Governor of Avernus
The first Governor of Avernus... due to a clerical error.
- Arm Cannon: His prosthetic arm has a neutton blaster, according to a Third Invasion omake.
- Artificial Limb: Killed an invading Chaos Lord at the cost of An Arm and a Leg.
- Badass Bureaucrat: One who doesn't tolerate sloppy work.
- Badass Unintentional: He was actually supposed to be sent to an Agri-World. The retired General who was sent in his stead came to visit at one point.
- The Chains of Commanding: He tend to feel guilty about all the soldiers he has to sacrifice to win battles.
- Happily Married: For as long as it lasted, at least.
- The Mourning After: What happened after his marriage was violently ended. Frederick basically became Freya-sexual when they fell in love, and has stayed that way even centuries past her death.
The Ash Hound
The First Beta level psyker found on Avernus. Would have been a Grey Knight recruit had they found him first.
- Appropriated Appellation: Got the nickname of "The Governor's Hound" (changed to "Ash Hound" later) from a Chaos Beta he killed.
- Determinator: Got a jugular sliced open by a Chaos Lord you're fighting? Patch it up with Biomancy and keep going.
- Playing with Fire: Pyromancy is his specialization.
The Oracle of Avernus
The Head of the Avernus Adeptus Astra Telepathica, and the best human Diviner currently alive.
- Blind Seer: A side effect of watching the birth and battles of gods.
- Blind Weaponmaster: Excellent at shooting due to his divinatory abilities.
- Bunny-Ears Lawyer: He acts very bizarre in person and is so hopeless at administration that he found an assistant specifically geared toward it but despite his divination skills are unmatched.
- Combat Clairvoyance: He is a Paragon Diviner with high Combat.
- No Social Skills: Bad in Diplomacy and Administration.
The Last Saint
The head of the Avernus Adeptus Ministorum. Became an Emperor's Saint right before the latter's death.
- Badass Preacher: Good with his pistols.
- Celibate Hero: Gave an oath of chastity.
- Exactly What It Says on the Tin: While there were a number of other people made into Living Saints by the Emperor in his final hours, the combination of different time flow in the Trust and personal hatred from Tjapa had ensured he was indeed the last well before the second chapter started.
- Friend to All Children: Spends a lot of his time in orphanages. After his death, his remains are enshrined in the Unseen University's children's ward, protecting young psykers from the perils of the Warp and allowing them to play more freely with their powers for a time. Just as he would've liked.
- Incorruptible Pure Pureness: He is immune to corruption by the Chaos Gods.
- Power at a Price: Accelerated aging due to the power literally burning his soul to oblivion.
- Touched by Vorlons: Empowered by the Emperor into Sainthood.
The Songweaver
- Bunny-Ears Lawyer: A bit ditzy, but very skilled.
- Magic Music: Basically invented the discipline.
The Governor's Wife
- Former Teen Rebel: Not quite a teen, but had an impressive list of conquests before she married Frederick. After falling in love with him and giving birth to Syr she stopped completely.
- Really Gets Around: Before she married Frederick, at any rate.
- World's Most Beautiful Woman: At least in the Nine Worlds.
The Governor's Daughter
Frederick's daughter with Freya, and later the mother of Tormod.
- Missing Mom: Her mother, Freya, was bitten by a Death's Head Blink Spider while she was a teenager.
The Inevitable
The head of the Adeptus Arbites.
- Fragile Speedster: Her combat style relies on speed and dodging over being able to take hits.
- Mage Killer: She regularly kills Beta and Alpha level psykers despite being a normal human.
- Master Swordswoman: To the point that she can cut down anything smaller than an Imperator Titan.
- My Biological Clock Is Ticking: Well, she ultimately decides to adopt a kid (and chooses a boy who killed an Ammut crocodile at the age of five)
- Scars Are Forever: A Chaos Beta she killed had burned her face down to the very soul.
The Champion of Avernus
- Happily Adopted: His biological parents were killed by an Ammut Crocodile when he was five, which he killed with a knife in turn. Jane adopted him afterwards due to that incident.
- Master Swordsman: Like his mother.
- Touched by Vorlons: During his ordeals in the caverns, he met the Radiance and it blessed him, changing his soul at a fundamental level. Lulana later gave him an Alkahestrial enhancement to prevent it from burning his body out. As a result of these, Jacob probably doesn't count as a baseline human anymore.
The First Alpha
The first Alpha level psyker born on Avernus.
- Cute Mute: Preferred to communicate telepathically for the first few years.
- I Have No Daughter!: Disowned by her biological parents and adopted by Xavier and Tamia.
- Lethal Chef: One omake has her playing The Matchmaker between her parents by cooking them a romantic dinner. Xavier burns his portion to coal inside his mouth to make it taste better.
- She gets better at cooking later in life, and in an omake centuries after the one where she makes her parents dinner, Ophelia is able to produce something edible (and actually quite tasty) for herself in her morning routine.
- Strong, but Unskilled: Not quite unskilled, but her control and precision are notably inferior to her parents', at least at first.
Mittens the Phase-Tiger
Xavier's familiar, a Phase Tiger he found and adopted when Mittens was a cub (and Xavier a teenager).
- Cats Are Superior: Oh, any omake giving his point of view is pure gold.
- Fluffy the Terrible: Can be quite nice, actually, but not a creature anyone not a Blood Knight wants to upset.
- Intellectual Animal: As smart as a human. This isn't typical for his species, and Mittens gets it from his bond with Xavier.
- Panthera Awesome: A teleporting, telefragging, burning tiger.
- Playing with Fire: Can channel some of Xavier's Pyromancy.
The Ancient Wanderer
The last survivor of the original Avernus humans... and their genetic experiments.
- Bow and Sword in Accord: An axe, actually, rather than a sword.
- Green-Skinned Space Babe: Actually, she is grey-skinned.
- Last of Her Kind: The last of the original colony.
- LEGO Genetics: She incorporates genes from countless local species and is an Alpha Psyker as well. It is heavily implied the only reason the experiment succeeded to such an extent was direct interference by the Planet Mind.
- Magical Girl Warrior: She has the claim to the Magical Girl archetype, and definitely doesn't lack for skill in fighting.
- The Münchausen: She gets up to quite a few crazy escapades during her missions for the Eldar, and occasionally likes to regale Frederick about them when they meet. He's learned to stop taking the more outlandish accounts seriously after she trolled him with made-up stories several times, only to be surprised at one point when he sees hard proof that one of her tall tales he dismissed as lies was actually true.
- Raised by Natives: Initially Sirens, although she spent time with all races over time. Not surprisingly, she feels little connection to humanity.
- Time Abyss: She hails from before the First Age of Strife.
- Walking the Earth: Avernus rather than Earth, but she's been all over.
