Killing Game Passengers

    General
A Group of young adults kidnapped and forced to play the Killing Game on a cruise ship.
  • The Ace: Subverted; they still have the talents they demonstrate in canon but they are nowhere near as skilled as the Ultimates from the Danganronpa series are in their fields of expertise. Their so-called "Ultimate" titles are just an unofficial title given to them by Monoponi to further copy the games, and several of them are just insults directed at the passengers.
  • Amnesiac Lover: It is revealed that several of them were in relationships that they don't remember before the start of the game. Most of them being with each other.
    • Chapter Three reveals that Applejack and Rarity were married to each other previously. Sweetie Belle was also married, but it is unknown to whom.
    • It is revealed in the last trial that After Sci-Twi broke up with Timber Spruce she got together with Flash Sentry, and the two of them flirted with the idea of marriage together. Also, Scootaloo and Diamond Tiara began dating each other just before the start of the game.
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: Averted; unlike in the Danganronpa games, and many fan works, the girls here heavily outnumber the boys, with Flash Sentry and Timber Spruce being the only two guys present.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: As is usually the case with anyone in the Killing Game, they have had their memories erased. The group has no idea how they wound up on a cruise ship together, but almost all memories they have had of each other have also been removed, so most of them (except for the siblings, and Childhood Friends Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash) don't know they have know each other since High School. The more they learn about their pasts with each other though, the more problems that arise because of it.
    Sunset Shimmer

Ultimate ???

The main protagonist of the story. Sunset has played the Danganronpa series in the past, and recognizes the situation she and the other passengers have found themselves in. She is determined to beat the Mastermind and get off the cruise ship with as many of her fellow passengers as she can.
  • Genre Savvy: Thanks to playing Danganronpa herself in the past, she recognizes a lot of the patterns that happen in the Killing Game she and the others find themselves in. Unfortunately, this also makes her suspicious to everyone else, since nobody else in the group has played the game before.
    Rarity

Ultimate Seamstress

A seamstress and fashion designer, Rarity owns a boutique in Canterlot called "Rarity for You." She's friendly, melodramatic, and more than anything else wants to protect her sister Sweetie Belle. But she also finds herself befriending many of her fellow passengers, and develops feelings for several of her fellow passengers.
  • Disappointed in You: She says this to Sweetie Belle, after it is made clear that Sweetie Belle was the one who built the Death Trap that killed Apple Bloom, in an attempt to kill Sunset Shimmer.
  • Drama Queen: While this is always in play when Rarity is around, she especially hams it up at a few key moments, such as during the second trial, when she falls into Trixie's arms. Also subverted in that whenever she's called upon it she immediately stops and apologizes.
    Pinkie Pie

Ultimate Party Planner

A fun-loving party girl, Pinkie Pie just wants to put a smile on everyone's face. She throws parties, she makes treats, and does everything she can to try and cheer the people up around her, because she can't handle the thought of anyone actually dying, as it just might break her spirit if they did.
  • Descent into Addiction: While not one normally prone to using drugs, Pinkie is prone to poor coping mechanisms, and the pharmacy on the ship provides a vast assortment of illegal drugs. As such, after the first trial, Pinkie starts using morphine in an attempt to cope, as it's an easy way to deal, especially since she has made no real friends among her fellow passengers. After the second trial it gets worse, as she starts using it much more heavily. Then when Fluttershy dies seemingly through Pinkie's actions, she completely loses herself in using several drugs at once, adding oxycodone and heroin to the mix, eventually leading to her death.

    Diamond Tiara

Ultimate Ultimate Rich Kid

A bratty spoiled girl who believes her wealth and family name makes her better than everyone else. She quickly tries to assert dominance over the group and begins a campaign against Sunset Shimmer due to her knowledge of Danganronpa. She quickly finds herself humbled and terrified from her experience in the Killing Game.
  • Being Evil Sucks: More like being a jerk instead of being evil, but Tiara eventually realizes that her bad attitude was not helping her in the Killing Game, only getting her insulted, slapped, and accused of murder. So she attempts to better herself after the second trial.
  • Leader Wannabe: She declares herself leader of the group by Chapter Two, even though Sunset was the one who took control of the investigation and trial previously, and everyone else thinks she would be better fit. She keeps the title in name only when Sunset declines, but proves to be incompetent when all she does is ramble on about how Sunset is "obviously" the traitor with little to no actual proof. Sunset continues to take command in the investigations and trials anyway, to Tiara's frustration. Zig-zagged from Chapter Three onward, when Diamond Tiara tries to be a better person and take her responsibility seriously, but still has difficulty leading everyone. She diverts leadership to Sunset entirely by Chapter Six, acknowledging that she is not a good leader herself.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: She is on the receiving end of one from Applejack. When one of their arguments goes too far and Applejack calls her a bitch, Diamond Tiara attacks her in a rage, only to end up being easily overpowered. Applejack throws her into a table, breaking it upon impact, and proceeds to beat her while she is down, knocking out a few teeth in the process, until everyone restrains Applejack and pulls her off Diamond Tiara.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: Her reaction during the fourth trial to Monoponi cupping her cheeks and saying he could just kiss her, is to vomit behind her podium at the mere mention of the idea. When the Mastermind reminds her of this offer during the final trial while mockingly flirting with her, remarking how they never actually did get to kiss, and asks if she'd like to "make up for lost time" before puckering up and making kissing noises at her, she slaps a hand over her mouth to keep from vomiting again while her face turns green.
    Applejack

Ultimate Farmer

An apple farmer from a long line of apple farmers, Applejack is honest to a fault, and both hardworking and prideful. But she's also prone to anger issues, and has a distinct disdain for anyone whom she feels puts on airs, or acts better than others because they have more money. Unfortunately that describes several of her fellow passengers.
    Apple Bloom

Ultimate *UNKNOWN*

Little sister to Applejack, Apple Bloom is just as hardworking and honest as her older sister, but also much more easy-going. She easily makes friends among her fellow passengers and loves to help out where she can. Like Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo, her talent is explicitly shown in her profile as a rotating slot machine, forever undecided.
    Timber Spruce

Ultimate Camp Counselor

One of two counselors and owners of Camp Everfree, Timber Spruce is self-indulgent, full of himself, and tries to get along with everyone. "Tries" being the key word, as he frequently ends up stepping over the line with his flirting and making many of his fellow passengers uncomfortable. But he also cares deeply for his sister, and would do anything for her. Anything.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: This is how Timber attempts to fool the others during his murder of Wallflower Blush, by spiking the cider at the pool party with ipecac syrup and laxatives frozen in ice, then pretending to drink the cider and be subjected to its effects. The next morning, before the investigation, he also doses himself with leftover ipecac so he can visibly throw up and appear sick and thus incapable of the murder.
    Wallflower Blush

Ultimate Nobody

A shy, quiet girl, Wallflower Blush acts jaded and nasty towards everyone, out of a sense of fear. She feels bitter and lonely because she never had any friends growing up, and sees no reason to bother with making them now. She keeps her distance, and repeatedly calls Sunset out whenever Sunset tries to give a rousing speech.
  • Red Herring: Despite her being associated with memory wipes from the original special she featured in, and despite being played up as a probable game-long rival of Sunset, Wallflower has nothing to do with their lost memories, and ends up as the very first victim of the killing game.
    Rainbow Dash

Ultimate Athlete

Fun-loving and all around sports girl, Rainbow Dash loves excitement and craves thrills, whether it's through a game of soccer, ice hockey, go-karts, or any other sort of adrenaline packed activity. But she also cares deeply for Fluttershy, and is protective of her. She will not allow anyone else to hurt Fluttershy, not if she can help it. She flip-flops repeatedly on Sunset, at times seeming to support her, at other times coming down on Sunset hard for perceived slights.
    Fluttershy

Ultimate Veterinarian

Soft-spoken and kind, tall and willowy while shy as her name suggests, Fluttershy nevertheless shows her heart by trying to take care of all of her fellow passengers, wherever and however she can. She's closest to Rainbow Dash, and cares for her most, but she doesn't want to see anyone else hurt if she can help it.
    Trixie Lulamoon

Ultimate Illusionist

At first appearing as a complete egotistical nutcase who always speaks in third person with a brain the size of a pea, Trixie nevertheless proves to be one of the smartest of her fellow passengers, and cares a great deal for them to. While often at odds with Applejack, the only one she detests is Adagio Dazzle, whom she sees as nothing but a big bully. She also forms a deep friendship with Sunset Shimmer.
  • Redemption Equals Death: In Chapter Three, Trixie kills Pinkie Pie in a cruel, arguably malicious way, to selfishly preserve Sunset's life and her own. She feels utterly horrible about it the whole time, and spends Chapter Four being locked away and hated by everyone, even Sunset for a while, until Sunset and then Rarity re-befriend her. By Chapter Five, she's forgiven by Rarity and Sunset, and is given a way to leave her room by Sunset, in secret. This is what allows her to witness Adagio's attempt to murder Sunset, and gives her the chance to fully enact her redemption by killing Adagio in a relatively painless manner and using Monoponi's promised stay of execution on Sunset to extend the trial long enough to allow Sunset to free herself from the archive room, and preserve everyone else's lives to boot by preventing Adagio from winning the trial. Of course, by the end of the trial, she's outed herself as guilty, and we all know what happens to the blackened when they're caught...
    Adagio Dazzle

Ultimate Songstress

Sexy, seductive, and more dangerous than a lit piece of dynamite dropped in a crowded room, Adagio distrusts all of her fellow passengers due to her siren nature. While she quickly forms bonds with Sunset Shimmer, as a fellow non-human, she dislikes everyone else. She especially hates Trixie, finding her abhorrent and atrocious.
  • Crocodile Tears: Throughout the investigation of Chapter Five, everyone says how worried Adagio was for Sunset Shimmer when she mysteriously disappears one day, crying how she hopes she is okay and regrets how things went the last time they spoke. Rarity is the only one who is convinced that all this was genuine, while everyone else believes she was faking it. They were right to be suspicious though, since Adagio was the one who kidnapped Sunset, and locked her away to slowly die of dehydration.
  • Love-Interest Traitor: After spending most of the game working with Sunset Shimmer, and slowly falling in love with her and becoming a better person because of it, Adagio turns against Sunset in Chapter Five, after realizing that she was the one who took away her magic. This leads to her attacking Sunset in anger, destroying her property, ending their relationship, and eventually kidnapping her in the middle of the night and locking her away in the library archive room to die of dehydration. Though this is an interesting example, since all this was brought on by Adagio's belief that Sunset was the one who betrayed her first.
  • Yandere: When Sunset Shimmer befriends Trixie, Adagio mistakes their public hug for a declaration of romance. Thus when Sunset tries to speak to her later she takes a knife to Sunset's throat, threatening Sunset's life unless Sunset can properly explain. Fortunately, Sunset talks her down.
    Flash Sentry

Ultimate Boytoy

An easy-going guy who loves to play guitar, drive a sports car, and be chill with everyone, Flash tries his best to play peacemaker, frequently getting involved with the conflicts with others. He also rapidly develops feelings for Twilight Sparkle, and it isn't long before the two get together.
    Twilight Sparkle

Ultimate Researcher

A scientist and researcher by nature, Twilight Sparkle, at first, appears cold and calculated. She quickly demonstrates she is just as prone to anxiety as anyone else however, and finds herself drawn to Flash Sentry. She also distrusts Sunset, and though she briefly seems friendly to her, she soon takes that back, and rapidly becomes Sunset's enemy.
    Sweetie Belle

Ultimate *UNKNOWN*

The little sister of Rarity, Sweetie Belle quickly develops a fast friendship with several passengers, including Scootaloo and Apple Bloom. However she is also deeply suspicious of Sunset Shimmer, and anyone else who seems to get too close to Sunset. Just like Apple Bloom and Scootaloo, her talent is explicitly shown in her profile as a rotating slot machine, forever undecided.
    Scootaloo

Ultimate *UNKNOWN*

While the same age as Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Diamond Tiara, Scootaloo stands alone. Though she befriends two of the others her age, she finds herself at odds with anyone she sees as hurting others, and always lingers on the periphery. She tries to help out wherever she can, but she never makes close ties. Like Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom, her talent is explicitly shown in her profile as a rotating slot machine, forever undecided.
  • Now or Never Kiss: In the aftermath of the final trial, now at the height of her confidence and the timer to the nuke the Mastermind activated slowly ticking down, Scootaloo surprises Diamond Tiara with a quick kiss on the cheek. It also helps that the two just found out they started dating before the Killing Game began.

Killing Game Captain

    Monoponi
The proclaimed "captain" of the cruise the passengers find themselves trapped on. Taking the place of the Mascot Villain Monokuma, Monoponi is designed as a pony duplicated of him, his entire body divided black and white on equal sides, with one bat wing and one feathered wing, and the magic of an alicorn. He forces everyone to stay on the cruise indefinitely, unless one of them can murder one of their fellow passengers and get away with it. He demands complete respect at all times, and expects complete compliance from everyone. He ultimately serves as just a disguise for the true Mastermind of this deadly game.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: During the third trial, everyone brings up how Monoponi apparently broke one of his own rules, specifically Rule #11: "Monoponi will never directly participate in a Rescue Attempt", since he was the one who falsely murdered Fluttershy. He admits he thought of that himself, and decided to "bend" that rule this once, declaring he was used as simply a tool of murder, since he was tricked like everyone else. When everyone still calls out his bullshit on this reasoning, he declares that he makes the rules and he decides how to interpret them, making it clear there will be no further arguments on it.
  • "Take That!" Kiss: During the fourth trial, after Diamond Tiara makes a correct assumption about the smoke detectors and their relation to the murder, Monoponi "congratulates" her by telling her he could just kiss her. This declaration causes Tiara to vomit behind her podium at the idea, and everyone else is grossed out at the thought of Monoponi kissing anyone. Monoponi's laughter at Tiara afterwards shows that he was hoping for this reaction from her.
  • Troll: He likes to screw with the passengers as much as Monokuma does in the games, and takes every opportunity to pester them and mess with them whenever he can.
    The Mastermind (MASSIVE SPOILERS)
Exposed during the final trial of the Killing Game, the Mastermind is revealed to be none other than Cozy Glow, the young foal from Equestria that attempted a coup alongside Chrysalis and Tirek. After finding themselves transported to the human world and freed from their stone prison, Cozy tricked her former partners into thinking she found a way they could go back to Equestria, only to double-cross them with a ritual and steal their magic for herself, resulting in their deaths. She then faked her own death by murdering their human counterparts and leaving their bodies to be discovered in Equestria. She assumed a fake identity and slowly befriended Sunset Shimmer, who eventually introduced her to Danganronpa, which she used as the premise for her revenge against Princess Twilight, using her human friends as bait for her ultimate plan.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: She invokes this against Diamond Tiara. After Tiara snarks at her, Cozy pouts how she thought they were "getting along sooo well", and then pretends to flirt with her and offers to make out with her to "make up for lost time", puckering up and making kissing noises at her. This disgusts and terrifies Tiara, not because Cozy is "ugly" per say, but because she is a complete psychopath who could murder her and everyone else easily.
  • Batman Gambit: Her entire revenge plan relied on Princess Twilight coming to the human world to save her friends, and she knew how she wouldn't expose Equestria to rescue them faster and would grow more scared and frustrated the more her friends suffered and died. It was all ultimately to lure her into a trap, so she could drain her magic for herself.
  • Desecrating the Dead: After she killed Chrysalis and Tirek and stole their magic, she took Chrysalis' horn and used it as a wand to help her channel her magic in the human world. Everyone else is disgusted by this once they realize that the wand is really a horn.
  • Eviler than Thou: She tricked and killed her former partners Chrysalis and Tirek, stealing their magic for herself as part of her revenge plan.
  • Eyelash Fluttering: She does this at Diamond Tiara before asking her if she'd like to take her up on her previous offer to kiss.
  • Faking the Dead: She, Chrysalis, and Tirek were all reported to have died after escaping their stone prison, apparently killing each other after an argument. It turns out these are actually their human counterparts. Cozy killed them, dragged them through the portal, and arranged them to look like they killed each other, so everyone in Equestria would believe she was dead.
  • False Friend: She befriended Sunset Shimmer under the false identity Heather Heart, all so she could get close to her and her group of friends and eventually lure enough of them into a trap to take revenge on Princess Twilight.
  • Fangirl: After Sunset Shimmer introduced her to the Danganronpa games she fell completely in love with them. She would guess the outcome of trials, share her thoughts and theories with Sunset, share who she wanted to live and die, and even picked Junko Enoshima as her favorite character. She loved it so much she used it as the premise of her revenge. Basically just her living out her favorite game with herself as the Mastermind.
  • Fantastic Racism: She considers the pony world the "real" world and the human counterparts "fakes". So when she reveals herself, she refers to the pony counterparts of everyone as the real ones, much to their annoyance.
  • Humiliation Conga: The "Everyone Lives" chapter of Lost Memories does this to her. No matter what she tries, all her plans and manipulations end up failing, and she can't get a single passenger dead. She grows more frustrated with each attempt, only to end up sinking into a depression by the end, allowing herself to be arrested without a fight after her last ditch plan also fails.
  • Killing Your Alternate Self: She killed her human counterpart, as well as her parents (who happened to be the human counterparts of Chrysalis and Tirek) to use their bodies as part of her faking her own death.
  • "Take That!" Kiss: She comments to Diamond Tiara that the two of them never got to kiss, reminding her of when she made the offer as Monoponi, and asks if she would like to "make up for lost time" before puckering up and making kissing noises at Tiara to taunt her. Tiara just gets a green face and begs her no, to which Cozy shrugs playfully and says it is her loss.
  • Taking You with Me: When it becomes clear she has lost against everyone, she uses the last of her magic to activate the nuke that Princess Twilight brought with her, believing that with the Avenger destroyed they will all die together. But this final act fails when everyone gets word from Shining that he has a seaplane and can save them, with all of them escaping and leaving Cozy to die alone.
  • Villains Want Mercy: As everyone begins to escape after the final trial, with only a few minutes left before the nuke goes off, Cozy begs Sunset to take her with them, saying that the good guy like her is always supposed to offer the villain a final chance and screaming that she is sorry. Sunset just flips her off one last time and tells her to go to hell before leaving her behind.
  • Walking Spoiler: It is essential impossible to discuss anything about her role in the story without revealing she is the Mastermind of the Killing Game, or how she set everything up.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: It turns out she was playing this for almost the entire game. Despite having put a lot of careful planning into her revenge and setting everything up, even planning on who would kill whom for each trial and who would be the survivors, things start to fall apart for her almost immediately. The culprits try to kill their victims in different ways then she had originally planned and the passengers don't behave anything like she wanted them to, including several of them hooking up as couples early on. She manages to stay ahead through adapting and thinking of new motives to use for the right situation, but her plans still have a high chance of failure to them if anything unexpected occurs.
