Height: 187cm
Zodiac Sign: Leo
Birthday: August 15th
Flower: Iris
Color: Gold
One of the love interests. While his identity and personality may vary across The Multiverse, Lars tends to be a man of great power who uses his playful demeanor to hide a more serious and calculating side.
    General tropes
  • Animal Motif: Big carnivores such as lion, tiger and occasionally wolf.
  • The Gadfly: He has a tendency to tease the MC in every world and enjoys getting a reaction out of her, which isn’t helped by her being a Tsundere towards him. His target isn’t limited to the MC, however:
    • In Azure Summer, he messes around with Clyde for competing for the MC’s attention with him by not buying him ice cream and leading the boy to an adult-only water slide – essentially telling Clyde that he doesn’t stand a chance.
  • King of Beasts: His most prevalent Animal Motif is lion.
  • Large and in Charge: He’s the tallest and most muscular of the male leads, which gives him an imposing presence. Fittingly, he and his counterparts have a high rate of being the one in charge, from being a CEO to an emperor.
  • Mr. Fanservice: While the male leads are prone to fanservice every now and then, Lars’ visibly well-toned body and pectorals are more commonly exposed through Intimate Open Shirt, Navel-Deep Neckline, and Walking Shirtless Scene than others.

Eccentric heir to a financial empire

"If life remains unchanged, I probably couldn't bear even a day."
Age: 27
The CEO of the Feinz Group and one of the principal investors for St. Shelter Academia. After their chance encounter on the ferry, the MC finds out that he’s actually a fan of her manga In Passing and that he has a peculiar taste in art, which prompts him to become an investor for her career. When around people he likes, he has an eccentric personality that clashes with his professional CEO persona.
  • Ascended Fanboy: He becomes acquainted with the artist of his favorite manga and gets to be her most loyal art commissioner. Certain turns of events can even result in them falling in love with each other.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: His list of quirks includes, but not limited to: copying and spamming the MC’s emoji every time they chat, eating ice cream as a midnight snack, and having a bizarre taste in art. It doesn’t make him any less of a charismatic and cunning businessman who can sway people in any way he wants. The MC is no less bewildered, as she expresses in one of her Jottings:
l often wonder... How is the Lars who's sitting in a cafe talking to a dog in a funny voice the same guy as the decisive and efficient corporate CEO. Are they identical twins or something?
  • Coat Cape: The way he wears his fur-trimmed coat gives the MC the impression that he isn’t a professor, but is still someone of note. Indeed, he’s an investor for her school.
  • Distinction Without a Difference: He can see more clearly with glasses on, but he is definitely not short-sighted! Never mind the fact that glasses would only work if one’s vision was already impaired…
  • Eccentric Millionaire: Lars may be a wealthy and talented CEO, but is also a huge goofball who uses his money for…less than expectable things. For example, he offers to buy a doodle depicting a raging chicken that the MC drew out of frustration during an art block and display them in his conference room.
  • One-Gender School: He studied at a private all-boys school until he graduated from high school.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: He’s a huge fan of shoujo manga, especially the MC’s work, and is unabashed by it. He also likes stuffed toys, accessories made out of shells, and cute phone case.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: When the MC and Naledi sneak into the venue to help Naledi relieve her stress and get caught by Heinrich, Lars steps in to take the blame on himself and help the girls get out unscathed. He’s also very supportive of the events in St. Shelter Academia, whether or not they’re official, and happily offers any help he can.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: He can tell that the MC is the artist of his favorite manga early on, but decides to feign oblivion when he sees how hard she’s worked to keep her identity under wraps.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: In the level 7 Affinity event, he keeps insisting that he isn’t scared of doctors even though the MC never asks about it.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Ice cream. He gains an extra Affection point in the Ice Cream Competition itinerary event, and mentions eating ice cream as a night snack.
  • Workaholic: Lars may appear to be Idle Rich since he has times to visit St. Shelter Academia and join in the university’s antics, but as a CEO he’s actually quite busy with meetings, paperworks, and business trips. He usually resorts to short rests in between his packed schedule to quickly replenish his energy instead of having a full 8-hour sleep, and will go to a meeting despite having a fever.

The emperor reputed as a tyrant

"Even though you never were truly wed to me, I still love you with all my heart."

Age: 27
Symbol: Crown
The emperor of Godheim Empire, depicted as the villain in the manga "In Passing". He is a capricious tyrant who rules with fear and leads a life of debauchery while the people suffer from an approaching apocalypse…or so he would love the onlookers to believe. His true self, a wise ruler devoted to his country and loved one, is carefully hidden beneath the surface.
  • Abdicate the Throne: In Godheim arc’s true ending, he goes back to Silversnow and returns the throne to Ayn.
  • All for Nothing: If Ayn kills him before the Descendance Ritual is completed, every preparation he made to exchange his life for Godheim’s survival all those years will go down the drains. As such, he’s noted to die in pain and despair instead of dignity like when the Descendance Zisurru is successfully activated.
  • Arch-Enemy: Lars has an intense hatred for the Silver Knight. As it turns out, it’s less about his leadership of the La Résistance and more about Cael being responsible for Godheim’s suffering and Silversnow’s destruction.
  • Berserk Button: He reacts uncharacteristically overboard when he sees a doodle of the Silver Knight by the MC in the Prologue. At first it seems to be in line with his personality as depicted in "In Passing" – a possessive and unreasonable tyrant, but comes his route and it turns out he was angry because the MC places her trust in his Bitch in Sheep's Clothing Arch-Enemy, whom he believes has been taking advantage of her for her entire life and doesn’t deserve her kindness.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Although he was the one that killed Ayn’s family and caused his life to fall apart, in reality, Lars still cares for Ayn and wants to pass the throne to his cousin after he inevitably dies in the Descendance Ritual.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In his route, even though he’s struggling with a fever, he manages to come to the MC’s side when she’s being chased by the Silver Knight and the Rebellion after escaping their camp.
  • Break His Heart to Save Him: Platonic case for Ayn. He treats his cousin like a disposable pawn to fuel the latter’s ambition and sets up the situation so that Ayn will replace him as the emperor to lead the people in a new world.
  • The Caligula: Invoked; Lars deliberately plays the role of an unreasonable and bloodthirsty tyrant whose greed and debauchery all got to his head to get the political situation of Godheim under his control quicker and more easily.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Lars pretends to be The Caligula, whereas in reality, he’s a responsible ruler who plans every of his actions carefully. For example, when he forces the enslaved mages to clean the Royal Garden of snow even though they’re at their limit and may turn into Glacial Butterflies, he isn’t abusing labor for hedonism’s sake. He and Clarence intentionally arranged for prisoners who were in contact with the Silver Knight for the job, then fomented insurrection amongst them in hopes that the ensuing chaos would cause the Silver Knight to show up to whisk the MC off there, thus giving them a chance to ambush him.
  • The Dreaded: The nobles of Godheim are all terrified of him, and the MC can keep them under her control simply by flaunting her status as his beloved empress.
  • The Emperor: He’s the emperor of Godheim Empire, and behaves like a typical despot.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Lars has been preparing to be sacrificed for the Descendance Ritual since the day he overtook the throne, so when the time comes, he simply stays calm and waits for his end.
  • Fleur-de-lis: His route is named "The Fleur-de-lis". The symbol’s connection to royalty goes along with his position as Godheim’s emperor.
  • Friendly Enemy: While he can be considered an antagonist in the routes before his own, Lars is generally affable and compromising to the MC as long as she doesn’t try to escape her role as a sacrifice.
  • Good All Along: In the Well-Intentioned Extremist variety. In her manga, the MC paints him as the villain to the Silver Knight’s hero, but in reality their roles are flipped: everything Lars has done is to protect Godheim from the Glacial Butterflies at all costs.
  • Good Is Not Nice: While he does everything for a noble cause, it’s undeniable that Lars has been a tyrant to his people and committed many crimes in his life.
  • I Control My Minions Through...: Fear. He forces the nobles to support his rule and obey him unquestionably by building up his reputation as a "bloodthirsty and vile emperor who revels in seeing his people and country in the throes of despair", so that he can make morally questionable but necessary decisions without being hindered by the Slave to PR court.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: He doesn’t derive any satisfaction from usurping his uncle or indulge in frivolities like the common assumption, and the sole reason for his actions is to protect the people of Godheim.
  • King Incognito: In Seasonal Hunt, he goes on a hunt for the Divine Kingfisher with the MC in secret. On this trip, one shady merchant tries to sell "the Emperor’s sword" to the MC, completely unaware that the emperor himself is right by her side. The audacity and absurdity of the situation puts both her and Lars into Stunned Silence.
  • Klingon Promotion: He killed his uncle to claim the throne, or so he would have everyone believes.
  • Let Them Die Happy: All of his charades about treating the MC as his bride is to allow her a level of privilege and to spend her final days without pain.
  • Like Father, Like Son: He and his father are both very proactive in the war against Glacial Butterflies and spends their life protecting Godheim, even if it will cost them everything they have such as their honor, glory, and their own survival.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He manipulated Ayn into killing all the conspirators who participated in the plot to take over the Imperial City five years ago, both to eliminate risks and to make Ayn feel that he’s no longer adequate to take revenge on Lars now that he also has blood on his hands.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Contrary to common beliefs, Lars is significantly rational and negotiable compared to a majority of Godheim, and knows better than to imprision and treat the MC badly.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: He overtook the throne because Godheim needed a more proactive ruler for the war against the Glacial Butterflies, and spends his entire life doing anything possible, with his death in mind, to save Godheim.
  • Sickly Child Grew Up Strong: He used to struggle with the Frigid Pestilence in his childhood and spend a long time being locked in a small attic because people were afraid he would spread the disease. When he grows up, he has recovered and becomes a capable swordsman who can hold his own against the Silver Knight for a while, which is quite commendable considering how terrifyingly powerful the Silver Knight is.
  • Stepford Smiler: Lars gives the impression of an arrogant despot who relishes in the sufferings of other people, but it is an act he keeps up to hide his true self – a deeply burdened man who sacrificed his reputation and his life for others.
  • Talking in Your Sleep: After getting in contact with the Glacial Butterflies, Lars undergoes a strong fever and begins sleep talking as he relives his childhood in his dream. This allows the MC a peek into his mind, where he’s still clinging onto his memory of Silversnow as a way to keep himself going.
  • Thanatos Gambit: His plan to save Godheim involves using himself as a Human Sacrifice alongside the MC, as royal blood is required to activate the Descendance Zisurru, and then lets Ayn lead the people in his place.
  • Trauma Button: The Silver Knight deliberately evokes his trauma about Silversnow’s destruction by plunging the Imperial City in a relentless blizzard created by waves of Glacial Butterflies and spreading the Frigid Pestilence, which will ensure the Imperial City’s fall in three days just like what happened to Silversnow.
  • The Usurper: Five years ago, he allied with the Magi Tower and used their forces to seize the Imperial City and usurped the throne from the former emperor.
  • Wake Up Fighting: When the MC tries to wake him up after their first night in the same room, he immediately gets up at the sounds of her tiptoeing and draws his sword against her before realizing that it’s just the MC. He then apologizes and explains that since he isn’t used to having anyone else in his personal chambers, he thought it was another Assassination Attempt in a daze and reacted instinctively.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He knows full well that the MC has no obligation to be a Human Sacrifice for Godheim, but still goes through with the plan because it’s their only way out. He tries to make up for it by giving her the privileges of an empress for as long as she’s alive.
  • While Rome Burns: An enslaved mage, whose lover turned into a Glacial Butterfly and got killed after he overused his magic to clean the Royal Garden, berates Lars for taking the MC out for a walk in the Royal Garden that was kept pristine with the mages’ life. Subverted as it’s actually part of Lars’ plan to lure the Silver Knight out.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: When Clarence asked him why he didn’t accept any proposal for Arranged Marriage, Lars replied that as he was doomed to die sooner or later, he couldn’t condemn some poor girl’s future with him. He also didn’t believe in marriage for the sake of an heir, as producing an offspring who would have to shoulder the sins of their father is a heinous act towards both the child and the woman.
Lars: I would pulverize 10,000 of my enemies without a second's pause, but hurting an innocent woman is where I draw the line.
  • You Killed My Father: He antagonizes the Silver Knight for being the one behind the Frigid Pestilence and the fall of Silversnow, which took the life of his family.

    Tropes exclusive to Eden

The wave that reveals the truth buried in sand

"I’m a businessman, so naturally my words are worth their weight in gold."

Keyword: Sea

A skillful collector and calculating merchant who travels through the desert as he pleases. He has volunteered to be the MC’s guide in Eden, and manages to turn the adventure into a sightseeing tour with his joyous disposition and charm. Although he denies any connection with Eden, he will be the key towards the truth of this "oasis".

  • Bystander Syndrome: Downplayed; Lars is a nice and friendly guy who did help the MC at first, but he prefers not to concern himself with Eden’s matters as much as possible. When the MC finds Yuri on the verge of turning into a Lost One, he advises her to just leave the boy be, believing that there’s no way of saving him even if Yuri was their savior, although he’s eventually convinced by her determination and makes a deal with Alkaid on her behalf to reverse Yuri’s mutation.
  • Exposition Beam: In his route, he and the MC share their memory using his NEOS power so that they can understand each other’s situation better and find a way towards Eden’s truth.
  • Foreshadowing: His Keyword seems out of place in the Desert Punk setting of Eden where you would struggle to find a lake, let alone the sea. It turns out this is a hint that Lars has never been a true resident of Eden, having originated from another world with abundant ocean.
  • Ghost Memory: After becoming a NEOS, he gains the power to share his memory with others and read their memory in return. He has a little Power Incontinence at first though, so he unconsciously lets the MC in his memory while sleeping.
  • I Choose to Stay: Although he’s very eager to get the hell out of Eden per his end of the bargain with Alkaid, he chooses to stay back after the MC insists on continuing her quest to learn the truth of Eden instead of leaving with him.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: Lars is evidently uncomfortable with how controlling Alkaid is towards Eden and finds his true calling in roaming the desert despite the danger it poses.
  • Intrepid Merchant: Lars is a merchant who calls the desert his home and merely views Eden as a stopover between his endless journey. Although lacking in combat skills, he has seen and knows more about the world than the average person, which makes him a good informant and guide. He’s also wealthy for Eden’s standards, being able to afford bodyguards and a hideout where he puts artifacts
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: The first memory Lars has is waking up in Eden while having the appearance of a teenage boy. He cannot recall anything prior to that, as if he was only born at that point. After his soul was brought to Eden, he lost all memories about his previous life, and Alkaid simply let Lars stay in the dark about the true identity of himself.
  • Non-Action Guy: Lars claims to be a helpless merchant and has to hire bodyguards to keep himself safe in Eden.
  • No-Sell: While he has shown symptoms similar to accelerated mutation, as it turns out, Lars is immune to being turned into the Lost because while the NEOS lose their mind the more they use their power which leads to their mutation, Lars’ unique power and price returns his memory to him. Using his ability only makes his thoughts even clearer, removing the very element that would have led to his mutation.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: After regaining his memory, Lars flies into rage and immediately storms out of the hidings to find Alkaid and get revenge for his world. If the MC doesn’t stop him, he will get himself killed in this attempt.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After learning about Alkaid’s dark side, Lars has taken any opportunity to get away from Eden and only returns once in a while, each stay shorter than the other.
  • Skewed Priorities: Lars is afraid of becoming a NEOS not because of the physical and psychological horror that would inevitably happen once he mutates into a Lost One, but because he thinks the Lost are ugly and he’s not okay with looking like that.
  • Tastes Like Friendship: Alkaid gave him a slice of cake in their first meeting, which he still remembers fondly as the best he has ever eaten despite the current status of their relationship.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Lars starts off as completely defenseless and requires bodyguards to walk around Eden, but in his route, he consumes the soul stones and becomes a NEOS to protect the MC in a moment of crisis. This decision turns out to be crucial in unraveling his true identity and setting up the stage for his confrontation with the Master of Eden.
  • Trapped in Another World: Like the MC, Lars is a person from another world who responded to Alkaid’s plea, which resulted in the destruction of his world. Although his old body died with his original world, Alkaid retrieved his soul and revived him in Eden out of guilt.
  • Underwater Kiss: When they are dragged into the lake by The Lost, the MC gives him, who is already unconscious, a Kiss of Life to share oxygen with him.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: By accepting Alkaid’s plea for help, thinking it was a part of his adventure on the sea, he caused his world to be targeted and destroyed by the pulse cannon for Eden. He only realizes this after seeing the full picture, which causes him to mentally break down.
  • We Used to Be Friends: He and Alkaid used to be the only human residents of Eden and spent their adolescence with each other, but after learning about Alkaid’s relationship with the Lost, Lars’ uneasiness prompted him to get away from Eden. He began to distance himself from Alkaid until they can only be called mere acquaintances instead of the found family they used to be.
  • What You Are in the Dark: When Lars is guiding Alkaid towards his world’s resentment that remains in Eden, the illusion of the bustling seaside city collapses to recreate the moment Lars' world was destroyed and have Alkaid trapped in the ruins. Lars - or more accurately, his subconscious - tells Alkaid the escape route which actually leads him straight into the flood, causing Alkaid to be consumed by the raging sea. The MC rationalizes that the real Lars doesn’t mean to do this, but his evil emotions were stirred up as his spirituality was infused in the pulse cannon, resulting in this act of justified revenge.

The Lamp Seeker

"I want the little witch to have a happy life, so it's better to stick with me."

A projection of the MC’s subconscious in the dream realm, taking the form of Lars combined with Aladdin in the folktale "Aladdin". In the epilogue, the consciousness of Modern World’s Lars overtakes it.
