Worse yet, Nick, unaware of both Lauren's modifications to the franchise and the bronies, completely got the target audience wrong and expected it to be the same as the abomination that is G3.5 ''Newborn Cuties''. This ruined the German dub for many, for at least the first season was dubbed ''WesternAnimation/DoraTheExplorer''-style, as if they were made for 3-year-olds. They got their act together by season 2 and even got Michael Pan, the German voice of Data, as Discord's German voice (the German voice of Q was unavailable due to AuthorExistenceFailure, but believe it or not, Michael Pan [[LargeHam hammed]] ''circles'' around Creator/JohnDeLancie), but the damage was done.\\

* FanNickname: By the truckload.
** The main six ponies are referred to collectively as the [[JustForPun Mane]] Six by fans, though it's not a term used in the show.
*** Officially referred to as this in issue 18 of the comic.
*** And sometimes "The Mane Cast" or "The Mane Seven" if one's willing to include [[ButtMonkey Spike]].
*** The Mane Six minus Twilight Sparkle are commonly called "The [=ReMane=] Five".
*** Also, if any of the Mane Characters has a breakdown, shows off a different personality, or otherwise something is different about them than usual, it tends to get its own nickname – such as "Pinkamena" for straight-haired depressed Pinkie, "Flutterage" for Fluttershy's rampage in "The Best Night Ever", "Flutterbitch" for Fluttershy's Discorded personality in "The Return of Harmony", and "Psycho Twilight" (or "Crazy Twilight") for Twilight's breakdown in "Lesson Zero". ** Sweetie Belle is often called "Squeakie Belle" in an endearing manner due to the fact that Claire Corlett's voice often cracked before she hit puberty.
** Almost ''every'' [[MemeticBystander background pony]] has a nickname, and it'd be way too much to list them all. ** The big red dragon from "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E7Dragonshy Dragonshy]]" seems to have attracted the nickname "Basil", after a dragon from the G1 series.
** Thanks to some fans fooling around with Website/YouTube's SoBadItsGood auto-caption function, a lot of fans have taken to calling the Sea Serpent from episode 2 "Steven Magnet".
*** These captions have also inspired the nickname "Reginald" for the green dragon in "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E24OwlsWellThatEndsWell Owl's Well That Ends Well]]".
** Pinkie's sisters are often called Blinkamena/Bellamina Marie ("Blinkie") and Inkamena/Isabelle Lilly ("Inkie"); likewise, her parents are often dubbed "Clyde" and "Sue". [[VideoGame/PacMan There's a theme here.]]
** Prince Blueblood, Celestia's infamous [[AllThereInTheManual very-far-removed]] nephew, was known for a while as "Prince Astron", since he wasn't referred to by name during his first appearance (during Rarity's fantasy sequence in "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E3TheTicketMaster The Ticket Master]]"). When he turned out to be [[PrinceCharmless a pompous jerk]] in "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E26TheBestNightEver The Best Night Ever]]", he quickly attracted a host of unflattering nicknames, including "Prince Glueblood" and "Prince Douchebag".
** Discord is sometimes referred to as [=DisQord=] to draw attention to his voice actor having played Q from ''Series/{{Star Trek|The Next Generation}}''. Some fans have also taken to shortening his name to "Disco", because of a short clip of him doing "the running man" while hopping around in Celestia's stained glass windows.
** The boulder that Discord tricks Rarity into lugging around was dubbed "Dan" by the fans as a result of [=YouTube=] captions. Then the next episode came out, revealing that Rarity had named it "Tom". The boulder is now sometimes known as "Tom Dan" by fans.
** "Tia" is a common pet name for Celestia used by her younger sister Luna among the fandom.
** From "Lesson Zero", Rainbow Dash's aerial dive that utterly decimated Applejack's old barn and left a [[EverythingMakesAMushroom rainbow-colored mushroom cloud]] has been given many different nicknames like the Atomic Rainboom, the Sonic Rainbomb, or the Sonic Rainnuke. The latter seems to be the most popular.
** The NiceHat that Cheerilee gives Spike in "Secret of My Excess" has made the fans give Spike the nickname of Smooth Criminal, to go with all the Music/MichaelJackson jokes.
** The Japanese fansubs on Website/NicoNicoDouga have led to 'Aniki' (Big Bro) for Big Macintosh.
** Japanese fans teasingly call Rarity "Obasan (aunt/old lady)"
** The changeling that took up Pinkie's request to transform into her has become popular enough that ponibooru dubbed the changeling Doomie, based on the line that got it to transform in the first place ("Do me! Do me!").

*** A alternative ending in which a army of Changelings fly into Ponyville just before the credits.

** In Singapore, it was broadcast on Okto weekdays at 12 PM, with absolutely no promos for it. On the flip side, season 2 was shown on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 PM, a primetime slot just one hour before ''TransformersPrime''.
** It's screwed to the extreme by NTV7 in Malaysia. The show was supposed to premiere on March 3, 2012 on said channel, almost a year after it premiered in Singapore. It was yanked in the last minute and replaced with ''LilyTheWitch''. More egregiously is that the sting overlay still shows the airing show as ''My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic''.
*** NTV7 finally brought Season 1 in on July 5th, but at 8:30 AM and only one airing a week with no reruns. Season 2 and 3 are still up in the air as NTV7 wants to assess season 1's ratings before committing to later seasons according to Hasbro Malaysia. Unlike Singapore, no Pay TV providers in Malaysia carry Boomerang.

* ApprovalOfGod: Hasbro and/or Creator/TheHub have sent official material to popular fansites ''Equestria Daily'' and ''Website/{{Ponychan}}'', including exclusive interviews with the show's creative staff. ''Everfree Radio'', a project that started on ''Equestria Daily'', regularly gets clearances to conduct surprisingly lengthy interviews of the show's actors, animators, composers, and writers.

** For Lauren Faust, who'd already had a pretty lucrative career in animation up to that point, mostly working on [[Creator/CraigMcCracken her husband's shows]] and a few scattered Warner Bros. Animation projects (namely as one of the animators of Dean in ''WesternAnimation/TheIronGiant'') but definetly made a name for herself with this show, eventually scoring a deal to do [[WesternAnimation/SuperBestFriendsForever another personalized adaptation of a famous property]] and another to direct ''WesternAnimation/{{Medusa}}'' for SonyPicturesAnimation.

** Asami Yoshida and Yumi Uchiyama are essentially the Japanese equivalents of Tabitha as they provide the majority of the voices of supporting and background characters in the Japanese dub.

** The show as a whole was cancelled in Japan after only two seasons, for unknown reasons.

** For reasons unknown, the Croatial RTL dub on RTL Kockica has skipped over 2 whole seasons inbetween the airings, beginning with season 1 in 2017 and 2018 and following up with season 4 in 2020.

** ''Fanfic/GettingBackOnYourHooves'' had [[spoiler:Trixie be a dorky LargeHam after her HeelFaceTurn was fully completed. This is pretty much what happens with Canon!Trixie when she does the same.]]

* TheCastShowoff: Creator/AndreaLibman (Fluttershy/Pinkie Pie) and Ashleigh Ball (Rainbow Dash/Applejack) provide their own singing voices[[note]]Andrea only sings for Fluttershy, while Shannon Chan-Kent sings for Pinkie[[/note]]. Ashleigh in particular is the lead singer of the band Music/HeyOcean. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nhssMi2FtA There's a reason why fans love Rainbow Dash's singing]]. Subverted earlier on by the lack of songs for Applejack and Rainbow Dash. The latter notably did not get a song to herself until Season 5.

* ChildrenVoicingChildren: The main trio of young ponies are voiced by (initially) two 10-year-olds and a 13-year-old, fulfilling this trope for the first several years of the show's run.[[note]]Claire Corlett and Michelle Creber, both born in 1999, voice Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom respectively; Madeleine Peters, born in 1996, voices Scootaloo (eventually making her an [[AvertedTrope aversion]])[[/note]] Most other child characters are [[DawsonCasting voiced by adult actors]], with a few exceptions:

** Spike is voiced by women in most languages (including Creator/MotokoKumai in Japanese). Averted in Brazilian Portuguese, German, later seasons of the Czech dub, Hungarian, the Russian and Canadian French dubs of the movie, and Arabic.

* DawsonCasting: Averted with Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle, whose voice actresses were ten when they first started recording. Downplayed with Scootaloo, whose VA was thirteen. Later played straight when all three actresses went through puberty. Played straight with a majority of other child characters, exceptions noted under ChildrenVoicingChildren.
* DoItYourselfThemeTune: Averted with Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, and Rarity, but played straight by Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Fluttershy.

*** In "Sleepless In Ponyville", Creator/ClaireCorlett [[http://youtu.be/c7egMfTgaRk does Sweetie's singing herself]], taking CuteButCacophonic far beyond 11 and into ranges that were previously just theoretical. The trope is averted as of the Season 4 episode "Flight to the Finish"; Claire has taken over Sweetie's singing full-time and is doing an excellent job of it.

** Subverted when Creator/JohnDeLancie voiced Discord. He later admitted he had no recollection of ever working on the series until he discovered how much fan mail he was getting.

*** This gets subverted in "Luna Eclipsed", Luna doesn't talk to the other Tabitha characters and [[DeletedScene Rarity's scene was cut for time]][[note]] And again, Tabitha does Twilight's scratch track (Creator/TaraStrong records separately later), who spends most of the episode talking to Luna. It must have been a ''fun'' day at the studio for her.[[/note]] Luna and Rarity finally do talk to each other in "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep" in Season 5.

** Roberta Bartůňková provided the singing voices for ''almost all of the main characters'' in the Czech dub during season 3. During season 4, some characters' voice actors [[UpToEleven gave up their roles to her]]. Then, in season 5, she was [[SubvertedTrope reduced]] to doing vocals for Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, and Fluttershy.

** In season 2, [[http://fyre-flye.deviantart.com/journal/40428056/ she announced that she's only working as a consulting producer]] instead of an executive producer. Inverted in that it sounds like that she had too ''much'' control as opposed to too little. She had zero involvement in Season 3 onwards.

** Also inverted in a way: Ghost of ''Radio/TrueCapitalist Radio'' would often describe himself as "Melting Pot of Friendship" to deflect accusations of racism. He also hates the show and its fandom. So a "[[{{Troll}} fan]]" recorded Creator/TaraStrong saying in her Twilight Sparkle voice that she's a Melting Pot of Friendship. Ghost [[DudeNotFunny took it well]].

** A box set of three Daring Do novels will be published on October 7, 2014. They are even credited to A.K. Yearling.
