The protagonist of the School Trip. A highly proficient baseball athlete recruited by Hope's Peak Academy. Tired and having lost enthuisiasm for the sport he feels he was forced into, he seeks to find something that he has a passion for and to forge the path to his own future.
  • Ascended Extra: While in Canon he ended up being executed as the first culprit. He's the protagonist of the story in this version.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Is attending the same school as Sayaka, the leader of his favourite idol group.
  • Character Catchphrase: Will often utter the phrase 'Freakin' lush' out of annoyance.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: While Rantaro is usually somewhat stoic and often a tad snarky, Leon wears his emotions on his sleeves, albeit sharing Rantaro's snark to an extent. In addition, Leon's talent is revealed at the start, while Rantaro's was originally a mystery.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Tends to take jabs at the members of the class who are harder to get on with.
  • Only Sane Man: Tends to react in the way a normal person would at the insanity going on around him, in addition to his snarky commentary to his less sane classmates.

The Ultimate Fortune Teller. A rather down on his luck Clairvoyant who often has his head in the clouds, and was held back in school, leading him to have 5 years of age over his classmates.
  • The Alcoholic: As the oldest member of the class, he's the only one who's legally old enough to drink alchohol.
  • Book Dumb: Ended up being held back 5 years in school because of his poor intelligence.
  • Butt-Monkey: Doesn't get much respect from his classmates, with only Sayaka, Makoto, and sometimes Leon giving him the time of day.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: His talent combined with his ditziness makes him come off this way.
  • Odd Friendship: Forms one with Sayaka, as she's the person on the island who most consistently shows him respect.

A gifted young man who interacting with is generally a displeasurable experience. Recruited by Hope's Peak Academy for his proficiency in Neurosience, is also in a relationship with Ryoko Otonashi.
  • Childhood Friends: He and Ryoko have known eachother since they were kids.
  • Dr. Jerk: Is an extremely skilled neurologist who's also incredibly rude and cold to people.
  • Jerkass: Often acts abrasively towards the students, and is fairly quick to anger.
  • Morality Pet: While he's generally cold and abrasive, he'll often drop his Jerkass tendencies around Ryoko.
  • Official Couple: He's been dating Ryoko since middle school.

     Byakuya Togami

The heir to the Togami Family, a extremely rude and narcissistic man with an abysmally low opinion of everyone who doesn't share his family name. Scouted by Hope's Peak for his financial management skills and high networth. He's the victim of Chapter 1. Murdered by Ryoko in the process of planning his own murder.
  • Fiction 500: His family is stated to be one of the richest in over a century, with them owning countless businesses across the globe. It's also stated that Jabberwock Hotel, something that most of the students consider beyond luxury would be something that his family would sell off without a second thought.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: The only person who has a positive word to say about him is Syo, and she can't exactly be called a good judge of character.
  • Hate Sink: A rude, egotistical, snobbish prick who treats other people like garbage and acts like he's god's gift to humanity. He clearly isn't meant to be liked.
  • Jerkass: His defining attribute, he is a massive asshole to the rest of the students, constantly verbally insulting them, with even Yasuke thinking that he goes too far in this regard in addition to not being above physical assault.
  • Leader Wannabe: Attempts to volunteer himself as the leader of the class. Yasuke shoots him down immediately.

     Hifumi Yamada

A rather obsessive and prideful young man with a vested interest in Anime, Manga and Video Games. His skill in artistry and writing ability lead him to be scouted by Hope's Peak as the Ultimate Fanfic Creator.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: A platonic varient with Celestia. While he doesn't show over romantic interest in her, she acts colder to him than the other students, also looking down upon his talent and hobbies.
  • Hidden Depths: He's good enough at drawing manga to impress Celestia, who otherwise has little respect for him. He's also able to draw at a surprisingly fast speed.
  • Insufferable Genius: Downplayed, while he does show open pride in his work and has a fairly high opinion of himself, it never gets particularly irritating for anyone on the island barring Celestia.
  • Otaku: A given with his ultimate talent and passion for anime and manga.
  • Shared Family Quirks: The background of his hobbies are explained by both of his parents occupations, with his mom working in an anime studio and his dad having worked as a mangaka.

     Mondo Owada

A rough around the edges delinquent who stands for people's rights to freedom. Became the head of the most respected Biker Gang in Japan after his brother retired from the position.
  • Face of a Thug: He looks pretty rogueish, but has a good heart, and is one of the students Leon gets along best with innitially.
  • Gag Penis: Compared to all of the other male students vehicular metaphors for their junk size, Mondo has a monster truck.
  • Japanese Delinquents: Lampshaded in the introduction. Leon identifies him with the nickname Yakuza, before he learns his actual name.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He can be pretty insensitive to people he dislikes, and he's easy to rile up, but he ultimately cares about a lot of his classmates, and proves to be protective of Chihiro.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Downplayed He mentions that he's hotwired and stolen a few vehicles with his gang, but he also states that he's only done it to rival gangs.

A shy and quiet young girl who will often fall into the background. Recruited by the academy for her skills regarding technology and programming.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Given that he's the ultimate programmer this is a given.
  • Older Than He Looks: Lampshaded in the introduction, before Leon learns his actual name, he identifies him with the nickname 'Kid' due to his childlike appearance.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Easily the youngest looking of the students, resulting in a lot of them, such as Mondo, being protective over them.
  • Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Played With, as what unsettling is less the fact that he's a cross dresser, and more that Leon learns it when he walks in on him in the men's changing room.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Much like in canon, "she" is actually revealed to be a he who wears girls clothing in an attempt to avoid being bullied.

The Ultimate Pop Sensation, a optimistic girl who seeks to see everyone shine the brightest that they can, and live up to their full potential.
  • Childhood Friends: She and Makoto have known eachother since Middle School. However she was substantially more popular than he was.
  • Idol Singer: Her Ultimate Talent.
  • Nice Girl: She's polite to a fault, optimistic about everyone in the class, rarely gets angry and thinks the world of her fans, always trying to be friendly to them. She's also quick to befriend Hiro.
  • Odd Friendship: Hits it off well with Hiro, of all people. It can possibly be traced to sympathy for him, as most the class sees him as an idiot.

     Aoi Asahina

A bubbly and hyperactive girl who is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Her low intelligence is compensated for by her skills in a wide variety of athletic activities, most notably those linked to water sports.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Is attending the same school as and is classmates with Leon, her favourite baseball star.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Leon notes upon seeing her that her large breasts are the most notable feature of hers.
  • Genki Girl: Is usually hyperactive and upbeat, especially in regard to sports and food.
  • Nice Girl: Openly friendly with the most of her class, and is quick to make friends with other people.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: She's naturally talented at a lot of different physical activities, and shows great enthuisasm for sports. This contrasts her with Leon.

     Mukuro Ikusaba

A stoic and somewhat blunt and socially inept person who nontheless has a good heart. Her unparraled agility and combat prowess has earned her the title of Ultimate Soldier.
  • Action Girl: A given with her talent
  • Adaptational Heroism: Isn't working with her sister to bring about the apocalypse in this story.
  • Child Soldier: Her Ultimate Talent
  • The Leader: Ends up volunteering herself as the leader of the students at the beginning of the game and proves to be a competent, level headed authority figure.
  • Nice Girl: Once you get past her bluntness and intimidating aura, she proves to be caring and level headed.
  • No Social Skills: Due to her time in the military, meaning that she wasn't able to develop socially, she's not that good at holding conversations that don't involve her talent.

     Kyoko Kirigiri

The daughter of Hope's Peak Academy's apparent Headmaster, and a member of a famous family of detectives. Scouted by Hope's Peak for her intelligence, keen eye for detail and analytical proficiency.
  • Brutal Honesty: Tends not to mince words around the other students and what she thinks of them.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Previously introduced during Part 1 of Class Switch when a picture of her and the principle is found inside his dorm room.
  • Great Detective: Her Ultimate Talent, hereted from a long line of them.
  • The Stoic: Doesn't emote very often, rarely raising her voice and showing no sort of expressiveness with her face.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Implied. Comparing her in present day to a picture of her as a child, it's clear to see that she isn't anywhere near as cheerful as she was as a kid.

     Ryoko Otonashi

A brash and haughty young woman who goes under the alias Junko Enoshima in public. Scouted by the academy as the Ultimate Fashion Model. She's the culprit of Chapter 1. Murdering Byakuya in order to help Yasuke get his memories of the past 5 years restored.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Isn't the leader of Ultimate Despair unlike in canon.
  • Hypocritical Humour: Pokes fun at Aoi's bust size at one point, it quickly being pointed out that she has the bigger breasts between the 2 of them.
  • Jerkass to One: Cruel to one example, she isn't exceptionally friendly to any of the other students, however the only one of the students she's actively rude to is Mukuro, with any sort of vitriol towards the other students largely stemming from them instigating an argument.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Probably the most physically attractive member of the class. Given her occupation, this does make sense.
  • Official Couple: Is in a relationship with Yasuke.

     Celestia Ludenburg

The Ultimate Gambler, a deceitful and arrogant girl with a cold demeanor surrounding her. She was scouted by the academy for her good luck and pokerface.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Lampshaded by Leon in the intro, who refers to her as Goth, before learning her actual name.
  • Foreign Exchange Student: States that she's coming from France to Japan to study at Hope's Peak for an exchange program.
  • Jerkass: Not as prominent as other students, such as Byakuya and Yasuke, but she's still fairly cold and egotistical.
  • Lazy Bum: Flat out sat around playing Poker with a group of Monokuma in the casino, while everyone else investigated the hotel.
  • Professional Gambler: Her Ultimate Talent.

     Toko Fukawa

Hope's Peak's own Ultimate Writing Prodigy, a panicky and distrustful girl who seeks escape from the troubles in her life with literature. Attending the School Trip alongside her twin sister.
  • Child Prodigy: Is noted to have been skilled at literature and writing since a younger age than most of the other students.
  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to Syo's Cain. While Toko isn't perfect, you are automatically this when your sibling is a literal serial killer.
  • Decomposite Character: She and Syo are twin siblings instead of the latter being the former's split personality.
  • Nervous Wreck: She speaks with a constant stutter and generally acts as though she's on the verge of having a panic attack.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Aside from their appearance, she and Syo couldn't be any different. She's a Nervous Wreck with no sort of self esteem who refuses to trust other people, while Syo's an Ax-Crazy lunatic who often alienates people to the point where no one trusts her.

     Syo Fukawa

An extremely violent and deranged girl who is the twin sister of Toko Fukawa. Over the course of 6 years she has racked up a body count of over 600 different men.
  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to Toko's Abel. While Toko isn't perfect, Syo is a literal serial killer who clearly hates her sister with a passion.
  • Decomposite Character: She and Toko are twin siblings instead of the former being the latter's split personality.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Tries to act friendly to the other students, but it's clear that through her awful treatment of her sister and veiled threats to the classmates that she's anything but friendly
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Aside from their appearance, she and Toko couldn't be any different. She's an Ax-Crazy lunatic who often alienates people to the point where no one trusts her, while Toko's a Nervous Wreck with no sort of self esteem who refuses to trust other people.
  • Serial Killer: Her Ultimate Talent.

     Sakura Ogami

A confident and prideful, but nontheless friendly young woman who's appearance may create confusion regarding her gender. Sakura is well versed in a variety of different styles of combat and Unmatched in strength.
  • Action Girl: When your Ultimate Talent is the Ultimate Martial Artist, it's a given really.
  • Amazonian Beauty: An absolute behemoth who's large muscle mass is her main charm point, and is also attractive enough to have a boyfriend. For referance, the only other female student that's currently in a relationship is Ryoko.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: When first meeting her, Leon innitially expressed confusion regarding her gender, until he saw her coming out of a women's changing room.
  • Nice Girl: Once you get past her threatening appearance, she's a complete sweetheart and a loyal friend.
  • World's Best Warrior: Her Ultimate Talent.
