Character page for the members of the Summer Troupe of A3!.

The Summer Troupe (夏組; natsugumi) is one of the MANKAI Company's four theater units, specializing in lively slapstick comedy.

The current generation is called the Reborn Summer Troupe (新生夏組 shinsei natsugumi), led by popular TV actor Tenma Sumeragi. Their first play performed was Water Me!. Their representative color is yellow.

Note: Characters on this page all have their names listed in Western order— given names followed by surnames.

  • The Baby of the Bunch: As their starting members consist of two middle-schoolers and no members over the age of 20, Summer Troupe has the overall youngest average age out of all the Mankai Company's sub-groups.
  • Image Song: "Ore-sama Natsu☆Summer" in Part 1 and "Natsutte☆Paripari" in Part 2.
  • Only Sane Man: Yuki and Tenma alternate playing this role for the rest of Summer Troupe, although they aren't immune to their own moments of eccentricity.
  • Significant Birth Date: They all have birthdays during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer (June-August).
  • Super Team: Their A6 incarnations are superheroes with various superpowers.
  • Throw It In!: In-universe example; once they gain a more comfortable footing as actors, all of them get around to incorporating more ad-libs into their performances, sometimes going off-script for a majority of their performances.

A famous child film actor born to equally famous parents who joins the Mankai Company after seeing the Spring Troupe's debut performance. Tenma's talent and experience as an actor lead him to be appointed as the leader of the Summer Troupe. Abrasive and prideful, Tenma has difficulty making friends which puts him at odds with the sharp-tongued Yuki.

"One of these days, I'm gonna win Best Lead Actor in every country's movie awards."
Age: 16 (Part 1), 17 (Part 2), 18 (Part 3)
Height: 178cm
Birthday: June 21
Blood Type: O
Occupation: Ouka High School student (Part 1 & 2), Yosei University student (Part 3)
Hobbies: Bonsai pruning, weightlifting
Image color: Orange
Motif flower: Sunflowers

  • Book Dumb: Outside work skits and several backstage stories reveal that Tenma isn't exactly book smart since he usually crams his studies and homework the day before.
  • Birds of a Feather: He and Banri took to each other surprisingly well, given their similar backgrounds. Also, with Tsumugi, as they bond over gardening (in particular, bonsai).
  • Face Your Fears: He joins Mankai Company in hopes of overcoming his fear of standing on stage due to a traumatic stage play as a child in school. By the end of act 2, he succeeded.
  • Fiery Redhead: Arrogant and competitive to a fault, with bright orange hair to match.
  • Former Child Star: He's been acting since he was a child.
  • Friendless Background: He's not the easiest person to get along with, strictly speaking, so he didn't have many opportunities to make friends because of his abrasive personality.
  • Hidden Depths: Tastes in food aside, characters liken Tenma to grandpa because of his aesthetic sense. Despite being raised wealthy, after visiting Hatsue with Masumi, he finds that he likes traditional Japanese style homes with tatami mats. His hobby is attending to bonsai trees which is a pastime that requires dedication, patience, planning, and attention to detail.
  • Image Song: "Natsu no Dilemma", and "Sunflowers".
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Tenma does not want to ruin his constructed cool guy image as an actor, but he adores cats. According to the backstage story, "Role Study: Mikke", his affection extends to fictional cats. When Itaru teases and lies to Tenma, he tears up thinking that he accidentally killed his pet cat in an app game.
  • Lovable Coward: He is easily terrified of something, especially ghosts even if they don't exist and fireworks, and Azuma scares him, but he cares about Summer Troupe in his own way.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He tries to get in shape for Captain Sky's Pirates because Yuki wants to make a costume that bares his torso. With Tasuku's and Izumi's help, he manages to pull it off.
  • No Sense of Direction: Incredibly, he even manages to go the wrong way while inside the dorms.
  • Shock and Awe: His A6 incarnation wields electrical power.
  • Significant Birth Date: June 21 is the beginning of Cancer, the beginning of Summer, as well as the longest day traditionally and the day when Litha is celebrated.
  • Stern Teacher: He criticizes his fellow troupe members a lot, but only because he wants them to improve.
  • Tsundere: Seems like an arrogant guy at first (and he is), but Tenma does care about his fellow troupe mates a lot. As the only experienced actor in Summer Troupe, he often harshly criticizes his troupe mates, but he learns to start complimenting them when they do something right, and takes time to help them improve as well. Lampshaded in one of Tenma's coin-earning chats with Muku:
Tenma: The end was a total mess. ...You weren't bad, though.
    Muku: (A classic tsundere!)
    • In his cross-backstage with Juza, Juza saves Tenma from getting harassed by fans. Tenma's response to this is that he didn't ask for Juza's help (complete with stuttering!), but he ends up helping Juza with his lines later that night, as he doesn't like owing people anything. When Juza thanks him and asks if Tenma will help him with his lines again, Tenma's response is classic tsundere:
Tenma: S-Sure. Guess I can do it if I'm bored or something...
  • Trademark Hated Food: He really dislikes carrots except for carrot cake. He also dislikes vegetables which lead many characters to tease him for having a childish palate.
  • You Remind Me of My Brother: Part of the reason why Misumi gets along well with Tenma is that he reminds Misumi of Madoka. Both are regarded as prodigies and have a standoffish aura that masks their caring personalities. The Summer Troupe after meeting Madoka in The Sky Pirates event agreed that the two are similar in spirit.

The creator of the Spring Troupe's play costumes in Romeo & Julius, Yuki is later recruited into Summer Troupe and as the permanent costume specialist for the Mankai Theatre. Yuki enjoys cute things, and dresses himself in the latest, adorable fashion trends. Despite being one of the youngest members of the troupe, Yuki finds no difficulty in insulting his seniors with a variety of snapbacks. He is also known for his bestowal of unique nicknames.

"You're so full of hot air, it's a wonder you don't float away, you hack!"
Age: 14 (Part 1), 15 (Part 2), 16 (Part 3)
Height: 165cm
Birthday: July 8
Blood Type: O
Occupation: St. Flora Middle School student (Part 1), St. Flora High School student (Part 2 & 3)
Hobbies: Collecting cute things
Image color: Pastel pink
Motif flower: Lily

  • Cuteness Proximity: He has a hobby of collecting cute things, and his crossdressing is a result of that.
  • Crosscast Role: Quite a lot. To note, he plays as Scheherezade in "Water Me!", Francois in "Sky Pirates", Washimiya in "First Crush Baseball", and Rose in The Floral Prince.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Is completely unafraid to insult or criticize anyone, up to and including the thirty-year-old member of the yakuza who was previously threatening to demolish the theatre.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Due to his habit of crossdressing. Unlike most examples, he's proud of it.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Appears as the costume designer before he joined the company.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: Actually met Taichi as a kid, though Yuki doesn't remember it. Taichi seems to regard a young Yuki as a different person as well. At least, until Fire Up! Mantou Fist where Taichi finally figures out that his first love was indeed Yuki. However, Yuki does not recall anything about Taichi at all.
  • Flower Motifs: Lily. Interestingly, it is a flower that has history of associations with both feminity (mainly due to the Virgin Mary being depicted with a white lily) and masculinity.
  • Gender Bender: His character in The Floral Prince, Rose, turns out to be the princess at the end of that play. Originally, the curse put upon by a petty witch had Rose become male, only turning back into a girl once she and Prince Florence found and used a flower that breaks curses.
  • Gender-Blender Name: A bully remarks that if Yuki were a girl, the name wouldn't even need to change.
  • Image Song: "MINORITY", and "Tailor! Tailor!"
  • The Nicknamer: Like Kazunari, Yuki likes to give his troupe-mates nicknames, though they tend to be meaner and more descriptive than Kazunari's Affectionate Nicknames. His backstage story reveals that they're derived from the first thing Yuki thinks of when he looks at a person. The nicknames he's given so far are:
    • Spring Troupe: Energy Concentrate (Sakuya), Psycho Stalker (Masumi), Villager C (Tsuzuru), Elite Swindler (Itaru), Foreign Swindler (Citron)
    • Summer Troupe: Hack (Tenma), Trianglian (Misumi), Wonder Boy (Muku), Friendly McExtrovert (Kazunari)
    • Autumn Troupe: Neo Gangster (Banri), Standard Gangster (Juza), Dog/Dumb Dog (Taichi), Ma (Omi), Money-grubbing Yakuza (Sakyo)
    • Winter Troupe: Muscle-head (Tasuku), Sleepyhead (Hisoka), Azu-nee (Azuma), Shameless Poet (Homare)
    • The Currian (Izumi), Sack-o-Dumb (Sakoda)
  • Poisonous Person: His A6 incarnation is a mix of Green Thumb and this, fighting in the ring with poison ivy.
  • Proud Beauty: If Izumi or anyone else comments that he looks good, he'll always be one hundred percent confident in his looks and tell them as much.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: He's good at sewing and likes wearing girly clothes.
  • Stepford Snarker: His sharp-tongued personality is largely a defense mechanism against people who used to make fun of him for his interests.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: He finds girls' clothes cute, and gives that as his reason for his feminine appearance.

    Muku Sakisaka

Voiced by: Yoshitaka Yamaya
Portrayed by: Jun Noguchi (2018-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/muku_full.png
Click here  to see him in the stage play and movies

A kind-hearted and shy boy that was inspired by the Spring Troupe's performance. Muku auditions for the Summer Troupe to alleviate his shyness, and become closer to his ideal image of a prince. He enjoys shoujo manga, and due to his overactive imagination, Muku has a habit of catastrophizing at the slightest perceived negativity as well as daydreaming about romantic plots ripped from his favorite manga genre. He is cousins with Juza and Kumon, as well as schoolmates with Yuki.

"I wish I could be like a prince right out of a shoujo manga..."
Age: 14 (Part 1), 15 (Part 2), 16 (Part 3)
Height: 167cm (Part 1), 169cm (Part 2), 170cm (Part 3)
Birthday: August 30
Blood Type: A
Occupation: St. Flora Middle School student (Part 1), St. Flora High School student (Part 2 & 3)
Hobbies: Reading shoujo manga
Image color: Cyan
Motif flower: Chinese bellflower

  • Birds of a Feather: He gets along well with his cousin Kumon, and both of them have the same insecurities.
  • Career-Ending Injury: Used to be the star of the track team until he twisted his ankle. It was actually that injury that turned him to shoujo manga.
  • Chick Magnet: One of his backstage stories reveals that he is actually quite popular with the girls in school.
  • Cute Bookworm: Aside from being a shoujo manga enthusiast, he was also part of the library committee for 3 years, according to his "Earn Cash" dialogue with Tsuzuru.
  • Image Song: "Itsu ka Ouji-sama ni..." and "Kimi Dake no Prince".
  • Master of Threads: His A6 incarnation can trap and bind his opponent with threads.
  • Motor Mouth: Not normally, but he tends to go into muttering rambles when his imagination gets the better of him.
  • Oblivious to Love: Ironically, Muku is unable to sense when someone has romantic feelings for him. Even when the Summer Troupe implied that an underclassman likely had a crush on him, Muku is unable to understand. [MANKAI Playback]
  • Princely Young Man: Specifically, he says that he wants to be this trope come to life. Muku was able to literally play the part in the Summer Troupe's sixth play, The Floral Prince.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Not for anyone who's passed away, but Citron does look to him as a substitute of sorts to his closest brother, Prince Tangerine, while he's hiding in Japan.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Has pastel-pink hair, and is easily the most docile and timid of the Summer Troupe.
  • Self-Deprecation: He likes to deprecate himself a lot, and the analogies he uses to do are... creatively crushing.
  • Shrinking Violet: Overall, he is a kind boy but gets flustered easily.
  • Stronger Than They Look: Even though he looks soft and petite, Muku was a former track team member, and still has a commendable amount of stamina and athletic prowess.
  • Sweet Tooth: Loves sweets just like his cousin Juza.
  • Thinks Like a Romance Novel: His overall goal is to become the type of boy that'd lead in a Shōjo Demographic work, so he reads the stuff like it's his gospel.

    Misumi Ikaruga

Voiced by: Daisuke Hirose
Portrayed by: Reo Honda (2018-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/misumi_full.png
Click here  to see him in the stage play and movies

Found inhabiting Room 203 in the dorms, Misumi is an oddball that marches to the beat of his own drum. He is a cheerful collector of triangular objects, and actively searches for triangles in anything and anyone he sees. In spite of his flakiness, he is talented actor and enjoys acting as fun past-time in between his search for triangles.

"Onigiri are a wonder! Tri-tri-triangle~!"
Age: 19 (Part 1), 20 (Part 2), 21 (Part 3)
Height: 175cm
Birthday: June 6
Blood Type: AB
Occupation: Part-timer
Hobbies: Collecting triangles
Image color: Yellow
Motif flower: Dahlia

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Ditzy and slow-witted, but he has a talent with acting. He is also one of the quickest and nimble members of the troupe.
  • Cute Little Fangs: It's in the shape of a triangle!
  • Exotic Eye Designs: His pupils are triangle shaped.
  • Flight: His A6 incarnation can fly and is very fast, easily dodging Sakyo's barrage of arrows.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Somehow, he can perfectly understand and talk to animals.
  • Generation Xerox: His grandfather used to be a member of Mankai company and the first generation's script writer.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite his ditzy nature, he's an amazing actor. At the time of Summer Troupe's first rehearsal, he's around the same level as Tenma, who's been acting for ten years. Misumi's skill in acting stems from his grandfather, who raised him and taught him how to act.
  • Image Song: "Ichi Ni Sankaku" and "Sankaku Atsume".
  • Le Parkour: Surprisingly adept at using parkour to get around as fast as possible, which is established when Izumi and co. first discover him in the dorms. After their initial surprise, the cast is resigned to the fact that this means the walls often get dirty and require consistent upkeep to counter Misumi's activity.
  • Mellow Fellow: Is rarely seen angry. He does get angry a few times here and there in the main story and in events, but never to the point of full blown rage.
  • Punny Name: Misumi's name in Kanji can be read as "Sankaku", the Japanese word for triangle. This in contrast to Madoka, which can be read as 'circle' or 'round'.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: In Winter Troupe's story, he's the only person other than Tasuku and Tsumugi who retains their memories of the time loops caused by the Torment Doll.
  • Rule of Three: Yes, his love for triangles can extend to this, because he can draw a triangle in his mind. The Sky Pirates event detailed that his grandfather told him that life's greatest treasures would come in a set of three. For Misumi, his special triangle is drawn with: his friends, acting, and triangles in general.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: He can understand and speak to animals.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Onigiri. Three guesses as to why.
  • Successful Sibling Syndrome: Misumi's parents had overtly favored Madoka and seemed to pass on the responsibility of raising him with love to Hakkaku. Misumi while saddened by the favoritism, holds no resentment towards Madoka, and the two brothers are affectionate with one another.
  • Tragic Keepsake: An innocuous-looking protractor that he lets Izumi hold for comfort when they watch the original Summer Troupe's old video. It belonged to his grandfather, who would use it during his scriptwriting.
  • The Unfavorite: The Sky Pirates event revealed that he is this to the family, especially his father, who preferred Madoka over Misumi. But Madoka cares about him.

    Kazunari Miyoshi

Voiced by: Ren Ozawa (former), Tomoru Akazawa (current)
Portrayed by: Tomoru Akazawa (2018-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kazunari_full.png
Click here  to see him in the stage play and movies

A former senior of Tsuzuru during high school, he was recruited to help design the Mankai Company's website. Kazunari is a second-year traditional Japanese painting major and a talented graphic designer. Extroverted and affable, Kazunari has a large social network at his dispense, and is willing to welcome anyone and everyone to his social circle.

"Dang, this troupe's sick as hell! Sign me up!"
Age: 19 (Part 1), 20 (Part 2), 21 (Part 3)
Height: 176cm
Birthday: August 1
Blood Type: AB
Occupation: Veludo Arts University Student
Hobbies: Updating social media, scuba diving
Image color: Fluorescent green
Motif flower: Hibiscus

  • Art Attacker: His A6 incarnation wields a brush, and whatever he paints will come to life.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Episode 6 explored Kazunari's insecurity about having a defined purpose in life. After a pep talk with Izumi, he realized that it was not that he lacked ambition, but had many goals in life that inspired him. He reached the conclusion that he should try to achieve as many of his goals as he can. He later names his goal to a UMC: an Ultra Multi-Creator who will be an actor, a designer, and a traditional Japanese painter.
  • Dissension Remorse: Tsuzuru and Kazunari had a verbal dispute before the event 'Operation: Campfire Bonds,' but both feel guilty and later apologize to each other. They even forgot what they were fighting about until the epilogue. Kazunari found a picture of high school Tsuzuru and wanted to show it everyone, but Tsuzuru found it too embarrassing and yelled at Kazunari who also got heated. Although, Kazunari later ended up showing everyone anyway which led to Tsuzuru comically giving up.
  • Dye Hard: His Mankai Re-Birthday card reveals that his original hair color is black which got dyed to blonde.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Appears early to help design the poster for the Spring Troupe's debut play and also advertise the play.
  • Extreme Doormat: Kazunari dislikes his former, introverted self and wanted to become more popular. Although he does have a large social network, he does not have any close friends prior to joining the Summer Troupe. Part of the reason is that Kazunari is too kind, and will not impose his opinions on others for fear of losing approval. Joining the theater, and becoming an active participant whose opinion is valued and needed changes his behavior. It is still rare for Kazunari to lose his happy disposition, though.
  • Goroawase Number: His name in kanji contains the numbers, one (Kazu) and three (Mi) respectively. (in the same vein as that Kazumi's name can be read).
  • Image Song: "Summer Time Love" and "Be Greedy Diver".
  • Keet: Has so much energy and cheer whenever he talks that when paired with Taichi, Yuki nicknames them as the "Puppy Pair". His middle school self, however, used to be a very studious person with no interest in socializing.
  • Motor Mouth: Talks a lot.
  • Nice Guy: His energy can be a lot to take at times, but Kazu's a genuinely genial person who rarely takes things personally and always seeks to help out his friends.
  • The Nicknamer: Nicknames people he meet a lot. The exceptions to this being Izumi, whom he calls Director. The nicknames he's given so far are:
    • Spring Troupe: Sakusaku (Sakuya), Massun (Masumi), Tsuzurun (Tsuzuru), Itarun (Itaru), Ronron (Citron), Chika-Chon (Chikage)
    • Summer Troupe: Tenten (Tenma), Yukki (Yuki), Sumi (Misumi), Mukkun (Muku), Kumopi (Kumon)
    • Autumn Troupe: Setzer (Banri), Hyodle (Juza), Taicchan (Taichi), Omimi (Omi), Froochie (Sakyo), Azamin (Azami)
    • Winter Troupe: Tsumutsumu (Tsumugi), Tax (Tasuku), Hisohiso (Hisoka), Azu (Azuma), Aririn (Homare), Guyguy (Guy)
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: A rare male, pushing-into-his-20's example: he's an avid Instablam user with a decently-sized following of his own.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: In the "SHI★NO★BI Misadventuring" event, his father notes that after a visit to an art museum, Kazunari stopped being a studious person and grow more cheerful, becoming the social butterfly he is known to be in the present.
  • Verbal Tic: Has a habit to pepper his speeches with Japanese internet slang. In the English version, it gets translated to millennial web jargon.

    Kumon Hyodo

Voiced by: Tasuku Hatanaka
Portrayed by: Masatoshi Shin (2022-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kumon_fullbody_9.png
Click here  to see him in the stage play and movies

Juza's younger brother, and Muku's older cousin. He adores his older brother, and enters the Mankai Company to be closer to his idol. Originally, Kumon wanted to be in the Autumn Troupe with his brother, but enters the Summer Troupe. Kumon is an upbeat, sporty type but it seems that his relationship with baseball is more complicated than it seems...

"I love you, Juza! Can you pat my head some more?"
Age: 16 (Part 2), 17 (Part 3)
Height: 173cm
Birthday: July 20
Blood Type: A
Occupation: Tsukushi High School student
Hobbies: Fitness, collecting sportswear
Image color: Pastel purple
Motif flower: Morning glory

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In the game, he’s first mentioned in the “Blazing Beachside Passion!” event, and makes his first appearance during Autumn Troupe’s third play. In the anime, he shows up during closing night of Autumn Troupe’s debut show, taking a seat next to Azuma.
  • Affectionate Nickname: His cousin Muku calls him "Kyuchan."
  • Big Brother Worship: Respects and admires Juza so much that some characters note that Kumon has a Brother complex when it comes to Juza. Fallen Blood revealed that he is the leader and creator of the official Juza fanclub. The other members are Muku, Taichi, Azami, and Sakoda. Azami was forced to join and Sakoda joined as a trade-off for Kumon joining the Sakyo fan club.
  • Birds of a Feather: Despite being outwardly opposites, he and Muku have similar anxieties and are very close cousins. The two are both athletic, kind people who have a penchant of letting their imaginations run wild.
  • Broken Ace: While he has great athleticism, he gets easily pressured, which is not a good mix with the fact that he will get sick when that happens, which affects his self esteem a lot.
  • Chuunibyou: A closet one at least. When Muku cheerfully talks about his love for the dragon key chain sword in Episode 6, he got embarrassed really fast. That being said, he feels a kinship with Itaru and the two similarly think that Hisoka is fascinating because of his mysterious past.
  • Face Your Fears: In Episode 6, one of the plot points is for Kumon to face his fear in performing and not care about feeling too pressured by the rest of the Summer Troupe.
  • Image Song: "Seiten no Sinker" and "Yuukei no Catchball."
  • Keet: Easily energetic.
  • Lovable Jock: He's athletic and health-oriented, and he's one of the most friendly guys around.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: His friendship with Azami often zigzags around this trope. Normally, Azami is quiet and prefers to keep to himself, whereas Kumon is loud and incredibly sociable. However, Azami's also much more likely to act out in anger, while Kumon gets physically ill from stressful confrontations.
  • Stepford Smiler: For all his cheer, he gets easily pressured and has self esteem issues because of it. This is a bad thing, as his stress affects his health.
  • Truth in Television: It is possible for people who have chronic stress to develop fevers when under heavy, emotional distress.
