New Almekia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/new_almekia.png

Located in the west of Forsena. Previously named Padstow, New Almekia was ruled by King Coel but since the state of the country was in danger, he gave the kingdom to Prince Lance to lead the country and restore the kingdom. The land here is very fertile; it is filled with grasslands and forests. Their flag is colored red.

Tropes associated with New Almekia in general:

  • Dub Name Change: The Japanese version's name of this kingdom is 'West Almekia'. Because it's the westernmost Kingdom of Forsena.
  • The Good Kingdom: Formerly the Kingdom of Padstow, and already being a goody-goody Kingdom. With the former Kingdom of Almekia being turned into Esgares Empire, the good Kingdom of Padstow changes its name into New Almekia, but keeps the Kingdom title.
  • Red Is Heroic: Flag color is red and they're by far the most heroic nation of the Forsena nation.

    Lance

Lance (Voiced by Soichiro Hoshi)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lance_by_darkslayer00_ddjgsf4_fullview.png
Class: Prince -> King

Ruler of New Almekia. Former Prince of the old Almekia who fled to Padstow after Zemeckis destroyed his Kingdom. Bright, kind, just, but kind of reckless and naive when it comes to ruling (at first). He starts out as a Level 1 Prince, but eventually can promote into a King.

  • Bling of War: Befitting his status as royalty, he wears golden armor alongside a red cape.
  • Dual Wielding: Wields two lands swords as a weapon.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Blonde, idealistic and pretty much all around Nice Guy for a Prince.
  • Magikarp Power: A Level 1 Prince might not be calling it, but he's one of the best units when he reached Level 30 King.
  • Heroic BSoD: He experiences this after New Alemekia is destroyed and conquered by the Esgares Empire and he is forced to escape to Caerleon along with Gereint and Adilicia in the second multiplayer scenario. Thankfully, he recovers after freeing the Kingdom of Padstow from Esgares with the help of Caerleon in the last multiplayer scenario.
  • Playing with Fire: His spells in Legend of Forsena. In Grand Edition, his spells are thunder-based
  • Took a Level in Badass: Once he becomes King, his stat growth rates increase and he gains a powerful area-of-effect elemental spell (Geno-Flame in Legend of Forsena, Geno-Thunder in Grand Edition).

    Gereint

Gereint (Voiced by Yutaka Nakano)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715265197_e6aefb0163.jpg
Class: Samurai

Lance's most trusted aide. He has fought over 100 battles and is widely known throughout Forsena. His master is Esclados of the Esgares' Big 4.

  • Crutch Character: Subverted. Gereint looks like this, along with Meleagant, a greatly leveled character who is just one level from promoting to the final class (Shogun)... but this is offset with how he also has tremendous Rune Power to carry the game to the end.
  • The Lancer: To Prince Lance.
  • Red Baron: Japanese-only, as explained in GE. Gereint didn't merely fight over 100 battles. His nickname is "Gereint of the 100 Battles"
  • The Rival: To Luintail of Norgard.
  • Samurai: His class (Swordmaster in Japanese)
  • Surpassed the Teacher: The 2nd multiplayer scenario has him defeating Escalados and earning the title of "Blade Master", although he rejects this in favor of continuing being a loyal retainer to Prince Lance.

    Coel

Coel (Voiced by Hideaki Esumi)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715908336_9813a10088.jpg
Class: Bishop

The old king of Padstow, loyal to Henguist and the old Almekia, so when Lance arrives, he relinquished the throne of Padstow and made it into New Almekia for Lance. He's a wise, if old, king, loved by his men.

  • Cool Old Guy: Remains quite the jovial, insightful old man despite dethroning himself.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Implies this in his battle quote.
Coel: Hahaha, retirement is so relaxing... It's easier to fight wihout carrying the weight of the country.
  • The Good King: King of Padstow and all around understanding guy for his people and his good allies at Almekia.
  • Hero of Another Story: His battle conversation with Vaynard implies this, with the later reminiscing on how he proved to be great ally to Almekia during the Great Offscreen War with Norgard.
  • Punny Name: Old King Coel is a merry old soul...
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He realizes that Lance's potential for ruling is great that he immediately relinquishes his position to serve Lance.
  • Retired Badass: Despite willing abdicating himself due to his advanced age, that doesn't stop him from fighting in the front lines as a rune knight. King Vaynard himself regards him as a Worthy Opponent.

    Meleagant

Meleagant (Voiced by Keiji Fujiwara)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715265273_52a17b2bc5.jpg
Class: Avenger

Prince of Padstow, son of Coel. While an excellent fighter, he is a bit short sighted when it comes to ruling and prefers doing things in 'Act first, think later'. He is bitter and jealous to Lance at first, but later on he eventually acknowledged that Lance is the better man.

  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Quite fond of trash talking his enemies while boasting of his power.
Meleagant: You should be honored to have the chance to face me.
Meleagant: Do you realy think any of you stand a chance against me?
  • Black Knight: He wears black armor, and his starting class is Avenger.
  • Can't Catch Up: Something he eventually admits.
  • Crutch Character: Meleagant is a powerhouse at the beginning of the game and can stand up to the powerful characters like Zemeckis and Escalados at the start, but later on, those lower leveled characters will surpass him, especially in Rune Power.
  • Tsundere: He's very dismissive to Lance, but did eventually acknowledge him if Lance isn't looking, and eventually set aside his aloofness to fight against Ouroboros. Plus, Adilicia usually could hit him on the weak spots.

    Halley

Halley (Voiced by Atsuko Tanaka)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4961376145_41d435d512.jpg
Class: Valkyrie

The lady Knight who saved Lance from imminent demise from Zemeckis. She's known as 'Shooting Star Halley' and wanders through Forsena in search of Bulnoil who killed her boyfriend Leland AKA Cador. She will join New Almekia eventually by default, but she can join any country in Grand Edition Multiplayer, or join any of your country (even Esgares or Iscalio) after unification to stand a chance against Bulnoil.

  • Big Damn Heroes: How she saved Lance from an early death by Zemeckis.
  • Crutch Character: She only offers her services to New Almekia for a short period of time. However, in multiplayer she never leaves.
  • 11th-Hour Superpower: GE exclusive, she will join any country (Esgares included) in order to stand a chance against Bulnoil and Ouroboros.
  • Lady of War: Probably one of the most badass ladies Forsena had to offer.
  • Red Baron: "Shooting Star Halley".

    Adilicia

Adilicia (Voiced by Miho Nagahori)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4961376423_2bbebd0fe0_o.jpg
Class: Lancer

A Lancer from Padstow who's usually personable, but in battle, she's known as the 'Death Lady'. She seems to be real good friends with Meleagant and often teases him. She's one of 'Three Beauties of Almekia'.

  • Blood Knight: A reserved one, but she enjoys battle.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Although she fights like a Lady of War, she's very personable and has a pretty gung-ho personality when it comes to battle.
Adilicia: I savor the chance to test my skill. You will not escape my wrath!
  • Red Baron: "Death Lady"
  • The Tease: She can press some of Meleagant's sensitive spots and make him more honest to himself. She also does that to Aphelia.
  • Implied Love Interest: To Meleagant due to them having more scenes with each other and a battle conversation if they are fought alongside each other. The fact that she has one of Meleagant's monsters (A Nightmare) after the fall of New Almekia in the 2nd Multiplayer Scenario is subtle sign.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Prince Lance. To the point that she accompanies him alongside with Gereint during the second multiplayer scenario.
  • We Used to Be Friends: If New Almekia falls, then Adilicia has a chance to encounter a fellow 'Three Beauties', Carlota, in battle (and especially in Multiplayer scenarios, where the latter is no longer with Lance, while she still is). Unlike her usual attitude, she is a bit reluctant to fight Carlota at first, but eventually resolved to fight for her country.

    Carlota

Carlota (Voiced by Tomoko Kawakami)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715908416_a07e1e8096.jpg
Class: Enchantress

A sorceress from Padstow who dreamed on being the best magician of Forsena. She cares a lot about Lance and tends to act like a big sister for him. She's one of the 'Three Beauties of Almekia' (or in fact, she started it). In the GE New Almekia ending, she ends up becoming an instructor in magic studies of Almekia, alongside Gilsus.

  • Ambiguous Situation: The reasons on how she's with Norgard instead of Lance in Caerleon in Multiplayer Scenario 2 can be ambiguous, boiling down to several plausible reasons:
    • She lost faith with Lance due to losing a majority of Padstow Knights entrusted to him, a lot of them were her friends (including her fellow 'Three Beauties' Aphelia, and magic user and future co-magic instructor Gilsus), which got killed during Esgares' invasion (even the usually surviving ones like Batercus or Loufal were not spared). Because of this, she ends up joining Norgard, fresh from defeating Leonia, and thus had the greatest manpower to take on Esgares.
    • She was last located in Gorule, which bordered with Norgard, and was defeated in the same time as Esgares wiped out New Almekia, thus she thought Lance was dead and her only option was to join the neighboring Norgard, plotting her vengeance against Esgares. By the time Scenario 3 rolled in and Esgares defeated, she found out that Lance actually survived and joined Caerleon, but she has already spent enough time in Norgard to be invested with Vaynard's goals (and learning that Vaynard wasn't as bad as people made him out to be) and couldn't easily turn back.
  • Cool Big Sis: Tends to nag at Lance like a big sister while encouraging him and offering him useful advice.
  • Cute Witch: An upstart female mage that has a cute-looking youthful eye and smile.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Beating New Almekia means that she will join you to continue on her dream on becoming the best mage of Forsena. Unless you're playing as Esgares in Grand Edition.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Not in the Story Mode, but in Multiplayer latter scenarios, despite Esgares being the one to defeat New Almekia and Lance went to Caerleon, Carlota went to Norgard instead, as noted with the Ambiguous Situation on why she ended up there instead.
  • Magikarp Power: At level 8, she has a decent enough Rune Power and comes equipped with a Ring of Sorcery which boosts her MP and allows her to cast multiple Geno Frosts in one battle. This makes Carlota the most ideal Rune Knight to eventually sling around the Meteor Doom spell if she promotes into a Witch. And she also joins any country that beats New Almekia (except Esgares).
  • Punch-Clock Hero: As it turns out, Carlota prioritizes her dream to be the best spellcaster in Forsena, though she grew to like Lance like a big sister to stick with New Almekia as long as he survives, otherwise she'll join whoever defeats New Almekia to continue her dream (though at least in Grand Edition, she refuses to join Esgares). If New Almekia is victorious, she ends up becoming a magic instructor there.
  • To Be a Master: Wants to be the best magician in Forsena.
  • We Used to Be Friends: She could encounter a fellow 'Three Beauties', Adilicia, in battle on opposing sides if New Almekia is defeated (and in Multiplayer scenarios, it can happen because she's with Norgard now). She's not too happy about it, but she still has to fight for her dreams, so she asks that Adilicia do not hold back.

    Aphelia

Aphelia (Voiced by Yuri Amano)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4961971950_969fceddf7_o.jpg
Class: Cleric

A nun from Padstow. She seems meek and unassuming, but Adilicia thinks that she's merely a wolf in sheep's clothing. Also one of the 'Three Beauties of Almekia'.

    Gilsus

Gilsus (Voiced by Yasunori Matsumoto)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715907954_a38a664b3c.jpg
Class: Sorcerer

Womanizing wizard from Padstow who hits on pretty much every girls he comes across, but is pretty strict with men. Ends up becoming a magic instructor along with Carlota in the GE New Almekia ending.

  • Chivalrous Pervert: Although the only woman we see him hit on is Brangien. In GE, though, he opens each battles with stating that he's got ladies waiting for him.

    Liguel

Liguel (Voiced by Yuriko Fuchizaki)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715265853_e0aa95bd42_o.jpg
Class: Scout

The youngest of the Rand siblings who swore to uphold their family name by serving different countries. However, Liguel deeply just wanted to reunite with her family.

  • The Baby of the Bunch: The youngest of the Rand Siblings and very much beloved by her two brothers, to the point that both Miguel and Castor defect to her side without a fuss if all three are at the battlefield and are each fighting for the opposite sides.
  • Punch-Clock Hero: She prioritizes the reunion with her family instead of sticking with New Almekia. While she can bring Castor of Esgares to her side, she can ALSO pull a Face–Heel Turn if she meets Miguel of Iscalio alone without Castor (on the other hand, if both Castor and Miguel met Liguel, they're the ones defecting to her side). Additionally, she's not very picky; unlike Carlota and Loufal, she'd still join Esgares in Grand Edition for the chance to be with her brother. Likewise, in Multiplayer Scenario 2, she also survived Esgares' onslaught, but rather than sticking with Lance, she went to Iscalio instead.
  • Token Good Teammate: In a way. She's the most pacifistic of the Rand siblings and served the most morally good kingdom in Forsena (where Castor served The Empire, and Miguel served the chaotic kingdom that is Iscalio).

    Loufal

Loufal (Voiced by Mitsuru Ogata)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715911026_b44b1be044.jpg
Class: Fighter

He has served in the palace for a long time, but his arrogance sees him passed up for promotion often. Son of the greatest Cavalier ever seen in Padstow, which tends to overshadow his accomplishments.

  • Defeat Means Friendship: Beating New Almekia means that he'll join you as he now entrusts the protection of the people of Padstow to you. Unless you're Esgares in Grand Edition.
  • Killed Off for Real: In the Multiplayer Mode, starting from Scenario 2, Loufal is nowhere to be seen in any other country (unlike Carlota who somehow managed to escape to Norgard) and with the fact that Esgares Empire cannot recruit any knights from defeated countries (except Iscalio), it implies that Loufal was slain in defense of New Almekia and Padstow.
  • Punch-Clock Hero: Alongside with Carlotta, he joins with anyone who defeats New Almekia, believing them to be worthy of protecting the people of Padstow. He'll only make an exception on joining Esgares in Grand Edition.
  • Took a Level in Badass: He starts out at Level 6 with the worst rune growth in the game, but once he reaches Level 10 and is changed to a Cavalier, he can be sent on a quest to go home and speak with his mother, which nets him his father's sword (an equipable item) and raises his rune growth.

    Batercus

Batercus (Voiced by Masashi Sugawara)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715909296_cb96833d50.jpg
Class: Grappler

Born and raised in Padstow, he is known as the 'Ogre Of Padstow' for his fierce way of fighting. Although he intimidates those who do not know him, he has a gentle heart.

  • Gentle Giant: His nickname is Ogre of Padstow, he started out in the muscular Grappler class, he has an imposing stature, and he's a pretty nice fellow for those who know him.
  • Killed Off for Real: He usually joins any other countries that did not defeat New Almekia, but in Multiplayer Scenario 2, he did not, with New Almekia beaten by Esgares that couldn't recruit anyone from countries it defeated, it implied that Batercus was killed in action.

    Brusom

Brusom (Voiced by Junichi Sugawara)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715267275_3ff2a35700.jpg
Class: Samurai

The mentor of Melegeant, he was feared during his prime and is known as 'Brusom The Gale'.

  • Dented Iron: While he's a capable rune knight and valuable mentor to Meleagant, he is noted to be past his prime and it shows in his low rune power.

    Glauze

Glauze (Voiced by Takeshi Maeda)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715266215_3b79e3ff2a.jpg
Class: Cavalier

Glauze is from a family who used to work for Almekia, but his father was falsely accused of a crime and was banished from the country. They were taken in by King Coel and still have hostility for Almekia, which leads Glauze to be unsure about Prince Lance.

  • Sour Supporter: To Prince Lance due to the above backstory and he only serves at Coel's word. He later loses it when he is won over by him and sees that he's not as bad as he thinks.

    Alsace

Alsace (Voiced by Yumiko Kobayashi)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715265957_c67e1fd4f3.jpg
Class: Fighter

Prince Lance's number one fan, his stated goal is to become King someday, and his pure heart and determination endear him to most everyone in the palace because it reminds them of their own childhood.

  • Elite Tweak: He starts as a Level 1 Fighter, enabling players to manipulate his stats through the Class Change system.
  • Fanboy: Towards Prince Lance.
  • Magikarp Power: Aside of his Elite Tweak potential, his low level hides his high rune power growth that rivals Prince Lance.
