A list of characters who appear in LEGO Dino Attack. While Dino 2010 features the same cast, it is much lighter on storyline; therefore, the majority of character tropes are based on Dino Attack instead.

    Dino Attack team

Specs

  • Captain Smooth and Sergeant Rough: Specs is the Captain Smooth to Shadow's Sergeant Rough. Specs is the calm team leader who doesn't wish to exterminate the dinos, and he is frustrated when Shadow doesn't follow orders.
  • Cool Mask: Specs always wears a balaclava.
  • The Faceless: Since he is always depicted wearing a balaclava, we don't know what Specs' face really looks like.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Specs invented most of Dino Attack team's technology, including the Xenon Multi-Mode Launcher.
  • The Leader: Specs is revealed to be the team leader in one of the online stories.
  • Omnidisciplinary Scientist: Specs is a chemist, a paleontologist, a biologist, a nuclear physicist, and a technician all in one.
  • Science Hero: The leader of Dino Attack team, saving the world from an apocalyptic dinosaur outbreak, is an Omnidisciplinary Scientist.

Shadow

  • Bald Head of Toughness: Unlike Digger and Viper, Shadow is shown without his helmet in his online bio, and it shows that he doesn't have any hair. It fits his personality as the toughest, roughest member of the Dino Attack team.
  • Black Comedy: His My LEGO Network profile reveals that he has a dark sense of humor.
  • Captain Smooth and Sergeant Rough: Shadow is the Sergeant Rough to Specs's Captain Smooth. Shadow is the driven soldier willing to exterminate the dinos, and he often goes against Specs's orders.
  • Combat Pragmatist: According to his My LEGO Network profile, Shadow will use any trick in the book to defeat an enemy, and isn't afraid to resort to underhanded tactics.
  • Fighting the Lancer: Specs and Shadow often argue over tactics, and it's usually Viper who has to step in to calm things down.
  • It's Personal: In the initial invasion, mutant dinosaurs leveled Shadow's entire neighborhood, causing him to be the most driven member of the Dino Attack team.
  • The Lancer: Shadow serves as a Foil to Specs due to his emotionally-driven desire to exterminate the dinosaurs, going against Specs's tactics and intentions to study the dinosaurs.
  • Military Maverick: Shadow does whatever he wants regardless of orders, much to the frustration of Specs.
  • The Power of Hate: Shadow is the most driven member of the team, eager to exterminate the mutant dinosaurs after they devastated his home.
  • This Means Warpaint: According to Standing Small, the markings on Shadow's face are camouflage paint, most likely applied for the wartime setting.

Digger

  • Adventurer Archaeologist: Digger seems to be portrayed as one, given his paleontologist background and his love for exciting thrills.
  • Badasses Wear Bandanas: This thrill-seeking crack shot wears a red bandana tied around his forehead.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Although he was just a paleontologist before the Dino Attack, Digger is reputed for his dead aim with the Cosmotronic Ray.
  • In Harm's Way: Digger lives for thrills, often placing himself in dangerous situations to increase the dramatic tension.
  • Kill Him Already!: Digger prefers to wait until the last possible second to fire his Cosmotronic Ray to defeat a mutant dino... for no other reason than to increase dramatic tension.
  • Perma-Stubble: Digger is the only member of Dino Attack team who isn't clean-shaven, instead having a face full of stubble.
  • Science Hero: Digger is a paleontologist who is saving the world from dinosaurs.
  • The Smart Guy: Digger's knowledge of paleontology serves as an asset to Dino Attack team's understanding of the dinosaurs.

Viper

  • Badass Driver: My LEGO Network reveals that Viper used to be a racecar driver before the Dino Attack.
  • Buffy Speak: Since Viper isn't a scientist, he doesn't bother trying to refer to the dinosaurs by name. He just calls them "scales", "thunder lizard", etc.
  • Conscription: Viper was drafted into the team.
  • Cool Shades: Viper always wears a pair of sunglasses.
  • Glory Seeker: Viper might be one, due to his secret desire to defeat the biggest and baddest T-Rex single-handedly.
  • The Heart: Viper gets along well with his teammates and is usually the one to calm Shadow down.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Viper's strategy is to attack first with lightning speed.
  • Rugged Scar: Although mostly masked by his Cool Shades, Viper has a prominent scar on his left cheek, fitting the tough world of Dino Attack.

    Dinosaurs

As a whole

Mutant Lizard

  • Acid Attack: Some Mutant Lizards (the yellow ones in the online game) can spit acid.
  • Adaptive Ability: Mutant Lizards have the ability to adapt, making it difficult to defeat Mutant Lizards with the same battle strategy twice.
  • All There in the Script: The internal name for the Mutant Lizard's brick is "Compy", suggesting that the Mutant Lizard's species is actually Compsognathus.
  • Breath Weapon: Some Mutant Lizards can breathe fire.
  • Casting a Shadow: Some Mutant Lizards have darkness abilities.
  • Chameleon Camouflage: Some Mutant Lizards (the green ones in the online game) have camouflage abilities.
  • Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: There are many different breeds of Mutant Lizards, each with a different ability, such as camouflage, acid-spitting, and fire-breathing. The online game color-codes these three specific breeds to three different colors: green (camouflage), yellow (acid), and red (fire).
  • Dinosaurs Are Dragons: Some Mutant Lizards (the red ones in the online game) can breathe fire.
  • No Name Given: Unlike the other dinosaurs, Mutant Lizards are not identified by the name of their dinosaur species. Dino 2010 takes this a step further and only generically refers to them as "dinosaurs", not even giving them a more specific name like their Dino Attack counterparts.
  • Playing with Fire: The fire-breathing Mutant Lizards.
  • Sneaky Spy Species: Mutant Lizard abilities include Chameleon Camouflage, darkness, and heightened stealth. Therefore, their online bio notes that this mutant dinosaur species is particularly skilled when it comes to infiltrating bases.
  • Stealth Expert: Some Mutant Lizards have heightened stealth and are particularly skilled at infiltrating bases.
  • Super Spit: Some Mutant Lizards (the yellow ones in the online game) can spit acid.
  • The Swarm: Mutant Lizards make up the bulk of the dino army due to finding their strength in numbers.

Raptor

  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: A Raptor's claws can easily tear apart a Fire Hammer, a military jeep designed specifically for combating the mutant dinosaurs and armored with 12 inches of cyber-titanium.
  • Barrier Warrior: Raptors have the ability to create Deflector Shields that protect them from nearly any weapon. Only the Cosmotronic Ray can pierce their shields.
  • Breath Weapon: In the online game, red-skinned Raptors can breathe out red/white orbs as an attack.
  • Deflector Shields: The Raptors have force fields that can only be penetrated by Cosmotronic Rays.
  • Dinosaurs Are Dragons: In the online game, red-skinned Raptors' Breath Weapon seems to resemble fire-breathing.
  • Lightning Bruiser: In addition to Super-Strength, the Raptors have great speed.
  • Raptor Attack: Exaggerated. The Raptor is depicted as a vicious featherless theropod and is much larger than any real-life Velociraptor (even bigger than a Utahraptor), being at least three times as tall as a human minifigure. It's clearly intended to evoke the famous Jurassic Park films' Velociraptor imagery instead of what's scientifically accurate, but this is an especially extreme example of the trope for the sake of creating a scary Prehistoric Monster. Strangely, unlike the popular Velociraptor stereotype, these Raptors lack any obvious sickle claws.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: These vicious Raptors have red eyes.
  • Super-Senses: The Raptors possess heightened senses to make them the ultimate hunters.
  • Super-Strength: One of the Raptor's powers is its strength, strong enough to tear a Fire Hammer to shreds.

Pteranodon

  • Army Scout: The Pteranodon is described in its bio as performing scouting missions for the dino army.
  • Giant Flyer: The Pteranodons have a larger wingspan than any other (non brick-built) LEGO pterosaur to date.
  • Ironic Name: The name "Pteranodon" is derived from Greek and means "toothless wing". However, these Pteranodons have lots of teeth.
  • Lightning Bruiser: A literal example, since the Pteranodon's speed makes it hard to hit while it fires back with lightning bolts.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: These deadly Pteranodons have red eyes.
  • Shock and Awe: Pteranodons have the ability to shoot lightning bolts from their wings. Their "lightning vision" also suggests that they can fire these lightning bolts from their eyes as well.
  • Slow Laser: In the online game, red-skinned Pteranodons shoot lasers from their wings. Likely for the sake of game balance, these lasers don't travel at the speed of light.
  • Terror-dactyl: This monstrous Pteranodon bears more resemblance to a Wyvern than any real-life pterosaur due to having bat-like wings, large claws, and a beak full of sharp teeth. It also acts just as deadly as a Wyvern when it is viciously attacking its human prey.

T-Rex

  • Anti-Air: The T-Rex's online bio notes that its Eye Beams protect it from aerial attacks such as the T-1 Typhoon.
  • Atomic Superpower: The T-Rex possess an internal nuclear furnace, which it uses to disintegrate incoming rockets and anything that it bites down on.
  • Breath Weapon:
    • A T-Rex's mouth is a nuclear furnace that can disintegrate anything.
    • In the online game, the red-skinned T-Rex spews out deadly red/white orbs (an upgraded version of the red Raptor's attack) whenever it roars.
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: The end of the T-Rex's tail is colored the same as its horns, teeth, and toe claws, suggesting that it is a hard stinger-like spike.
  • Dinosaurs Are Dragons: In the online game, the red T-Rex's Breath Weapon seems to resemble fire-breathing.
  • Eye Beams: T-Rexes have laser vision.
  • Final Boss: The red T-Rex is the final boss of the online game.
  • Flunky Boss: The yellow T-Rex in the online game, which spawns Raptors whenever it roars.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: The T-Rex toys came with light-up eyes that would turn red, most likely simulating their laser vision.
  • Horn Attack: Unlike the Raptor, the T-Rex's head crests are colored the same as their teeth and toe claws, suggesting that they are horns.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: T-Rexes are said to be nearly invincible.
  • Not Zilla: A gigantic mutant dinosaur with radiation breath. Where have we seen that before?
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: The T-Rex included in the T-1 Typhoon and Dino Air Tracker sets has black and red skin.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: These dangerous T-Rexes have red eyes when they light up.
  • Super-Strength: T-Rexes possess massive strength, able to demolish buildings and bite through steel.
  • Tactical Suicide Boss: In the online game, the T-Rex is only vulnerable while it's roaring. So, of course, it stops to roar at every opportunity.
  • Terrifying Tyrannosaur: What is a toyline about scary dinosaurs without the classic Tyrannosaurus rex? And since they are also mutated T-Rexes, they get horns, oversized forelimbs, and glowing red eyes with nuclear breath. Its online bio describes it as "King of the Dino Attack monsters" and "the ultimate machine creature", cementing its role as the biggest and baddest of the mutant dinosaurs. In the online Dino Attack game, a Tyrannosaurus rex would serve as the boss of each stage, including the red T-Rex as the Final Boss.
