I know what the reputation of the minions is on the Internet lately - everyone's sick of them and how both their creators and people from Tumblr oversaturate every inch of the net with them. But personally, I met next to none of the minion craze, and never had anything against minions to begin with, so I watched this movie with no real expectations.
Overall, I'd say that the movie is pretty much meh. While the first half managed to keep my attention, and the various hi-jinks the titular minions get themselves into were amusing to watch at first, the movie starts hitting Ending Fatigue pretty quickly by the second half, with the movie slowing down a bit and focusing more on the not particularly intricate story.
For comparison, the first Planes movie had a plot that was a massive Cliché Storm, but somehow, they were capable of making it somewhat interesting to watch (even if not terribly engaging) from start to finish. With this movie, however, the more I was into it, the more I was thinking: Just for how long is it going to go? The characters - minions or otherwise - aren't particularly interesting, and the villainess that they try to work for is somewhat fun to watch, but nonetheless not super memorable.
Shortly saying, this movie is the best proof for why minions only work in small doses. Try to stretch out their Comic Relief personalities to a movie length, and it starts getting a bit boring after a while.
