* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Copycat gets his after Mao defeats the [[MixAndMatchCritter snake-centipedes]] he was [[PetMonstrosity raising as pets]], when Copycat's rants to Fahrin make it clear that he does what he wants regardless of the safety of others, and he has no qualms against killing people... unless they're [[{{Bishonen}} pretty boys]], and Copycat [[VillainousCrush absolutely counts Mao as one]].

* ConvectionSchmonvection: When Yokoka enters a volcano to visit Yang's shop she walks dangerously close ([[DoesNotLikeShoes and barefoot]]) to lava, and suffers no physical harm.

* DoesNotLikeShoes: Yokoka says in the first [[FourthWallMailSlot Q&A strip]] that she goes barefoot because she was never given any shoes, but she likes walking barefoot anyway.

* {{Cameo}}: Haro and Lee from the webcomic ''[[https://amirrorstale.com/ A Mirror's Tale]]'' appear [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-4-page-17/ as background characters]] (and as demons rather than humans) in the village that Mao and Kalliv visit.

* ChildMage: Kalliv is a 13 year old boy whose only meaningful contribution in combat has been to bind the [[BigCreepyCrawlies king centipede]] in [[TentacleRope magic vines]]. Inky is a 14 year old boy who provides [[WhiteMagic healing and support magic]] for his party, as his father won't let him use attack magic until he's older. Mao is shown to know how to cast {{fireballs}} as a child during [[TroubledBackstoryFlashback a flashback]], and states that he and Yokoka have known a spell to [[NightVisionGoggles see in the dark]] since they were kids.

* TentacleRope: Kalliv binds the [[BigCreepyCrawlies king centipede]] with magic vines, allowing Mao a clear shot to cast the {{fireball|s}} which killed it.

* VariantChess: Fahrin is playing a solo game of what appears to be chess with unorthodox pieces, when first introduced at the end of chapter 4.

* AlchemyIsMagic: Pinky utilizes "weapon alchemy", a Metals elemental skill, to create a "[[WhipItGood Rose Whip]]" weapon for Mao using a [[BigCreepyCrawlies king centipede's]] fangs. Pinky and [[TheApprentice his apprentice]] Inky are shown doing this [[SideStoryBonusArt in a wallpaper]].

* ElementalWeapon: Mao [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-9-page-2/ sets his whip aflame]], and sends electricity through it to [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-2-page-37/ shock Yfa]] and [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-9-page-6/ Cadmium]].

* ItemCrafting: Pinky is a "[[AlchemyIsMagic weapon alchemist]]", and Inky is [[TheApprentice his apprentice]]. Mao's [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-6-page-1/ reason for visiting]] the underground village was to get Pinky to craft him a [[WhipItGood new whip]], using materials obtained from the [[BigCreepyCrawlies king centipede]] he killed previously. While the actual weapon crafting happens between pages, it is [[SideStoryBonusArt depicted in a wallpaper]].

* MorphWeapon: Yokoka and Mao wear ribbons which they can transform into weapons at will. Yokoka changes hers into a sword, and Mao changes his into both a whip and a dagger.

* WhipItGood: Mao's weapon of choice is a whip, which he's used in every fight he's been in. After his [[MorphWeapon ribbon weapon]] got [[WreckedWeapon dissolved]], he went out of his way to have a new whip [[ItemCrafting crafted for him]].

* ThroughAFaceFullOfFur: Yokoka blushes out of embarrassment while in cat form after waking up in Valyn's house, and Raya manages to display BlushStickers when she's giving PuppyDogEyes.

The webcomic began in September 2015, and has been regularly updating on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays since, with the exception of short hiatuses between chapters.

* CuteLittleFangs: Practically the default for demons, beasts, and spirits. Notably, the human Grace and HalfHumanHybrid Yokoka and Mao lack fangs, though [[https://twitter.com/ClefdeSoll/status/1316557675648315392 Yokoka's reference sheets]] do say "cute little fangs in FanArt is great!".

* GladiatorGames: Mao asks if there's a dedicated place to train in the [[SpartanWay Darkness Clan]], in order to grow strong enough to [[PinocchioSyndrome break]] his [[CursedWithAwesome curse]], and Copycat tells him about an arena "[[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-8-page-45/ where you can fight to your heart's content]]". After a TimeSkip, the next chapter begins with him fighting a giant [[MixAndMatchCritter boar-goat]] in that arena.

* PinocchioSyndrome: Mao was a [[HalfHumanHybrid half-]][[WasOnceAMan human]] prior to becoming [[CursedWithAwesome cursed]] as a child, which left him as a [[CatGirl catboy]]. In his efforts to break his curse and become human(ish) again, he's befriended the dangerous spirit Copycat, travelled to the [[TheSpartanWay Darkness Clan]], and risked his life to get stronger by [[GladiatorGames fighting giant beasts in an arena]] there.

* DarkSkinnedRedhead: Fahrin [[NamesToRunAwayFrom/ThePerson the Reaper]] has dark skin and punk red hair.

* AmnesiacResonance: Yokoka surprises herself when she instinctively remembers [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-2-page-7/ how to put on clothes]], despite [[BalefulPolymorph being a cat]] for [[IdentityAmnesia as long as she can remember]].

* BalefulPolymorph: The barrier around Betel's Forest, among other things, turns people into a beast form as they pass through it. Anyone who [[VoluntaryShapeshifting can normally shapeshift]] is also afflicted with ShapeshifterModeLock.

* LightGirlDarkBoy: Yokoka has light skin, yellow eyes, and her hair is white with pink streaks, while her twin brother Mao has more tanned skin, brown eyes, and his hair is brown with black streaks. [[BalefulPolymorph Their cat forms]] also [[PaleFemalesDarkMales have a similar colour scheme]]. A [[FourthWallMailSlot Q&A strip]] explains the colour differences as Yokoka having [[https://yokokasquest.com/qna1/ a type of albinism]].

* OurManticoresAreSpinier: Betelgeuse is a manticore with a [[CatlikeDragons feline body, draconic wings]], ram horns, a scorpion tail, and a forked tongue. She's also [[MegaNeko so large]] that she never leaves her cave to avoid accidentally demolishing her village, and [[BalefulPolymorph her usual form is that of a person]].

* PetDressUp: Azha is [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-9-page-40/ shown dressing up]] his cat {{familiar}} Misha, in [[AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal a cape and bow]] which [[CoordinatedClothes matches his own outfit]]. Yfa also had to [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-1-page-59/ tie Yokoka's ribbon to her foreleg]], as she couldn't do this herself while [[BalefulPolymorph in cat form]].

* ShapeshifterModeLock: Anyone who enters Betel's Forest is [[BalefulPolymorph turned into a beast form]], and those who [[VoluntaryShapeshifting can normally shapeshift]] are unable to revert while remaining there. Kalliv couldn't revert until chapter 3, despite leaving the forest in chapter 2.

* TalkingAnimal: Most residents of Betel's Forest appear to be regular animals who can talk, though it's possible that some are only animals [[BalefulPolymorph due to the barrier's effects]]. Elsewhere, the creatures bullying Tomo were able to speak Forest language but didn't show human-like behaviour beyond that. There are also [[CivilizedAnimal civilized]] and [[FunnyAnimal funny]] talking animals, such as Yfa's family and Misha.

* TroubledBackstoryFlashback: Mao [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-9-page-14/ has a dream flashback]], which details the events immediately following the prologue. This shows Mao and Yokoka [[BalefulPolymorph turned into cats]], Mao worrying over the unconscious Yokoka, Yokoka's continual disregard for Mao, Mao realizing that he's suffering from IdentityAmnesia, Mao escaping from Betel's Forest, and Mao returning so as not to abandon Yokoka.

* UndressingTheUnconscious: When Yokoka passes through Betel's barrier, she changes back from [[BalefulPolymorph being a cat]] to an adult person, in the same clothes she last wore, and passes out; her ripped child-sized clothes are removed by the time she [[WakingUpElsewhere wakes up in Yin's house]]. When Yokoka is [[spoiler:[[CurbStompBattle beaten unconscious]] by Hurricane]], her ruined clothes are removed and [[spoiler:replaced [[BandageMummy with bandages]] when she wakes up [[HospitalSurprise being cared for]]]] by Grace.

* AwesomeMcCoolname: [[NamesToRunAwayFrom/{{Nouns}} Hurricane]], Betelgeuse [[StellarName of Orion]], and Fahrin [[NamesToRunAwayFrom/ThePerson the Reaper]].

* OcularGushers: Kalliv cries massive tears after reuniting with Mao, after believing that Mao had abandoned him.

* TalkingAnimal: most residents of Betel's Forest appear to be regular animals who can talk, though it's possible that some are only animals [[BalefulPolymorph due to the barrier's effects]]. Elsewhere, the creatures bullying Tomo were able to speak Forest language but didn't show human-like behaviour beyond that. * SupernaturalIsPurple: Anything associated with the [[ColorCodedElements Dream element tends to be purple]], including the [[PaintingTheMedium speech bubbles and font]] for Dream language, spell effects, dreamscape backgrounds, and [[ElementalEyeColors Copycat's eyes]].

* {{Meganekko}}: Grace spends her waking hours wearing glasses, and fits the meganekko stereotypes insofar as her friends describe her as cute, and her stats page says she's intelligent and a fast learner.

* FantasyWorldMap: A map covering an area of Cisum that Yokoka's Quest takes place in is included as an extra in the Yokoka's Quest printed book (and is currently viewable online [[https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/clefdesoll/yokokas-quest-volume-1/posts/2613015 within a Kickstarter update]]).

* FingerSnapLighter: Mao does this to light a cigarette he was given by Grace.

* FourthWallMailSlot: The author has taken questions from the readers for two anniversary events. The answers to these were made into Q&A strips, with either the characters or the AuthorAvatar [[LettersToTheEditor giving the answers]].
* TheFullNameAdventures: The name of the webcomic is Yokoka's Quest.
* FunnyAnimal: Yfa's family are nomadic animals who [[TalkingAnimal can talk]], wear [[HalfDressedCartoonAnimal some clothes]] or [[AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal accessories]], live in a furnished tent, own and presumably read books, make medicines, and so on.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: Yfa and Kalliv playing hide-and-seek in the background while Grace is talking with Mao.
* FunWithHomophones: Yfa talks about the "sea". Yokoka doesn't know what this is, and thinks he's talking about the "see" (which she later misremembers as the "sight").

* CantHoldHisLiquor: Kalliv is seen [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-4-page-78/ inspecting a drink]] and [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-4-page-80/ being encouraged to drink it]] at the end of chapter 4, then [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-5-page-40/ appears to be hungover]] when woken up in chapter 5.

* CatSmile: A lot of characters have a cat smile (to no surprise, including the cats). Often leads to showing their CuteLittleFangs.

* CivilizedAnimal: In Kalliv's flashback, he and his family appear to occupy the space between TalkingAnimal (they slept huddled together as mice, in a [[ArborealAbode hollowed out tree]], and Kalliv was [[KidnappingBirdOfPrey snatched away to be eaten]]) and FunnyAnimal (the walls of their home had household objects and a written notice attached to them), despite Kalliv being able to [[VoluntaryShapeshifting shapeshift]] into a person.

* CoordinatedClothes: Azha wears a very similar outfit and colour scheme to his cat {{familiar}} Misha's [[AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal cape and bow]].
* {{Courier}}: Vivi is the cute critter who delivers the mail in Betel's Forest.

* DudeLooksLikeALady: Yokoka says she thought the LonghairedPrettyBoy Azha was a girl at first. Grace mistakenly refers to Yfa as "she" when first meeting him, though this may have been based on his voice.

* ElementalWeapon: Mao sends electricity through his whip, and sets his whip aflame.

* BlushSticker: Raya sports these together with PuppyDogEyes to maximize her [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter cuteness]], when convincing both Kaga and Yfa to let her go out to look for a mushroom with Yfa.

* BubblegloopSwamp: Yokoka and Yfa travel through a colourful swamp [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-4-page-19/ in chapter 4]], where they meet Yfa's siblings Raya, Kaga, and Tomo, who are temporarily residing there.

* HiddenElfVillage: Kaga states that he knows most locations in the Forest Clan but has never heard of the village in Betel's Forest. This is likely due to the magic of the barrier around it.

* OhMyGods: Yokoka exclaims "[[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-2-page-26/ Oh my goddess!]]"; given [[AmnesiacHero her amnesia]] it's possible she can't remember her goddess's name, though Mao [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-4-page-31/ uses it later]] (but less emphatically). Another example includes Kaga's "[[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-4-page-24/ Where in Methuselah's name have you been?]]".

** Spirit bird (lesser spirit): Copycat, Kaga, and Yfa's father are spirit birds. Mao refers to Copycat as "[[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-7-page-12/ some kind of lesser spirit]]". Kaga was previously only part bird [[note]](as shown in a SideStoryBonusArt wallpaper)[[/note]] but became "[[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-4-page-71/ a full bird]]" by the time the story takes place. Spirit birds [[TheAgeless have no age]] and are [[VoluntaryShapeshifting able to shapeshift]] into [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-4-page-5/ anything they can imagine]]. There are also birds who aren't spirits, such as Chirpy.

* PuppyDogEyes: Raya sports these together with [[BlushSticker blush stickers]] to maximize her [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter cuteness]], when convincing both Kaga and Yfa to let her go out to look for a mushroom with Yfa.

* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Raya is a cute furry CheerfulChild who especially fits this label to a tee. She maximises her cuteness with PuppyDogEyes and BlushStickers when convincing Kaga and Yfa to let her go out to look for a mushroom with Yfa.

* AllThereInTheManual: Details such as Mao's [[UniversalPoison immunity to poison]], Yokoka's Moon Clan allegiance, Yokoka and Grace's elements, and so on, are detailed on the between-chapter status screens long before they become relevant to the comics.

* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: While many demons have skin tones within human ranges, a lot of them do not. Kalliv is green, Hurricane is greyish purple, and some background characters have even more vivid colours including [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-4-pages-8-9/ yellow]] and [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-4-page-13/ purple]]. Their even more colourful body markings, FacialMarkings, and hair further adds to this.

* ArbitraryHeadcountLimit: Implied InterfaceSpoiler that Yokoka's and Mao's parties will max out at 5 characters, as this is the number of slots shown for characters at the end of each chapter, though there doesn't appear to be any in-universe reason not to exceed this.

* AuthorAvatar: Chris appeared in the third [[LettersToTheEditor Q&A strip]] (but not in the actual comic) to answer reader questions. The author uses some of their characters, particularly Copycat, for their profile pic across a number of sites, but these aren't author avatars.

* BlindingBangs: Kalliv's eyes aren't visible beneath his hair while in demon form, though there's no indication that this impacts his sight. His eyes are uncovered while in [[{{Animorphism}} mouse form]]

* AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal: Vivi only wears a necktie. Misha only wears a cape, ribbon, and headpiece. Yfa wears only a bow, as do his siblings Tomo and Kaga by the end of chapter 4 (his sister Raya is [[HalfDressedCartoonAnimal the exception among the family]]).
* AccidentalKidnapping: Anyone who wanders through Betel's barrier ends up settling in the village and forgetting their previous lives. After leaving the barrier, Kalliv just wants to go home to his real family (but can't remember where it is), and Yfa's family are shocked that Yfa has returned after disappearing for years.

** A form of AllThereInTheManual, as Azha provides the reader with a phonetic pronunciation guide due to the author repeatedly being asked how to pronounce Yfa. Their pronunciations can be also be heard in the [[https://kickstarter.yokokasquest.com/ Kickstarter video]].
* AdventureRebuff: Valyn refuses to take Yokoka with him on his journeys. Yokoka heads home and almost immediately decides to run away on an adventure anyway.

* YouthfulFreckles: Raya has fur [[FacialMarkings markings on her cheeks]] which resemble freckles, contributing to her RidiculouslyCuteCritter appearance.

* {{Asexuality}}: After being pestered by her friends about getting a boyfriend (clearly not for the first time), Grace says she's not interested in dating, not a lesbian, and [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-5-page-28/ "I'm not interested at all"]]. The [[SideStoryBonusArt monthly wallpaper]] for Pride Month 2020 also features her wearing an asexual pride wristband.

* VoluntaryShapeshifting: The beast/demon and demon/beast characters are able to switch between a demon (person) form and a beast form. They mostly appear to be able to do this freely, though Kalliv said he's [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-7-page-41/ unable to switch to his demon form when scared]]. Misha is also able to shapeshift into a [[PantheraAwesome big sabre-tooth cat]]. Spirit birds, such as Copycat, and [[MixedAncestry part spirit birds]], such as Yfa, are [[https://yokokasquest.com/comic/chapter-4-page-5/ able to shapeshift into anything they can imagine]].
