"Playerland"

"Playerland" was the name the game used for the Bannerlord's clan during the tutorial in its beta period. At game start it consists of the player, their dead parents, their older brother, their younger sister, and their younger brother (the last three only appear in Campaign mode and not Sandbox mode). Their default symbol is a stag head on a brown background.

    In General 
  • Badass Family: Eventually, between the hired members and good training of the Bannerlord's siblings and children, the clan will become this. Even at the beginning when it's just the Bannerlord and their brother, the two are formidable opponents to the starter bandits.
  • Brother–Sister Team: At the start of the campaign if the Bannerlord is female, she forms this with the Older Brother.
  • The Clan: Obviously
  • Sibling Team: The Campaign is about the Bannerlord and the Older Brother (and a bunch of Hired Guns) forming this to deal with the bandits who killed their parents. After dealing with Radagos however, the Older Brother leaves to find the other siblings, while the Bannerlord begins investigating the plot.
  • Theme Naming: The default names of the initial NPC family members are this. The father will always have a name beginning with "B", the mother will always have a name beginning with "T", the older brother will always have a name beginning with "N" and will usually end with "N" as well, the younger brother's name will begin with "F", and the sister's name will begin with "A." Averted with the Bannerlord themselves, who can have whatever name the player feels like, and the other members of the clan, including the above family members, can have their names changed in the clan screen.

    The Bannerlord 
The protagonist of the game, the Bannerlord was the victim of a bandit attack that saw their parents killed and their younger siblings kidnapped. With their older brother, they embark on a journey that will have unforeseen consequences for Calradia.
  • The Ace: Thanks to game mechanics, the Bannerlord can build every skill towards its final perk.
  • Action Girl: If you choose to play as female.
  • Action Dad or Action Mom: If the Bannerlord gets married and has children, they become this. Since the game has no maternity leave, a female Bannerlord will also be a Pregnant Badass before she gives birth.
  • Action Survivor: Survives a bandit attack that leads to them discovering the Dragon Banner of Calradios himself.
  • Amazon Chaser: If a male Bannerlord marries a female noble whose coded to be an army leader and has high weapon skills like Ira or Arwa.
  • Anti-Hero: There's no karma meter, but the Grey-and-Gray Morality of the setting encourage this.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: If you choose to forge your own kingdom instead of swearing allegiance to one of the existing factions.
  • The Chosen One: Arzagos sees the Bannerlord as this if they choose an anti-Imperial course. Istiana will use her connections to invoke this for a pro-Imperial Bannerlord, but doesn't believe it herself.
  • Cultural Rebel: If you choose to swear allegiance to a faction other than the one (or three, for Imperials) that matches your culture. This is especially pronounced if you play an Imperial who agrees with Arzagos.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: From the point of view of the bandits and any factions that get in the Bannerlord's way.
  • Guile Hero: If you invest in the Cunning and Intelligence skills.
  • Master Archer: If you invest enough in Archery and buy or loot a decent bow and good arrows.
  • Multi-Melee Master: By investing enough into One-Handed, Two-Handed, and Polearms. Even investing in just one of these skills brings access to a wide range of weaponry.
  • Multiple-Choice Past: Everything from their ethnicity and sex to how exactly they survived the bandit attack can be determined by the player.
  • Rags to Riches: The Bannerlord can begin the game the child of a serf or freed slave and end it monarch of all Calradia.
  • Red Baron: The Bannerlord.
  • Statuesque Stunner: If you make a female Bannerlord, make her attractive, and set her height to maximum.
  • Ultimate Blacksmith: If you max out your Smithing skill.

    The Parents 
The Bannerlord's parents, they were killed in a bandit attack in 1084.

    The Older Brother 
The Bannerlord's older brother, he joins with them in the tutorial battles, then leaves to find the younger siblings, leaving the job of rebuilding the Clan and investigating Neretzes's Folly to the Bannerlord.
  • Canon Name: He has six default names, one for each culture - Nathanos (Empire), Nogand (Vlandians), Nozhon (Sturgians), Najun (Aserai), Nusun (Khuzaits), and Niasen (Battanians).
  • Good with Numbers: His best skill is stewardship, making him a good Quartermaster when you reunite with him.
  • Out of Focus: After the clan rebuilding quest is done, his role in the actual plot of the game more or less ends and Arzagos and Istania take center stage.
  • The Worf Effect: He has impressively high skills. He is still captured by the bandits he sets out to fight.

The Conspiracy

The Conspiracy is actually two competing forces formed by members of Neretzes's court. Arzagos, his old bodyguard, wishes to destroy the Empire in retaliation for the destruction of the Palaic people centuries ago, while Istania, Neretzes's unofficial spymaster, wishes to end the civil war and restore the Empire to grandeur. The Conspiracy has its own unique troops, and in the Campaign they will help or hinder the Bannerlord depending on your choices. The Conspiracy does not appear in Sandbox mode.

    Arzagos 
Arzagos was the bodyguard of Emperor Neretzes. After the Battle of Pendraic, he wandered to Marunath and became convinced the Empire needed to be destroyed in revenge for the destruction of his own people, the Palaics.
  • The Chessmaster: For an ex-bodyguard slumming in Marunath Arzagos is surprisingly well connected, hiring bandits and smugglers to subvert Imperial power.
  • Cultural Rebel: How everyone else and even the game itself see him, an Empire-cultured character trying to bring down the Empire.
  • Gone Horribly Right: It can be inferred that the Bannerlord canonically sided with Arzagos and destroyed the Empire - which means that the two are responsible for the situation seen in Warband, where Calradia, without the Empire as a stabilizing influence, is locked in a Forever War, the Battanians seem to have been largely eliminated as a culture like the Palaics were, and half the people the Warband PC speaks with will be filled an immense amount of nostalgia for the Calradian Empire (with restoring the Empire even being Warband's implied goal).
  • Last of His Kind: He's the only character who admits to being Palaic, a people so obliterated by the Calradians that even their actual name has been forgotten.

    Istania 
Istania was Neretzes's (unofficial) spymaster. After his death she retired to Epicrotea, where she plots to see the Empire restored.
  • Character Narrator: She narrates the cinematic that plays when a new game starts, giving a brief history of the decline of the Calradian Empire.
  • The Chessmaster: She keeps tabs on everything that happens in the Empire and beyond, and if you side with Arzagos she will bring her influence to bear to destroy you.
  • Doomed by Canon: Given that the Calradian Empire is seemingly gone by 1254, it can be presumed that her plans failed and Arzagos's succeeded.
  • My Greatest Failure: In her opinion, not poisoning Neretzes when she had the chance.
  • The Spymaster: She was unofficially this for Neretzes (due to women not being allowed to hold the position officially) and will effectively serve as one for a pro-Imperial Bannerlord.

Wanderers

Wanderers are figures unattached to any clan who frequent taverns looking for work. They are Spiritual Successors to the companions from Warband, but are randomly generated and don't start with premade rivalries or friendships. Once hired they become members of the Playerland Clan.
