instead of him having to be killed in a specific way.

    Oozora Subaru
The party's duck (formerly master swordsman).
  • Butt-Monkey: Is the unwilling target of many jokes.
  • Master Swordsman: While it's no longer her class, she still demonstrates impressive skill with her blade.
  • Pokémon Speak: Can speak only using the shubaaa sound, but can also imitate other noisesnote  and acquires the ability to speak in emojis later.

The Demon Lord and his forces

    In general

    The Demon lord Unmarked Spoilers
The Demon Lord, who will awaken and destroy the world.
  • Big Bad: Of the game as a whole.
  • Big "WHAT?!": His response to being informed that, despite being the leader of the heroes' party, the protagonist is a mere level 1 hero.
  • Bring It: Regularly encourages opponents that were already planning to fight him, although this comes with the knowledge that if he loses he'll just ascend to a more powerful form. He even says the trope title literally to the Royal Knights.
  • Came Back Strong: Thanks to the Curse of the Immortal, every time he gets killed by an inexact amount of damage, he comes back in a significantly stronger form.
Ooohh! I can feel 10 times more power than before. Not a bad feeling at all.
Hmph! Do you think you're the only one who can summon reinforcements?
  • Evil Gloating: Does this constantly, especially when confronted by the heroes.
  • Evil Is Hammy: Absolutely drips hamsauce with every one of his lines.
  • Final Boss: The final enemy faced in the game.
  • Flunky Boss: In his first true form, he summons two Black Knights that fight on his side.
  • Laughing Mad: After the Knights make him achieve his third form, he does this right after thanking them.
  • LOL, 69: Possibly unintentional, but defeating his first true form gives the party 69000 EXP. Not that it helps them in any way, since it's the last time the fight anything in the game.
  • Meta Twist: While many players may think that his Sequential Boss nature follows the standard "defeat each form till the last" nature the heroes assume, in truth it's him becoming stronger every time he's killed.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Plans to destroy the world.
  • Physical God: According to him, a fourth form of him, which he outright calls godhood, would have been unstoppable by anything in the world, which would have allowed him to lay waste to it with ease.
  • Sequential Boss: First you must face him while he's possessing Sakura Miko, then you must do so in his true form. After beating him, he'll ascend to his second form, at which point the Knights will take over. After that, he ascends to his third form, which is nigh unbeatable. As a bit of a subversion of the concept of boss forms, it turns out this does not happen because he gets beaten but rather because it has to occur with exact numbers.
  • Smug Super: He's very smug, openly mocking his enemies's attempts to oppose him. This is already blatant when in his true form, where his dialogue more than compensates for his lack of a recognizable facial expression, but is seen most prominently when possessing Sakura Miko, making her reach the very limits of how smug an anime-style Retraux computer drawing can smile. He is also extremely powerful, requiring nothing less than trickery, unholy food, the world's most powerful heroes working together and sheer luck to beat.
  • Underestimating Badassery:
    • In his second form, he accuses the Royal Knights of this. Turns out he's the one doing this, as they beat him in four moves total without him even having the chance of doing anything.
    • Inverted towards the protagonist, who he wrongfully assumes follows Authority Equals Asskicking and therefore shouldn't be able to deal the exact amount of damage needed to kill him for good.
  • Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: While most of the game is a lighthearted Affectionate Parody of both hololive and the Eastern RPG genre, Leviathan the Demon Lord is a powerful demon that not only possesses Miko's body who uses her as a Human Shield, but also is a spiteful jerk that wants to Take Over the World and regularly insults the heroes in his Evil Gloating.
  • Villainous Breakdown: When he realizes the protagonist's going to end him for good, he immediately drops his Smug Super behavior and starts begging for a timeout.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Assumes the protagonist must be too strong since they're the leader of the heroes' party. In truth, they're a Supporting Leader perpetually stuck at level 1.
  • Xanatos Gambit: If he defeats you, you die. If you defeat him, it's almost certain he comes back stronger.
  • Zero-Effort Boss: In his third form, he only has 6 hit points left. The dice in the fight are scripted so that the first one will always allow the protagonist to attack with their 6 damage attack.

The Admins

    In general

    Baalzebul
  • Canon Foreigner: Is not related to hololive in any way.
  • The Heavy: The first Admin seen in the story, and the one that most often opposes the heroes before the finale.

    Tokoyami Towa
  • Affably Evil: Towa is always friendly towards SMOK, even apologizing before her Boss Battle.
  • Ascended Demon: Rejects her devilish nature and opposes the Demon Lord towards the finale.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Poses as an innocent bystander that needs help to trick the heroes into getting captured.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: Despite her willingness to do evil, she's too softhearted to actually follow through with anything beyond misdirections. This helps SMOK convince her to join them.

    Amane Kanata
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Can first be seen in Heaven, asking souls for their documents.
  • Fallen Angel: She's first seen in Heaven, but later appears to have been fired and is now working for the Demon Lord. However, this was merely a ruse. She was in fact a spy sent by Sora the whole time, and apologizes to the heroes for pretending.
  • The Mole: Pretends to be a loyal servant of the Demon Lord, but is actually this for Sora. Notably, she sabotaged his ritual so it could be reversed at any time.

    Usada Pekora
  • Blatant Lies: Nobody except Moona believes that she was a spy all along.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: Feels "a little bit" bad about her collaboration with the Demon Lord, but still betrayed him for pragmatic reasons.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After Kanata and Towa defect to the good side, she declares that she, too, was Good All Along. The heroes, naturally, don't believe her but still accept her help.
  • Signature Laugh: Keeps the laugh from hololive.
  • Smart People Build Robots: Her section of the Demon Lord's Castle is guarded by robots.

Usada Constructions

    Moona Hoshinova

    The Robots
  • Killer Robot: Aside from their respective functions, they can all fight the party.
  • Left the Background Music On: One of the robots was playing the level's BGM on the piano, which stops immediately once the former gets up to fight the heroes.

The Afterlife

    Tokino Sora
The top goddess of Heaven, she sents the protagonist to another world to help defeat the awakening of the Demon Lord.
  • Big Good: The force behind SMOK and their efforts to stop the Demon Lord.
  • The Chessmaster: Sent Kanata as a Fake Defector so she could join the Demon Lord and sabotage his plans.
  • Don't Call Me "Sir": When the protagonist refers to her as "Goddess Sora", she tells them there's no need to be so formal and they should just call her Sora-chan.
  • God Is Good: A benevolent deity that opposes the Demon Lord.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Agrees to reincarnate the protagonist's condemned soul to help stop the Demon Lord.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Her head can sometimes be seen popping out from places. If interacted with, she remarks that she was caught and teleports away. This is a reference to the real Sora's habit of stalking her kouhais in Minecraft.

    Natsuiro Matsuri
The goddess of Chaos, tasked with sending souls tol be reincarnated.
  • The Cavalry: Teleports the entire cast to the Demon Lord's Castle once the final battle starts.
  • Catchphrase: "I AM GOD", said both when retorting to Calli and when Miko fails to recognize her.
  • God of Chaos: Is this.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When she asks the protagonist how the world decides wether a skill hits, and they answer a random number, she asks if they think they're in a game.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: When Calli protests her blatant reassignment of a soul condemned to hell, her answer is a simple "Who cares?".

    Mori Calliope
A Grim Reaper tasked with judging all souls in the Afterlife Antechamber.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": To the protagonist, who's attempting to argue that they were poisoned by Kurosawa (even though he left a note specifically asking people not to eat the silica gel).
Calliope: Shut up! I don't care! It doesn't matter!
  • Deadpan Snarker: After playing the reactions of the protagonist's subordinates, she adds a dry remark.
    Calliope: You sure are "popular".
  • Judgement of the Dead: Judges the souls of the recently departed and determines to which afterlife they'll go to.
  • Suddenly Shouting: When she meets the protagonist again after their second death.
Calliope: Welcome to the afterlife, wandering soul. I'm... Wait, it's you!!!
  • Super Gullible: Believes the protagonist's lies about "a mysterious chicken trying to invade this alternate dimension" for long enough to get distracted, allowing the protagonist's escape.
