And The Fandom Rejoiced: Mylittle Pony Friendship Is Magic
Bronies might very well be the most excitable and easily pleased fandom ever, and why not? When you have a great show like Friendship is Magic, there's plenty to go yay!~ about.
General
A newMy Little Pony series? Well considering how lame the latest couple of adaptations has been it probably isn't going to be anything specia — wait, Lauren Faust is in charge of it?!? Male characters? They're bringing back Applejack with her G1 color scheme?! A villain for the first time since G1? Winged Unicorns?!? Well, this might be awesome.
A second season is coming out? YES.
And a third!
And a fourth!
The fourth season being confirmed to be 26 episodes long brought about a particularly strong burst of fandom-rejoicing as the third season was only 13 episodes long (compared to Seasons 1 and 2, which were 26 episodes each). The fans feared that this "short season" was the beginning of the end of the series.
A new My Little Pony promo? Is this a parody of "California Girls"? That's way out of the target demographics range. I wonder if they do know? Nah, probably no-WAIT!? Did he just say "bronies", and "DJ PON-3"!!!!?? Hasbro and the Hub also sent a letter to Equestria Daily!? Plus they also clarified about when the spot will premiere!!?? YES!!! WE, THE BRONIES, ARE KNOWN!! BROHOOFS TO HASBRO AND THE HUB!! MAJOR BROHOOFS!!!
Hmm. The internet is obsessed with My Little Pony. Too bad it's not i- Wait, it's showing on Boomerang in the UK and Ireland? Maybe one episode...
Not anymore. It hasn't been shown in the UK and Ireland since March 2012.
Back in April 2011, the YouTube user FluttershyElsa posted this PMV of "Weird Al" Yankovic's Polkarama which managed to get both the attention and the endorsement of "Weird Al" himself (a feat that would later be repeated with its sequel). As a result of him effectively affirming the show and its fandom into the Pantheon of Nerdvana, show director Jayson Thiessen invited Al to do a guest appearance on the show, sparking speculation that he would make a Season 2 appearance. With Season 2 come and gone, however, that speculation had died down. But things have a tendency to change rapidly, as there is now damn good reason for thatspeculation tobe rekindled.
Furthermore, the comic books are genuinely funny and exciting material and are the hot sellers they deserve to be!
Bushiroad is finally bringing Friendship is Magic to Japan after a looong two and a half year wait and after Takara Tomy called quits on the franchise last year. The best thing about this: the cast from Tantei Opera Milky Holmes are coming back to voice the main characters!
What could possibly be bigger than that? I dunno, how about Celestia being voiced by Kikuko Inoue?!
Japanese bronies eventually got their turn: when it was announced that the Milky Holmes cast would return to voice 2/3 of the main cast, the response was a resounding "meh". As turns out, two of the voice actors were withheld for a reason: cue Miyuki Sawashiro as Twilight and Emiri Katou as Fluttershy...
Season 2 will be more appealing to specifically bronies? Sign me up.
ALRIGHT, John De Lancie is going to be playing a VILLAIN. And he is playing a god-like trickster who takes joy in personally messing with people? Approval.
Princess Luna, a character who got one minute of screen time and one line of dialogue in the second episode, not only returning after a year-long absence, but also getting her own focus episode. This was especially important since her absence had created her own fanbase.
What's that? Rainbow Dash refers to the grey pegasus as "Derpy"? She has a voice?!?!? And the fanbase goes INSANE.See for yourself.
The cherry on top of the whole season is DJ PON-3/Vinyl Scratch appearing again in the finale and revealing her true eye color.
The guy heading the Q&A panel said he couldn't confirm or deny, but did say Season 3 would be "great and powerful"
, MORE LUNA, more crazy ponies, Octaviapossibly being voiced and singing with Raritynote When the actors were asked which still silent background pony they'd like to voice, and then having Octavia described to them (the VAs don't know much about background ponies beyond Derpy), Cathy Weseluck did a quick demo of what she thought Octavia would be like. She may have been just doing it on the spot, but its enough to get Bronies interested. See it here. And when a song from season 3 was released showing how far Top Draw had come since season 1 and having Spike dancing and SINGING, many bronies cried out: OUR BODIES ARE READY.
Unfortunately, Octavia didn't sing...but everything else occured in some way, shape or form!
A second song was previewed confirming the rumors about the Crystal Empire toys being related to Season 3, as well as Princess Cadence returning. Not to mention that this is the first time a past-gen gimmick (special pony subsets like the Flutter Ponies) is not only in the merchandise but in the show. So we've got season 1 being all about the characters, season 2 dedicated to the in-show universe, and now season 3 gets the mythology references.
Okay, so those new posters were pretty cool, but there probably won't be much season 3 spoiler-ific stuff for a while-wait, possible season 3 pictures?.A post-apocalyptic looking Carousel Boutique and Sweet Apple Acres? The Great and PowerfulTrixie to return!? It's only a month or two Bronies, we can wait that long.
The drought between Season 2 & 3 was rather long (much longer than the one between 1 & 2), so bronies rejoiced when the release date was finally announced for November 10th, 2012.
Spike finallygets to save the day in the Season 3 premiere.
Though many bronies' jaws dropped when the show finally got an irredeemably evil villain who actually died.
The Crystal Ponies feature different eye shapes vaguely reminiscent of Jewel-Eye ponies (minus the creepy backstory of Applejack killing an evil pony-enslaving wizard), which pleases older fans.
The term, "Alicorn" is now canon. Que internet exploding.
That's not even scratching the surface. If we took the time to list all the Fanon that was present in this episode, this show would need two pages. But here are the main points.◊
The resemblance of the "Saddle Arabian" horses to G2 ponies didn't go unnoticed.
"Sleepless In Ponyville" has Luna making an appearance other than a cameo. Not only that, but it also confirms that Luna is a Dream Walker and is capable of giving advice and support like her older sister.
Rainbow Dash officially becoming a Cool Big Sis to Scootaloo in the same episode certainly made a lot of fans happy.
"Wonderbolt Academy": Yes! Dash finally living her dream training for the Wonderbolts! Darn, she is resigning on a matter of principle; it's nice to see Dash display a real moral backbone against Lighting Dash's reckless jackassery, but it looks like Status Quo Is God after all in this series. Whoa!, Spitfire coming and talking out of her resignation and promoting her? Whoo-Hoo, Nothing Is the Same Anymore!.
What's this? Applejack is getting her own song? O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
Not to mention, unlike last time, there's nothing in this episode to overshadow her. Just her and her extended family. And one kick-ass song that's perfect for any hoedown.
Don't forget, Braeburn is back for his first appearance since Season 1! PRAISE CELESTIA!
The Brony fanbase were all in for a very unexpected Christmas present when they found out that not only is Discord coming back, but the main cast is trying to reform him as well!
Not just being reformed, but being reformed by Fluttershy.
And they succeed!
The Alicorn Twilight rumors are true?NOOOOOOOOOO!!! But wait, what's this? She won't change as a character? And Lauren Faust herself is hopeful that the current showrunners can pull this off? This just might work.
The episode will be a musical with seven songs?! Potential is building, just one more day!
After 3 seasons of dormancy, Princess Celestia finally gets to sing! And boy, was it worth the wait.
Multiple appearances of Derpy, who had been sadly absent almost this entire season.
Season 4
Season 4 confirmed. 26 episodes. Cue the internet exploding.
It's actually getting a summer theatrical release. Granted, as of this writing it's limited, but even so, a theatrical release is nothing to sneeze at.
Said movie is called "Equestria Girls"... and it's going to involve Twilight going into a human world. NOOOOOOOO!!! ... But wait, what's this? A trailer has been released? No more cheap-looking anthro designs like had been advertised for the past few months? The voice actors doing the human-counterpart voices? There's still ponies in the beginning and it's just Twilight going into an alternate world? Daniel Ingram's doing the music? References in the trailer like Human!Scootaloo doing the chicken dance?! What do you know, bronies... this just might have some potential.
