  • Aharen-san wa Hakarenai: Chapter 82 reveals that Raido and Aharen share the same birthday so they throw a dual surprise party.
  • Akiba Maid War: Episode 5 has Nagomi set up a birthday event for Ranko, unaware that the other Ton Tokoton Staff have been preparing for her celebration in secret.
  • Akuma no Riddle crosses this over with A Day in the Limelight. Suzu's birthday is July 14, and on the same day she tries to kill Haru by strapping a bomb to her, but eventually apologizes.
  • In Blue Exorcist, the rest of the class discovers that Izumo's birthday is coming up and try to throw her a surprise party. She eventually finds out and objects that they didn't do this for anybody else, and decrees that this will be one big party for everyone's birthday.
  • Bocchi the Rock!: Chapter 29 has the Starry Christmas party on Christmas Eve, which also doubles as Seika's birthday party. Chapters 63-64 have the next year's party.
  • B-Project: Episode 10 is Yashamaru's, and the group tries to do their darndest to give him the best possible birthday party for all that he's done for them. Unfortunately, he's nowhere to be found, and he didn't answer to anyone the whole day, making everyone at Gandala suitably worried.
  • Date A Live: The first chapter of Shido Countdown is of Mana's 15th birthday. After waking up, shee expresses joy that her breasts have gotten bigger with her age.
  • The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.: The first season finale. Saiki's friends plan a surprise party for him — but not only does Saiki sniff them out immediately, they get the date wrong — it's actually Saiki's father's birthday.
  • Digimon Data Squad: Marcus' sister Kristy has her birthday celebrated in "A Birthday Kristy Will Never Forget!". Unfortunately for Marcus that same day, he has to take a make up test in school and has Thomas to take his place and take good care of Kristy.
  • Dinosaur Sanctuary: Chapter 11 involves the park celebrating the 36th birthday of Hanako the Tyrannosaurus.
  • A Dog of Flanders (1975): Episode 23 is Alois' birthday, and she invites almost the whole neighbourhood. Nello gifts Alois her favourite flowers, remembering she mentioned them a while back. When Alois thanks him, he explains Patrasche found them, so Alois rewards the dog with a huge meal.
  • Doraemon has a few episodes celebrating the birthdays of either Nobita or his friends, including one where Nobita and Doraemon plans a surprise party for Shizuka and another where Nobita is celebrating his own b-day and decide to skip over a decade into the future via the Time Machine to see how his adult life would look like. There's also The Genius Nobita's Airship Amusement Park, a 2005 two-parter episode dedicated to the titular robot cat's 903rd b-day.
  • Dragon Ball:
    • Two filler episode in Dragon Ball Z have the celebrations of the birthdays of Umigame/Turtle and Gohan. In the former, Kuririn's girlfriend Marron breaks up with him.
    • In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and Dragon Ball Super, Beerus and Whis show up on Earth for the first time when Bulma is celebrating her birthday. In the film, she claims to be 38, although she should be seven years older.
  • Episode 10 of Futari wa Pretty Cure takes place on Honoka's birthday, and Nagisa frets about being too broke to get her a present.
  • Gundam:
    • Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Relena is the Spoiled Sweet daughter of Vice-Foreign Minister Darlian, and the first episode opens with her celebrating her fifteenth birthday on April 7. In the real world, April 7th was when Gundam Wing was first broadcast in Japan in 1995, and when Mobile Suit Gundam was first broadcast in Japan in 1979.
    • Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury: Enforced in one episode where Suletta encurages Elan to think of the day they duelled as his birthday. He does...and dies singing "happy birthday" to himself as he's incinerated for failing to complete his mission's objectives. Unbeknownst to most people, he was replaced by another Elan clone.
  • Haganai: Episode 7 of season 2 has the main characters celebrating Kobato's birthday.
  • Handsome Girl and Crossdressing Boy: Two chapters focus on the birthdays of Iori and Hazuki, respectively. Hazuki's birthday, in particular, is the lead-in to the manga's final arc.
  • Heaven's Lost Property: Played With in an extra chapter after the finale. Mikako randomly tells Eishiro she wants to celebrate a birthday party. Then, Mikako goes around punching all the characters who nearly ruin her celebration plans and finally conforms with eating cake with Eishiro... Only for Eishiro to point out that day is neither hers nor his birthday, meaning she only wanted an excuse to spend time with him.
  • Hell Girl: To ham in how lavish Yuria lives, she celebrates an exquisite birthday party funded by her daddy's money.
  • Hello! Sandybell: Mark celebrates his birthday in episode 8, and invites all the friends he's made so far, including Kitty, Edward, Charles' Gang of Bullies and the neighborhood Ragtag Bunch of Misfits. The party doubles as a Masquerade Ball. Sandybell secretly plans to meet up eith him, and the two dance together, and then hang out at the Wellington castle.
  • Honoo no Alpen Rose: One episode focuses on Jeudi celebrating her 14th birthday at the Dunant mansion with Lundi, Leonhardt, Martha and all her friends. She also receives a special heart-shaped pendant from Hélène, while Leon plays a special melody for her.
  • The iDOLM@STER: Combined with Birthday Episode for good measure - Yukiho's is on Christmas Eve, so the Christmas party in episode 22 doubles as her birthday party. She cries Tears of Joy afterwards.
  • Jewelpet:
    • Jewelpet Twinkle☆ dedicates one episode to Akari's birthday, and another to her mother's.
    • Jewelpet the Movie: Sweets Dance Princess: Princess Mama's tries to celebrate her 7th birthday celebration, but it's put on hold when Gumimin arrives and eats her whole birthday cake in one go. Things don't get serious until he transforms into a monster and starts to uncontrollably eat the buildings of Sweetsland.
  • Kaze no Shōjo Emily: One of the later episodes centers around Rhoda's birthday party. She invites Emily to it, hoping she would recite one of her poems, but Emily freezes on the spot. Luckily, Emily has a good time since she manages to dance with her crush, Teddy.
  • Lady!!:
    • One episode has Lynn throw Paul a birthday party at her house, with Sophie in attendance. She spends most of it being rude to Lynn, angering Paul until he yells at her to stop, and reveals that he didn't want to invite her but Lynn asked him to. Sophie then runs off in tears.
    • It was cut out of the anime, but in the original manga, Lynn celebrated her birthday while in Japan with her grandparents, and they gifted her a Fairytale Wedding Dress.
  • Kaguya-sama: Love Is War:
    • There's an entire story arc devoted to Kaguya wanting to celebrate Shirogane's seventeenth birthday without revealing her feelings for him.
    • Kaguya's seventeenth birthday is very briefly touched upon in Chapter 162. Fujiwara mentions in the following chapter that she wants to throw her a belated suprise birthday party (as Kaguya spent the whole day at her family's home in Kyoto) to insure that Kaguya will get her something good for her own birthday, but she never gets around to it.
    • Chapter 200 is devoted to the student council celebrating Fujiwara and Ishigami's birthday.
    • Played For Laughs in spin-off series We Want to Talk About Kaguya where Karen and Erika throw a birthday party for Kaguya without her actually being in attendance (comparing it to celebrating Jesus' birthday on Christmas).
  • The 43rd episode of Kira Kira Happy Hirake Cocotama is about the Cocotamas throwing a birthday party for Haruka.
  • Kotaro Lives Alone: Kotaro's neighbors are shocked when learn he Never Had a Birthday Party before and didn't know people actually celebrate birthdays. They prepare one in secret and Kotaro practices blowing out the candles. Kotaro later declares that he will share his birthday eith the neighborhood's stray cats, as like him, they also Never Had a Birthday Party before.
  • Mayo Chiki!: Kureha, the resident token little sister, has a dedicated birthday episode to add more flavor to the protagonist's character. Not to mention, the episode was complete with a female cast birthday song with some Gratuitous English.
  • Magu Chan God Of Destruction: In chapter 43, Magu and friends celebrate Ruru's birthday with a Surprise Party...a couple of months early.
  • Mizutama Honey Boy: The gag of the Birthday Episode is that the birthday girl herself forgot, no one else did.
  • Mimia Hime: An entire chapter of a manga is dedicated to Mimia's 11th birthday.
  • Mischievous Twins: The Tales of St. Clare's
    • On Janet's birthday, the girls throw her a surprise party in the middle of the night, and manage to get away with it. Miss Kennedy finds out, but stays quiet, being the Cool Teacher.
    • A few days before the twin's birthday, they have a fight and give each other the silent treatment. Thankfully, they make up just in time to celebrate their birthday together.
  • My Hero Academia Smash!!: Habuko enlists the help of Class 1-A to throw a birthday party for Tsuyu. She's happy that they all came together for her to the point she doesn't have the heart to tell her that her birthday is in February.
  • My Monster Secret has chapter 62, dedicated to the birthday of... Akari of all people. Between Akari being obviously not very enthusiastic and Akane doing her best to twist the knife, her students desperately try to cheer her up — with every attempt backfiring in some way.
    Akari: [looking at Aizawa's hand-made cake with a single candle] ... I'm sorry... I guess there isn't enough space on the cake to put all the candles of my age, huh...
  • Niji no Kanata e! Shoujo Diana Monogatari: Near the end of the short, the school surprises Diana by planning a surprise party for her 7th birthday, with a cake and candles.
  • Nisekoi: Chitoge has one in episode 11. Seishirou surprises her by inviting a few of her classmates, and much of the episode is focused on Kosaki and Raku buying presents for her.
  • Nurse Angel Ririka SOS begins on the main character's 10th birthday and ends on her 11th birthday.
  • A birthday movie in fact. Run Away Locomon is set on Rika's birthday. She finds out about and bemoans Jeri throwing her a surprise party from Takato. The movie essentially boils down to the Tamers going to Rika's house for the party and dealing with said Locomon on the way. Rika's Disappeared Dad issues are used against her by the Parasimon to control her and attack Takato. She does make it to the party in the end, but she's pretty much the only one not enjoying herself.
  • In Chapter 10 of Ojojojo, Haru becomes jealous when Kawayanagi and Tendou refuse to invite her to their outing in the city. After following them around all day, she learns that they were trying to pick out the right birthday present for her. Haru is very touched by their gesture, since it's the first time she's received such a meaningful gift.
  • Ojamajo Doremi: Hazuki gets this on Valentine's Day in Naisho. Doremi also gets one in Motto.
  • PaRappa the Rapper:
    • Parappa The Rapper: Matt's birthday is celebrated in episode 20. Because of his Nice Guy personality, many people attend.
    • The tenth episode of PJ Berri No Mogu Mogu Munya Munya has PaRappa being bummed that no one appears to remember his birthday, then get pleasantly surprised when he learns his friends have arranged a party after all.
  • Princess Sarah: Episode 4 is Ermangarde's birthday, so she leaves to visit her aunt. Miss Minchin is angry that she did so without asking permission and tries to beat her, but when Sarah intervenes, she is forced to desist (since at that point Sarah was an important student).
  • Pokémon: The Series had this in a Japan-exclusive Pikachu Short called Pikachu's Big Sparkling Search. In this short, Pikachu and Piplup find out that it is a Bellossom's birthday, but due to an incident involving Pikachu and Piplup with a ball that caused the bracelet's jewels to scatter, Pikachu, Piplup, a Spiky-eared Pichu and a Smoochum set out to find the missing jewels before Meowth does.
  • Pretty Cure:
    • Doki Doki Precure Pretty Cure: In episode 42, it's Aguri's birthday, so Makoto and DB set up a surprise party and buy ingredients to make her a cake.
    • Hirogaru Sky! Pretty Cure: Several episoders aired on or close to specific character's birthdays. Each episode features a special card for that character. Episode 6 aired on Ellee's birthday, Episode 16 aired on Tsubasa's birthday, Episode 24 aired on Mashiro's birthday, Episode 27 aired on Ageha's birthday and Episode 33 aired on Sora's birthday.
  • Onegai My Melody combines this with Halloween Special.
    • Shuffle #31: Upset that no one remembered her birthday, she tries to ruin a costume party but is stopped by Bunny-Ears Mask, who My Melo fails to de-summon. Kuromi becomes suspicious of his identity, so she becomes Kurumi Nui to dance with him. The Hiiragis give her her much-wanted party, and Keiichi dances with her.
    • Sukkiri #31: The night before Halloween, Mr. Zou (the former king) eats My Melo's dad's pumpkin patch, including the one massive pumpkin he treasured. Dad becomes a Huff-Huff, plowing and sprouting pumpkins all over Mari Land and destroying Kuromi's party in the process.
  • Robotech: Annie's birthday is celebrated in Birthday Blues, where she expresses happiness that for the first time in years she won't celebrate it alone. The narrtaor adds that the Robotech Rebels have at this point become a family.
  • Rojika To Rakkasei: Chapter 4 is about Rakka's attempt to decide on a gift for Rojika's birthday. Rakka reads Rojika's diary to get an idea for a birthday present. From what we see, it's filled with dry, blunt, one sentence descriptions of what happened that day, all written in chickenscratch.
  • Shinmai Shimai No Futari Gohan: Chapter 8 focuses on the sisters celebrating Sachi's birthday. It's also revealed that this is the first time anybody has thrown a birthday party for Sachi - Her father has apparently been so busy that he's never celebrated his daughter's birthday with her in person, though she mentions that he has sent her gifts.
  • Sakura Wars (2000): Episode 12 focuses on Sakura and the others trying to throw Iris the first real birthday party she's ever had.
  • Sailor Moon:
    • Sailor Moon: The titular character is thrown a surprise party by her friends and is targeted by the villains.
    • Act 28 of Sailor Moon Crystal happened on Rei's birthday.
  • The twelfth episode of Sakura Wars (2000) centers on the protagonists trying to throw Iris the first real birthday party she's ever had.
  • Sekirei: The side story of Volume 14 is about the harem trying to bake a cake to celebrate Minato's birthday. In the end, they fail and Minato himself buys the cake.
  • Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion: Episode 41 celebrates Hayato's 11th birthday, with his teammates secretly meeting up in trying to decode his rail language to figure out what type of birthday gift to give him. They end up gifting him a train schedule book issued the month of his birthday, which was October of 2007.
  • Skip Beat!: Kyoko's birthday is celebrated in volume 20. The cast of Dark Moon give her a large bouquet of lilies and roses as a present.
  • Slow Loop: The final episode of the season partially focuses on Koharu's birthday and Hiyori struggling to find a good present.
  • Squid Girl: In one episode, Squid Girl discovers the surface dwellers' custom of birthday parties, and declares today to be her birthday to take advantage of the goodies.
  • The Strike Witches episode "[1]" takes place during Yoshika and Sanya's birthday.
  • One key subplot in Summer Wars is The Clan coming together to separate Sakae's birthday, making her death more tragic.
  • Sunday Without God: Alice turns 16 in Episode 9 and the whole cast celebrates it.
  • Early in their partnership in Tiger & Bunny, Kotetsu finds out Barnaby's birthday is coming up a plans a surprise party involving a fake mugging. It ends up being a disaster and gets hijacked by an actual criminal chase, but this leads to the first real "power of teamwork" moment for the pair.

  • Episode 21 of Vandread revolves around the resident Stoic Meia's birthday. The problem is, she is an avid Birthday Hater and the rest of the crew goes to ridiculous lengths to rope her into at least some kind of celebration—which doesn't go well. Suffice to say, she almost performs a Heroic Sacrifice before it is over.
  • Wowser: The episode "Slap Happy Birthday" focused on Wowser's birthday, which involves him throwing a party for all of his friends. Unfortunately, thanks to Ratso adding extra spices to the cake that Wowser was making, this results in everyone who's had a taste of the cake to act berserk.
  • Yuki Yuna is a Hero: In Episode 3, The Hero Club throws a birthday party for Karin at her place since she Never Had a Birthday Party before. Karin is so shocked she can't hide her happiness.
  • Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs:
    • Chapter 57 has everyone celebrating Kogarashi's birthday at the hot springs until they're interrupted by Karura, the daughter of Kogarashi's former enemy.
    • Chapter 181 is about Yuuna's first birthday party celebrated by all her friends at Yuragi Inn.
