Main Characters

    Noriko Kurosawa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/noriko.jpeg
Voiced by: Erika Harlacher

"I'll find her... I'll find her... I'll find her...! I'll kill her...! I'll kill her...!"

Clever. Stoic. Manipulative. These three words describe Noriko better than any others. She's an introverted young woman with a single ambition: to escalate Corpse Girl's name to dizzying heights of fame.

The only person Noriko seems to truly care for is Aoi, a friend from her school days. Everyone else in her life is simply fuel to stoke Corpse Girl's violent flames.

  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: She's incredibly aloof and uncaring for other people and has long black hair.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Turns out, she never actually succeeded in killing anyone as Corpse Girl. All of the deaths attributed to her were actually done by the Human Removal Service.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her father and older sister were abusive, her mother committed suicide, she was bullied in school during childhood and her love interest rejected her. Needless to say, she is not a very sane person.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Dresses like one.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: She deeply cares for Aoi despite her evil intentions.
  • Laughing Mad: She gives a rather... chilling one when she finds out her own death has been requested.
  • Lipstick-and-Load Montage: As part of her daily routine, she does this before going to work.
  • Madness Mantra: "I'll find her... I'll find her... I'll find her...! I'll kill her...! I'll kill her...!"
  • Not So Stoic: Despite her stoic exterior, she can be lost under anxiety and despair.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Noriko has red eyes and secretly murders innocent people.
  • Sanity Slippage: Not that she's terribly composed to start with, but she gets more and more lost in character as Corpse Girl as the game progresses.
  • Villain Protagonist: She's the primary character driving the narrative and who most of the game is spent following despite her status as Corpse Girl.

    Kojiro
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kojiro.jpeg
Voiced by: Aleks Le

"You're so self-important. Both you and Corpse Girl."

A detached and awkward morgue attendant. Kojiro's nights are spent hunched over cadavers, and his days blur together as dark rooms and morbid tomes claim his attention.

He idolizes Corpse Girl, that enigmatic killer he has read so much about online. What he wouldn't give to meet her just once...

  • Character Catchphrase: "Mad."
  • Faking the Dead: Actually survives cutting off his own arm and then having the morgue set on fire with him inside of it.
  • I Love the Dead: He has some very... complicated feelings toward corpses. They extend to keeping, and kissing the body of, his dead girlfriend.
  • No Social Skills: To say working in the morgue had done a number on him would be an understatement. He finds talking to cadavers more entertaining than to living people.
  • Only One Name: Only his first name is given.
  • Mad Love: He is so in love with Noriko that he is willing to cut his own arm off, In the Epilogue, he had planned to become the head of the Human Removal Service to shut it down, as a final act of love to Noriko.
  • The Man Behind the Man: As Nobel Sinclair, he wrote the photo manipulation book which, along with his shrine to his dead girlfriend, caused Noriko to become Corpse Girl, and eventually becomes the boss of the Human Removal Service, making him Aoi's boss.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Sees Noriko as one to Shizuku, his deceased girlfriend.
  • Secret Identity: "Kojiro" is actually the secret identity of none other than Nobel Sinclair himself, an identity he created after his old home burned down and he was presumed dead. As the leader of the Human Removal Service, however, he uses his real name, and the epilogue reveals he intends to return to his original identity completely once he publishes the events of the game.

    Aoi Satou
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aoi.jpeg
"I know you better than anyone... I know everything about you."

Though she appears meek and withdrawn, Aoi possesses a fierce streak that few people ever see. She relies on Noriko a bit too much, yet she has no idea of Noriko's role in the murders plaguing Tokyo.

  • Bespectacled Cutie: She wears a pair of glasses and is just plain adorable.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She can be very scary when pushed too far, as shown in her voice acting video. She shows slight annoyance when she tries to explain to Emi what the purpose of the website is. She downright admits that she was thinking of using the website on someone she dislikes, but was unable to bring herself to do it.
  • Break the Cutie: It is revealed that Aoi's dad slit her throat and she survived. Ever since then, she has viewed herself as a dead person.
  • Childhood Friends: Downplayed. She and Emi graduated high school together, though Emi barely remembers her.
  • Consummate Liar: She's extremely good at manipulating people, often interweaving between truth and fiction effortlessly to make her lies sound more natural.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Development Log #3 mentions her having gone through some awful things in the past.
  • Establishing Character Moment: When Emi bumps into her, she's the one to apologize first, even though Emi was the one to bump into her. When Emi tries to walk away, Aoi prevents her from doing so by holding her in a strong grip, showing she's not as weak as she seems.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has blonde hair and is one of the nicest characters in the game. She helps out Emi after she gets fired, and even tells her about Corpse Girl's Website if she wants revenge. She's also friends with Noriko, of all people.
  • Hidden Disdain Reveal: She secretly resents Noriko for having what she believes to be a far better life than her own.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: She is the nicest character in the prologue and has blue eyes.
  • Loss of Identity: Her goal is to take Noriko's life as her own, and upon doing so she has no recollection of who she actually is anymore.
  • Nice Girl: To say she is an absolute sweetheart would be an understatement. On the surface.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's painfully shy, even more than Kojiro.
  • Tareme Eyes: She has a pair to emphasize her shy and kind nature.

    Tomoe Watanabe

Voiced by: Faye Mata

"So, we gotta protect yeh from Corpse Girl, right?"

Brash and brazen Tomoe has seemingly made it her life's goal to harass and torment Noriko at every opportunity. Perhaps she doesn't like Noriko's attitude, or perhaps she's simply jealous–either way, Noriko is becoming extremely tired of the constant bullying.

  • Alpha Bitch: She constantly makes Noriko's life a living hell, merely because something about rubs her in the wrong way. Then again, she not entirely wrong...
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other; Her relationship with Shinya shows that she truly adores him. When Noriko asks if "they've gone all the way", Tomoe confirms they haven't because Shinya is an old fashioned gentleman, which works great for her because she has only known men that want sex right away. In the Bonus Ending, she shows that breaking up with Shinya is a horrible mistake and she wants him back. He is more than happy to take her back because he missed her too.
  • The Bully: She creates conflicts with Noriko every time they bump into each other, merely because something about Noriko rubs her in the wrong way.
  • Gyaru Girl: Let's see: Tan skin? Check. Blonde hair? Check. Over-the-top clothing? Check, check, check.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite being abrasive and foul-mouthed, she does have a right to feel tense around Noriko.
Perhaps you’ll dig a bit into Tomoe’s life during the course of the game. And maybe - just maybe - you’ll find that she’s not actually as bad as she seems on the surface...
    • This is later confirmed as Tomoe wants to be friends with Noriko and invites her to her place to avoid Corpse Girl and they have a wonderful girls night together.
    • In one ending, Tomoe teaches Noriko how to cook because Tomoe had to cook for her siblings.

    Junpei Matsumoto
Voiced by: Kaiji Tang

A secret character who hasn’t been announced, yet he appears to be one of the main characters...

  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He truly does love Aoi.
  • Fat Bastard: He is a member of the Human Removal Service.
  • Love Martyr: For most of the story, it seems that Aoi is the foolish sap in love with a villain who doesn't love her back. The truth is almost the opposite. It's Junpei who is in love with Aoi, and Aoi is the one who couldn't care less about him!

Others

    Shinya Fujikawa
Voiced by: Sean Chiplock

"I don't know where you get your courage... Perhaps I could stand to learn a thing or two from you."

A coworker of Noriko and Tomoe, and the latter's boyfriend.

  • Nice Guy: From what we've seen of his personality so far, he's really friendly towards others and seems pretty down when he tells Noriko a person from their company died.
  • Shrinking Violet: His sprite gives him a weak willed appearance, and asks for lessons of courage in the trailer.

    Emi Katsuno

The main character in the prologue. She's a dropout who works in a retail store to pay off her large debt. If that wasn't enough, she has to deal with her horrible co-workers everyday.

  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: She's the protagonist of the prologue. It doesn't last long.
  • The Bully: Used to bully Noriko when they were in school.
  • Butt-Monkey: Dear lord, does this girl go through a lot. She's a college dropout who's deep in debt, and lives in a crappy apartment in a bad neighborhood. She has to work with the worst co-workers anyone could have, and in the prologue, gets framed for trying to steal money and loses her job. When she tries to use the website to get revenge on Kurosawa, the one who planned it, she ends up being a victim of the website first.
  • The Cynic: Who wouldn't be when you have work with those delinquents of co-workers and live in a apartment filled with dangerous people around you?
  • Decoy Protagonist: She dies in the end of the prologue.
  • Driven to Suicide: At the end of the prologue, Emi jumps from her apartment floor and lands headfirst onto the ground after seeing her own corpse.
  • Graceful Loser: As she's dying, one of her final thoughts is thinking how Kurosawa must have found out about the website and submitted her photo first. Her response? "Well played, Kurosawa".
  • Precision F-Strike: Emi lets out quite a few curse words in her dialogue, most notably when she calls Kurosawa a bitch in front of her as she's getting fired.
  • Stress Vomit: Emi throws up after seeing the bodybag at her door.

    Yuriko Kurosawa
Voiced by: Lizzie Freeman

Emi's senior co-worker who appears in the prologue.

  • Alpha Bitch: While Emi’s co-workers are all generally unlikeable, Kurosawa stands out. She bullies homeless people at the train station and steals from stores. In the prologue itself, she tricks Emi into processing a fake refund and frames her for trying to steal the money.
  • Big Brother Bully: Bullied Noriko during their childhood.
  • Gold Digger: According to Emi.
Emi: She seems to have a new sugar daddy every few weeks, some poor old fool that she strings along and milks dry.
  • Jerkass: Kurosawa is so much of an asshole that Emi is certain she's been to jail a few times.
  • Karmic Death: Uses the Corpse Girl website to silence Emi and her coworkers, but is killed by the same way because Emi requested her death minutes before dying.
  • Kick the Dog: As Emi is getting fired and thrown out the store, Kurosawa has the audacity to rub it in:
Kurosawa: See you around, Emi! Oh, well, I guess not, hey? Ah ha...
    • Later, Kurosawa sends Emi a photo of herself holding the stolen money and having a shit-eating grin on her face. This becomes her undoing.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Sending her photo just to spite Emi was a big mistake as she had enough time to request Yuriko's death before dying.

    Manami Sachiko
Voiced by: Aimee Smith

Emi's co-worker who appears in the prologue.

  • Exhausted Eyebags: Sachiko sports a pair in the prologue, which she claims is from not getting enough sleep.
  • Friendless Background: Before she worked at the clothing store, Sachiko apparently didn't have friends.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Sachiko seemingly decides to resign from her job and focus on becoming a better person, even going so far as to apologizing to Emi. It's subverted when she helps Kurosawa frame Emi, and it's revealed to be a lie.
  • Jerkass: Sachiko takes her anger out on customers by slapping them.
  • She Knows Too Much: Yuriko request her death to silence her.

    Fuyumi Amano
Voiced by: Erika Harlacher

Emi's junior who appears in the prologue.

  • Jerkass: Amano is just plain rude, yet compared to Sachiko and Kurosawa, she’s probably a saint. Regardless, she still helps the others frame Emi for trying to steal money.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Subverted. She has pink hair and is far from being a pleasant person.
  • She Knows Too Much: Yuriko request her death to silence her.
  • The Stoic: She has a bored look on her face throughout the prologue.

    Hirota
Voiced by: Sean Chiplock

Emi's boss.

  • What Happened to the Mouse?: His subordinates all end up as victims of Corpse Girl, which would surely have a pretty big effect on his business. However, Hirota is never seen or even mentioned after the prologue.

    Momo Ogawa
Voiced by: Lizzie Freeman

    Detective Fujikawa
Voiced by: June Yoon

    Kotomi Ida
Voiced by: Aimee Smith

  • Blackmail: On both ends of this. Kotomi uses her status within the company to harass Shinya, but ends up being blackmailed by the Corpse Girl.
  • Mrs. Robinson: She's 41-years old and has a crush on Shinya, who is 20-years old.

    Asuna Kurosawa
Voiced by: Aimee Smith

The mother of Noriko and Yuriko.

  • Driven to Suicide: Hanged herself (with the help of a clueless Noriko). However, the Hell Ending reveals that she survived, albeit ended up in a vegetative state.

    Kenji Ogawa
Voiced by: Alec Shea

  • The Scapegoat: Noriko uses his internet connection knowing that, if the police track her down her website, he will take the blame in her place.
