Human Realms

    open/close all folders

    General
  • The Determinator: Their racial trait in the Codexverse, thanks to their progenitor. Individual Human beings may falter and fail, but as a whole, Humanity will never, EVER, give up.
  • Humanity Is Superior: Subverted. While they are one of the 'Great Races' of Equus, they still lagged behind other races in certain areas as they surpass other races in certain areas. Their remarkability lies in the fact they managed to accomplished as much as they had despite their handicaps through ingenuity and determination.
  • Humans Are Bastards: Subverted. While Humans are capable of great evil as the likes of Pit Viper and Hydia demonstrated, they are actually surpassed in terms of how 'bastardy' they are by other races, such as Dragons and Diamond Dogs in greed, Griffons and Chimpanzees in aggression, Changelings in deceit, among others. Even the Poenans recognised Humans are no more or less evil than any other sapient races and thus should be judged on a fair case-by-case basis rather than condemned as evil as a whole.
  • Our Giants Are Different: Human Giants exists as the mortal children of Vincere, the Homidivum of Domination, their racial progenitors. Like other giants they share the same inclinations towards gluttony, aggression and dominance, with some Human Giants in particular being close to their mother goddess in that last aspect.
  • Our Humans Are Different: Humans in the Equusian universe are quite different from Humanity of Real Life or other universes in multiple ways, having a creator goddess in Eres, being older as a species by tens of millions of years (although it's been noted baseline Humans had been recreated multiple times), many of them capable of magic or possessing superpowers, and many of them having radically different histories, cultures and mindsets which while recognisable still sets them apart from Human readers in Real Life and other races in-universe.
  • Older Than They Look: It's noted Humanity in the Equusian universe in their modern form had been around much longer than their Real Life counterparts thanks to Eres' presence, although the most modern iteration seen in the Ages of Known History is still roughly as old as modern Humanity on Earth as a species, being provolved/created around 300,000 years ago.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Disappeared multiple times from Equus throughout Known History and before that, but always come back in one form or another. With the 'Human Exodus' of the Fourth Age they're officially back on a large scale. In the First Age however how they disappeared by its end is not clear, although Eres' departure through a Starhenge with her remaining followers to escape Abaddon's influence and Abaddon himself may have something to do with it.

Eresean Empire

    General
  • The Cavalry: When Queen Majesty died and Ponyland as well as Paradise Estate were beleagured by the former's resurgent enemies, the Ereseans sent an expeditionary force to aid them, led by an avatar of Matriarch/Empress Eres herself out of respect for the late Queen Majesty.
  • The Empire: Closer to this than the Hegemonic Empire Paradise Estate would eventually become, but still better than many of its contemporaries.
  • Foil: To Paradise Estate. Both were realms founded/ruled by determined individuals who wishes the best of their friends and the world and were cosmopolitan realms which went on to become world-spanning empires. What differs them from each other is that the Eresean Empire is much more hardline, ruthless, militant and expansionist in its approach and had subtle human favouritism, which contrasts the more noble and more egalitarian Paradise Estate. The Ereseans were also at least initially much more well-established and powerful than Paradise Estate was before they eventually catched up.
  • Our Giants Are Different: Many different kinds of Human Giants live in the Eresean Empire as subjects, with notable groups/factions of them serving in the Empire's army. While many of them are genuinely or capable of being honourable, amiciable and virtuous, they are still the children of Vincere and is reflected in their temperament to varying degree.
    • There are some tribes of smaller Human Giants used to live in mountainous lands within and beyond the Eresean Empire, small by Giant standards being somewhat double the height of an average Human but no less strong and ferocious. They are well known for their skill with the sling, which they used to hunt and defend their territory, and are often employed as living artillery troops.
    • The Grand Maidens are a matriarchal order of Human Giant warrioresses who once guarded and patrolled the breadth and far reaches of the Eresean Empire battling and crushing threats to its people and territories. They are noted to be honourable in conduct and could be surprisingly friendly and approachable, but are also capable of being aggressive and ruthless towards their enemies, wiping out entire realms in retaliatory rampages for offences against the Ereseans and their allies, with any who stand in their way killed or devoured and the survivors and their lands annexed into the empire. Their reputation as The Dreaded is such that some parents of non-Eresean realms and peoples use the threat of being eaten by them to make their children behave.
  • The Rival: An Always Someone Better one to Paradise Estate for much of its history, although they do ally with each other against worser threats on many occasions.
  • Suffer the Slings: Certain tribes of smaller Human Giants who live in mountainous lands are famous for their skill with the sling, allowing them to throw melon or head-sized rocks against opponents with devastating effect which they used to hunt game and defend their territories. Some are employed in the Eresean Empire's vast armies to serve as living artillery troops, capable of devastating entire ranks of enemy infantry in a single barrage.

    Eres, the Matriarch of Mankind

Classification: Ascendant/Ethereal/Elemental, Parental Deity

Portfolio: Humanity, Fire, Intellect, Vision, Mastery

Rank: Divine (Preeminent)

Humanity, the Homidivum, Eresean Empire (First Age)

"If ambition is like a fire, then humanity must cling to that fire like a jealous miser, for they have nothing else."

Eres (her entry here) is the Human goddess of Humanity, Fire, Intellect, Vision, and Mastery. More importantly, she is the ancient progenitor of Humanity on Equus. A complex figure with a mysterious past, vast power and knowledge, and an implacable and determined will, Eres, the Matriarch of Mankind’s unquestionable love and unrelenting efforts to protect and ensure her children would rise to greatness would leave an indelible mark upon both Humankind and the wider world over the ages, for both good or ill.

While her existence and history spanned tens of millions of years before Known History, she is most notably known in the First Age as the founder of the mighty Eresean Empire, serving as both a rival and a mentor figure to Megan Williams, the future Rainbow Empress of Paradise Estate/Empire.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: She was more bemused than outraged by her impressive figure being used as a figure of speech or curse words by her mortal subjects, and had been shown to let it slide in her earshot.
  • Anti-Hero: When not an Anti-Villain, Eres is this.
  • The Anti-Nihilist: A firm subscriber of this due to her status as The Determinator. She didn't know why or how she was brought to Equus, but she was determined to make the most of it, and to create a purpose for herself if she found none. She takes a dim view on those who either care little for their purpose in life or and decry it as meaningless.
  • Anti-Villain: Eres is not bad, but her character flaws often cause her to act in questionable ways which while make sense to her puts her in conflict with more heroic characters.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: She's a Human goddess who embodies Humanity, Fire, Intellect, Vision, and Manipulation.
  • Child Prodigy: She was this well before adolescence, with her brilliance actively cultivated from her adoption by the Grand Primevals and their divine scions, celestial servants and mortal followers.
  • Control Freak: Implied to be this to a point. Due to her experiences Matriarch Eres takes on a more 'Hands-On' approach to guiding her mortal children than many of her peers like King Equus, believing she knows what's best for her people and she must take charge to ensure they could rise to their full potential. Every time she shows up she try to bring all Humans within her sights under her rule/guidance, often whether they like it or not.
  • The Dreaded: Implied by reputation as someone who should not be trifled with between her remarkable accomplishments, vast power and experience, and unrelenting determination. To note, she became this for Morning Star during the Twilight of the Alicorns after she nearly killed him with a trap involving detonating a supernova in his face, an experience which made the infamously prideful Fallen Alicorn take her with inconsiderable apprehension and complete seriousness from then on.
  • Determinator: She is infamous for her unrelenting determination to succeed or overcome, which many of her divine and mortal children shared or inherited.
  • Dueling Messiahs: With Megan Williams, the Rainbow Empress. Both wish the best for the world and their people, but have very different approaches in regards to it and are very steadfast in their respective positions. This led to reluctant rivalry and even conflict between the two rulers and their realms.
  • Divine Parentage: By adoption, the Grand Primevals themselves, who raised her with love but also pulled all the stops to cultivate her potential. She also sired whether literally or figuratively various Human deities and demigods such as the Homidivum, the first gods of Humanity.
  • Escaped from the Lab: One of the theories of her origins, that she was the product of accelerated by evolution by unknown parties who may or may not foresaw the coming of Humanity, which would explain how she and Humanity which followed her appeared much earlier than they could have had.
  • Ethnic God: She created Humankind on Equus and serve as their ultimate embodiment in the Codexverse. If she say someone or something is human or being human, then it is so by divine decree, and vice versa if she felt some human's crimes warrant being kicked out of the human species.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Eres unconditionally loved Humanity, but even she cannot tolerate crimes committed by her mortal children whom she deemed to be beyond the pale. The atrocities and experiments committed by Pit Viper of Cassytharea for example were so horrific she more or less disowned him as a Human being, and gave the dragons of the human-dragon joint kingdom the go-ahead to raze it to the ground on the condition they stick to their promise to spare the innocent humans of the realm.
  • For Your Own Good: What Eres believes of her way of doing things for her mortal children and the world as a whole.
  • From Zero to Hero: Eres went from a lost, confused and frigtened toddler found wandering in the wilds of primeval times to Codexverse's progenitor of Humankind and one of the greatest gods of her generation.
  • Good Is Not Nice: She loves her people unconditionally and is firmly on the side of the greater good of Equus and existence, but she is noted to be less forgving or compromising as King Equus of Equidkind, and not afraid to do some questionable things to protect her people and the world as a whole.
  • God Empress: The ruling divine sovereign of the Eresean Empire in the First Age of Known History, and had directly ruled over many Human species and civilization before then due to her 'hands-on' approach, such as one of several intergalactic Vast and Venerable Human Empire which once rivaled the Alicorn Civilization in power and reach.
  • Humanity Is Superior: Subverted. While Eres unconditionally loves Humanity and is noted to have a subconscious Human favouritism, she does not subscribe to Human supremacism, having been taught the folly of such beliefs by her Grand Primeval adoptive parents early on. She is also realistic about Humanity's limits, knowing full well there are many things that other races do better than Humanity as much as Humanity surpasses others in other areas. Her Eresean Empire was remarkable for the cosmopolitanism for its time.
  • Hot God: Eres, being not just a but THE first Human goddess and the embodiment of Humanity in the Codexverse, is noted to be this by Human standards, possessing a 'perfect' default mature Human female form which was admired by even Humans who are not ruled by her nor acknowledge her as the progenitor of Humanity. On a more hilarious side, this also caused parts of her body had been used as figures of speech and vulgar expressions.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: The few fights the Williams Siblings and their friends/allies have against Matriarch Eres directly effectively become this, as thanks to being a Preeminent-level god-empress with power, knowledge, and experience to match and being The Ace even by divine standards made her more or less far more dangerous than most of their villainous foes combined. The goal in such situations were not so much winning but simply lasting long enough for her to be force to forfeit by something else or be persuaded to stand down by her own volition, such as in one instance being presented evidence by the Moorchick (one of the few beings she respected enough to listen to) that she and her empire had been manipulated into conflict against the Paradiseans.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: How she justifies many of her questionable actions. She's not happy about doing any of them, but will do so if there are no alternatives.
  • I Have No Son!: Being less forgiving than her peer King Equus, Eres disowns any Human who commit sins that are beyond the pale, such as to the point of threatening other Humans. She effectively told off King Pit Viper of Cassytharea that he's on his own after his crimes provoked the Dragons of the joint-kingdom to the point they burnt it down. Her Ethnic God powers meant that she can do so with divine authority such that after being kicked out the human in question would effectively be not considered human, even if they still look or act like one.
  • Invincible Villain: For the Williams Siblings and their friends/allies, Matriarch Eres for much of their history presented a unique challenge in that they simply cannot hope to challenge her in direct confrontation even in her weakened state at the time, as she is a Preeminent-level god-empress who is The Ace in intellect and skills even by mortal/divine standards, possessed power, knowledge and experience accumulated over tens of millions of years, and had access to resources and manpower of an empire dwarfing theirs (at least initially) by far as well as powerful weapons and artifacts in her arsenal which few others have. All the notable times they were forced to fight against her were each effectively a Hopeless Boss Fight where their goal isn't so much win but last just long enough for her to be reasoned or persuaded to concede on her own volition, or hope something diverts her attention and forces her to withdraw. This is helped by the fact Eres is at worst a Well-Intentioned Extremist Anti-Villain more interested in 'winning the argument' and persuading Megan to side with her than outright plotting to subjugate or destroy them, which gives the Williams and Paradise Estate chances they otherwise would not have.
  • Knight Templar Parent: She means well and wants the best of Humanity, but is noted to be overly paranoid of their safety at times and often acts like a Control Freak over them out of the belief she knows what's best for them.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Realising Megan and her friends may be more right than wrong regarding how to lead their realms and people to a better future, as well as discovering that she may be falling under the influence of her older half-brother Abaddon in her weakened state, would lead to her forfeiting her throne and empire to Megan and Paradise Estate centuries later when they had grown strong enough to match and even surpass her realm, both in acknowledgement that Megan had grown wise and powerful enough to take her place and also because she does not want to risk her falling under Abaddon's control and having her power, knowledge and experience turned against the rest of the world and her mortal children. She would subsequently depart Equus through a functional Altairequusian Starhenge with her remaining followers.
  • Mama Bear: She is noted to be highly protective of her mortal children, sometimes to the point of being overprotective, and react 'strongly' to egragious attempts to harm Humankind. A callous alien interstellar transit authority found to their detriment how much she is this trope when they informed her they wiped out a planet with a thriving Human civilization to make way for an interstellar bypass (without even bothering to give them time to appeal or evacuate). She responded by obliterating them, destroying the planet they were on, throw the remains into the sun, and finally blew up the sun and destroying the entire solar system they were in for good measure.
    • Deconstructed in the First Age when she founded and ruled the Eresean Empire. Her overprotectiveness caused her to grow Improperly Paranoid about all the threats her species were facing in that era, especially given her weakened state at the time, which caused her to make bad decisions, alienated her and her empire to many, created unnecessary conflicts and other complications, and most dangerously made her vulnerable to malignant influence seeking to subvert or control her empire.
  • Mentor Archetype: She became one and a surrogate mother figure for the Williams Siblings, especially Megan Williams, despite their disagreements and their realms' rivalry, partly because they are Human (making them her children by default) and Megan in particular because she reminded her so much of her younger self and her greatest divine and mortal scions.
  • Monster Progenitor: The mother goddess of all Humankind in the "Codex Equus" universe, having created the first Humans to ever exist after herself, and have repeatedly recreated and repopulated the world with baseline Humanity (with varying modifications) over countless ages whenever evolution or extinctions caused the previous iterations to transform beyond recognition or were wiped out.
  • Mysterious Past: NO ONE knows where did Eres came from. From what can be determined, she was just found one day wandering the primeval wilderness as a lost, frightened and confused toddler by scions of the Grand Primevals sent to retrieve her. There were unverified sources hinting that she and Humanity 'came too early', but that's about it. Theories range from being displaced from another time and place to being the product of evolution accelerating experiments guided by claivoyance. If Eres or her Grand Primevals adoptive parents know, they ain't telling anyone.
  • My Beloved Smother: Implied to be this on a species scale. Her own experiences drove her to take a more 'hands-on' approach to guiding various Human races' growth and development, often to the point of directly ruling over and leading them as a God Empress. She sincerely means her people well, and her mothering had produced spectacular results, but it had been shown to cause complications.
  • My Greatest Failure: One of Eres' biggest (if not THE biggest) was the 'Tragedy of Pandora', involving her fabled first creation and daughter Pandora, who committed a transgression which led to catastrophe and Eres banishing her from her sights. They regretted what happened even tens of millions of years later, but they remain largely apart as both felt too much had been said and done between them for amends to be possible. Some like Megan however believed it's still not too late to fix things.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She deeply regretted what happened between her and Pandora, believing she had judged her too hastily and in the process created an irrepairable rift between them despite both still loving each other. It's implied Pandora's look of shame, regret and heartbreak still haunts her and was the moment she realised she messed up on her end.
  • My Way or the Highway: One of her biggest flaws. She often believe herself to know what's best for Humanity or the situation at hand, and can be very stubborn in her decisions or actions once she made up her mind. While her age, intellect, wisdom and experience meant that she IS more often right than wrong, it makes it quite difficult to persuade her to change course on the few occasions she IS wrong.
  • Oh, Crap!: Eres was greatly alarmed when she realised in her weakened state at the time she may have fallen under the influence of Abaddon, a Fallen scion of Amareros the Love Primeval and (thanks to her adoption) older half-brother.
  • Parental Substitute: Eres was this for the Williams Siblings (and implied many others) when she started mentoring them, the Williams having lost their parents early in their lives. This extended to others, most of them Human.
  • Passing the Torch: Eres would after centuries of competition and conflict forfeit her throne and empire to Megan once she realises Megan was more right than wrong than she is about what's best for their people and world and grown wise and powerful enough to take charge, as well as the fact that Eres can't trust her own judgement to be sound anymore in the light of realising Abaddon may be secretly influencing her without her realising it.
  • Playing with Fire: As a goddess of Fire, she gave fire to nascent Humanity and can do wield fire like an extension of her body. It's noted in-universe she's considered one of if not THE best fire god of her generation of deities, having mastered (AND invented) entire schools of fire magic and is considered to be THE expert on First Flame/Primordial Plasma among her generation of gods short of the Grand Primevals or beings made of First Flame/Primordial Plasma themselves.
  • Properly Paranoid: She warned many well before of the 'Twilight of the Alicorns' that Alicornkind's growing corruption would eventually cause disaster, then made sure her species and intergalactic empire was prepared for it when her warnings fall on deaf ears. This ensured Humanity would survive the subsequent conflict and catastrophe which followed.
  • Reality Warper: Her Mastery domain allows her to do this to an extent to any environment she's firmly mastered and in control of, increasing the longer the state of affairs remain.
  • Renaissance Man: She was this even as a mortal, cultivated by her adoptive parents as well as driven to do so to compensate for her relative weakness compare to most other races.
  • Single Specimen Species: For the longest time, she was the only Human on Equus, a fact which haunted her and drove her to eventually create Humanity on Equus.
  • So Proud of You: Eres expresses unmitigated pride to Megan and her siblings for how far they had grown as heroes and leaders before departing Equus, both under her mentorship and also on their own, entrusting her with protecting Humanity on Equus and also encouraging them to find their own path to a better future where even she could not.
Matriarch Eres: Majesty was right. You have grown far beyond what we could have ever imagined. Now it rests upon you to carry on where we had failed or left behind. You must find your own path, your own dream, so you may succeed where even we cannot.
  • Star Killing: During the 'Twilight of the Alicorns', Eres attempted to kill Morning Star and many of his allies and forces in a single stroke by having her Human subjects detonate a blue giant star right in his and his fleets' faces, with Eres making sure several coronal mass ejection's worth of plasma (converted into First Flame by her magic) hit him directly. Morning Star barely survived the subsequent supernova, while his allies and forces he brought to that battle (and the entire star system they were fighting in) didn't.
  • Top God: Of Humanity, being the one who created them, by far (one of) their most powerful, knowledgeable and experienced, and often assumes a leadership role over Humanity and lesser Human gods.
  • Time Abyss: Matriarch Eres' classification is Preeminent, and she was a peer and implied friend of King Equus, the Father of All Equids. All this and other details in her entry implied she had been around for tens of millions of years.
  • Trapped in Another World: Another theory regarding her many speculated origins is that she came from an Alternate Universe where Humanity existed, displaced on Equus whether accidental or deliberate.
  • Unusual Halo: Instead of traditional holy halos, Eres (and all other Human gods such as the Homidivum) posesses a 'crowns' of hovering, orbiting stars above their heads which symbolises their status and natures as Human divines.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Matriarch Eres means well, but is an Anti-Villain with notable character flaws who often do questionable things for what she believe to be the greater good for her people and the world, which sometimes pit her into conflict with others who disagree with her.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Countless events, conflicts and disasters which happened during and after the 'Twilight of the Alicorns' had left the Preeminent-level Human mother goddess exhausted by the time of her reappearance and founding the Eresean Empire in the First Age, having barely got any time to recover her former power. That doesn't stop her from becoming one of the most powerful beings active on Equus at the time and one of the biggest challenges faced by Paradise Estate, being more dangerous than many of the villains they faced combined.

Cassytharea

Founded upon an alliance between two races, Cassytharea was a joint kingdom where Humans and Dragons coexisted and prospered together for centuries, until the hubris and hatred of its last Human ruler sundered the alliance and caused it to be burnt down. Yet those the kingdom is ashes, the dark legacy left behind would endure, well into the Fourth Age when it sprouts its insidious vines once more in the heart of another cosmopolitan Dragon-founded nation...
    General
  • The Alliance: Cassytharea began as an alliance between Humans and Dragons of the lands where they would build a joint-kingdom.
  • And Man Grew Proud: Downplayed in the Dragons and most of the Humans had nothing to do with it, but the alliance between Humans and Dragons which formed the kingdom was growing strong until the hubris and hatred of ONE man, its last Human ruler, and his enablers ruined it and led to its downfall.
  • Meaningful Name: Name is derived from Cassytha filiformis, a parasitic vine.
  • Precursor: Cassytharea was a cosmopolitan Dragon kingdom which preceded Cobbletown by tens of thousands of years, and like Cobbletown actually did pretty well until one narcissistic sociopath on the throne ruined everything.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: The Dragons who lived in the kingdom was so outraged by the atrocities committed by Pit Viper, its last Human ruler that they turned on the alliance and burnt Cassytharea to the ground. To note, the Matriarch of Mankind was so disgusted by the atrocities herself she didn't lift one finger in protest and merely used her Empire's political leverage to ensure the innocent Human population would be spared and saved from the destruction.
