See his sheet on the Army of the Dead page.

    Gwendoline

Gwendoline Starr

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aot_gwendoline.png

Portrayed by: Nathalie Emmanuel

Appearances: Army of Thieves

A wanted jewelry thief who recruits and leads a team to pull off heists at the time of the Las Vegas zombie outbreak.

  • Action Girl: She's very combat-capable as demonstrated when she has to get rid of the two guards of Walküre and the two drivers of the truck carrying Siegfried. She's quite fond of Pistol-Whipping, while we're at it.
  • Cultural Rebel: She chose to become a thief out of rebellion against her rich parents and her "asshole" of a father in particular.
  • Glory Seeker: She recruited Sebastian in order to maximize the chances to open the nigh-impossible to crack safes of the legendary Hans Wagner, which would be a glorious feat to accomplish in the eyes of the criminal underworld.
  • Love Interest: She's had a pretty long romance with Alexis "Brad Cage", but it starts to break down shortly after Sebastian enters the picture, and she becomes Sebastian's love interest eventually though not for long since she gets arrested.
  • The One That Got Away: Rather it's Sebastian who had to go away. Gwendoline gets arrested by Delacroix at the end of Army of Thieves, and Sebastian, renamed "Ludwig Dieter" after his escape to the USA, still misses her very much in Army of the Dead, judging by the way he named his locksmith workshop "Gwendoline".
  • Phantom Thief: She has an Interpol "Red Notice" since she's 17 and she has evaded police forces all this time.
  • Sticky Fingers: She's an expert pickpocket.

    Korina

Korina Dominguez

Portrayed by: Ruby O. Fee

Appearances: Army of Thieves

The hacker of Gwendoline's team.

  • Bubblegum Popping: She pops gum a few times while introducing herself or working for the heists.
  • Child Prodigy: As a child, she was apparently skilled enough to hack into Walt Disney Pictures servers to get Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest before its theatrical release.
  • The Cracker: She's an ace hacker who can get into the banks' security systems and Interpol's own encrypted networks alike.
  • Hopeless Suitor: During their home party after the second heist, she asks Sebastian if he wants to make out with her. Then she quickly sees his attention is all focused on Gwendoline and doesn't insist.
  • Justified Criminal: She has a little brother and apparently participates in the bank robberies to provide for him after likely getting a Promotion to Parent.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: She disguises herself on two occasions (as a bank customer for the Rheingold heist and with a party dress for the Siegfried heist), and her attractiveness goes through the roof both times.
  • Undying Loyalty: Her loyalty firmly goes to Gwendoline even as the team breaks apart.

    Brad Cage

Brad Cage, real name Alexis Broschini

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aot_brad.jpg

Portrayed by: Stuart Martin (adult), David DvorÅ¡čík (child)

Appearances: Army of Thieves

The muscle of Gwendoline's team.

  • The Big Guy: The most action and guns-oriented member of the team and the tallest, to the point Gwendoline calls him "the Action Hero".
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: He rapidly notices Sebastian/Dieter's interest in his girlfriend Gwendoline, and doesn't like it one bit, to the point of deliberately leaving Sebastian behind in the middle of the chase with the police in Prague after pulling off the second heist.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: Of the Action Genre Hero Guy, which is a character he has based his entire life on due to being a fan of characters played by Nicolas Cage and Brad Pitt. In a more traditional film he would be a Dom Toretto Expy, but here he is a toxic Crazy Jealous Guy who's constant attempts at one liners come across as cringy and he's ultimately nothing more than a criminal.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He's a bank robber, but he'll make sure not to kill anyone in the action, by using tranquillizer darts.
  • Fanboy: Of Hollywood action stars, particularly Nicolas Cage from whom he took his last name. Flashbacks show that seeing Cage doing pull-ups in Con Air inspired Brad to take up weightlifting and try to become an "action hero" as well.
  • Hunk: A good looking Hugh Jackman Wolverine-esque blend of muscles, beard and brown hair.
  • Ironic Nickname: Gwendoline calls him the "Action Hero", but truth is, he's a criminal who robs banks just like the rest of the team.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: When the Walküre heist starts going south, he dons a Nixon Mask and enters the banks to cause chaos for distraction so Gwendoline and Sebastian can have time to escape unnoticed. He uses nonlethal tranquillizer darts doing so however.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: He took his "Cage" alias from Nicolas Cage, and the "Brad" from Brad Pitt.
  • No Honor Among Thieves: He is perfectly willing to abandon a team member (Sebastian) to the police rather than share the loot. Or wants to get rid of Sebastian to break the Love Triangle.
  • Real Men Get Shot: He gets shot in the left shoulder during the Walküre heist, though he still needs painkillers afterwards.

    Rolph

Rolph

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aot_rolph.jpg

Portrayed by: Guz Khan

Appearances: Army of Thieves

The getaway driver of Gwendoline's team.

  • Affably Evil: Rolph sides with Brad after his betrayal of Sebastien, but also admits he was starting to like Sebastien. When Brad rants about the others' betrayal, Rolph points out that they betrayed them first. He's also concerned with the idea that Brad wants to kill Sebastien and Gwendoline, and unsuccessfully tries to switch sides after he and Brad are defeated.
  • Asian Drivers: He is South Asian but rather than being a Taxi Driver or a Delivery Driver as the stereotype would suggest. He is a badass getaway driver for heists and only Drives Like Crazy when going on joy rides in fancy cars for his own amusement when he should be parking.
  • Badass Driver: He surely has driving skills.
  • Drives Like Crazy: He once worked as a parking valet at a hotel, and "borrowed" a hotel customer's sports car for a wild ride, then went back to the hotel as if nothing happened.
  • Getaway Driver: He's in charge of driving the team's van away once the heists are pulled off.
  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick: Rolph isn't too smart, but once he and Brad end up working alone, he's more focused and professional than his vindictive partner. He's also the one to suggest following Gwendoline through her GPS tracker.
  • No Full Name Given: He's just known as "Rolph", his full name is never given. Though Sebastian's disbelief over a British Asian man having a white name could imply it's an alias.
  • No Honor Among Thieves: He doesn't object to Brad Cage throwing Sebastian out of the team in Prague, even as they're chased by the police, and stays with him even after Gwendoline and Korina leave.

Interpol

    Delacroix

Agent Vincent Delacroix

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2_495.jpg

Portrayed by: Jonathan Cohen

Appearances: Army of Thieves

An Interpol agent who hunts down Gwendoline Starr's heist crew throughout Europe.

  • Butt-Monkey: His subordinates don't even read his briefings, he got Shot in the Ass during a past operation, his first sting operation fails because the vault he wants to guard is at a different bank due to a recent unannounced switch, and he gets an I Told You So comment from Beatrix after the second sting fails due to his reluctance to confide in the safe's owner.
  • French Jerk: He speaks French fluently (the actor is French) and he tends to frequently lose his composure and shout.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: He veers dangerously on "bad cop", especially with his eye poke on Korina upon arresting her, compared to how Beatrix treats her.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Delacroix is prone to yelling at people after setbacks.
  • It's All About Me: He boldly predicts about how he'll be the one to catch Gwendoline's crew, as his team is visibly annoyed at being left out of that self-congratulatory speech.
  • It's Personal: He's really made it personal to catch Gwendoline and her gang since Brad shot him.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Delacroix is an irritable man who doesn't shy away from Police Brutality, but he's right to point out that people are still committing crimes during the zombie outbreak and are relying on European authorities caring more about zombies on another continent than doing their jobs. He also has a right to be annoyed at his team for not reading his briefing notes.
  • Large Ham: He has a tense and dramatic persona and a loud voice.
  • Nerves of Steel: Delacroix is brave and determined during his Mexican Standoff with Gwendoline and points out that if she shoots him, it will just summon other cops and ruin their escape.
  • Pet the Dog: Delacroix mostly averts the "sympathetic" part of the Sympathetic Inspector Antagonist character archetype, but he shows some sympathy for Sebastien upon realizing he's an Ascended Fanboy of the safe maker Wagner and not a professional criminal. In the climax, he lets Sebastien escape. While this is partially due to his Mexican Standoff with Gwendoline, he doesn't try to cordon off the area to trap Sebastien once Gwendoline surrenders, and pretends he never saw him.
  • Police Brutality: Upon catching Korina, he quite violently pokes her left eye with his thumb.
  • Properly Paranoid: Delacroix immediately guesses that the thieves are trying to steal the other safes Wagner built after the first robbery.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The bad-tempered and headstrong Red Oni to Beatrix's calm, level-headed and rational Blue Oni.
  • Stock Foreign Name: "Delacroix" is quite the stereotypical name for French (or francophone Swiss) characters in non-French fiction.
  • Screw the Money, I Have Rules!: He refuses to take millions of dollars in stolen money to let Gwendoline go, although the fact that It's Personal contributes to this.
  • Sympathetic Inspector Antagonist: The "sympathetic" part is dramatically mitigated due to how unsympathetic he actually is, but otherwise he fits the part as the unsuccessful law enforcer who fails to catch the bank robbers several times.

    Beatrix

Agent Beatrix

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beatrix_6.jpg

Portrayed by: Noémie Nakai

Appearances: Army of Thieves

The main colleague of Agent Delacroix.

  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: She's pretty firmly on the "good cop" side. Best illustrated with how she treats Korina after she's caught, trying to stop Delacroix's eye poke on her and talking to her like a more reasonable interrogator would, including with a promise to have someone taking care of Korina's little brother.
  • No Full Name Given: Her full name isn't given in the film.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The calm, level-headed and rational Blue Oni to contrast Delacroix's bad-tempered and headstrong Red Oni.
  • Sympathetic Inspector Antagonist: She fits the "sympathetic" part more than Delacroix does. It shows especially with how she treats Korina after arresting her compared to Delacroix and intervenes to stop the latter's eye poke on Korina. She also promises Korina that her little brother will be looked after.

Others

    Hans Wagner

Hans Wagner

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beatrix_2.jpg

Portrayed by: Christian Steyer

Appearances: Army of Thieves

A famed German locksmith and safe builder who lived in Munich. Sebastian/Dieter has had a longtime interest in his life and inventions.

  • Driven to Suicide: At one point, he lost his wife and child and, most likely out of grief, locked himself in one of his own safes, clutching the medallion with photos of his deceased wife and child.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He invented safes with complex clockwork mechanisms.
  • Posthumous Character: He lived several decades before Sebastian/Dieter went after his safes (an Ambiguous Time Period during the first half of The 20th Century) and he is long presumed dead.
  • Shout-Out: His surname is "Wagner", and he created (at least) four safes themed after Richard Wagner's opera cycle The Ring of the Nibelung: Rheingold, Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He lived and died several decades before the events of the film and Army of the Dead, but his first three safes drive the plot of the film and his final safe is the one Sebastian/Dieter is trying to crack in Army of the Dead. It also enables Vanderohe to survive the destruction of Las Vegas after Dieter locks him inside, unknowingly having been bitten by a zombie prior to this meaning that without his genius invention the zombie outbreak could have been ended.
