I don't typically write reviews. But if you are a fan of Homestuck at all, here is my advice: Do not engage with this. Do not engage with the Homestuck Epilogues either. It is a profound waste of time genetically engineered to disgust/shock the audience rather than tell a good story.
Homestuck^2 wants to bring back the audience the Epilogues alienated. It tries so hard, but not hard enough. Instead, it only served to create more controversy and alienate Homestuck's dwindling fanbase further. Filled with lots of OOC writing, bizarre storytelling decisions and contrived "drama" that makes me want to vomit my intestines out of my body. Not to mention that as of writing this, the final update had the art quality drop off severely.
Every time something remotely interesting ever happened in the story, it would cut back to something else. Dirk and Rose are going to make the new species? Sorry, we have to skip over that so Rose can go outside and cheat on her wife.
The fact that they sacrificed Flashes because "Waah, animation is hard!" takes a toll on the story too. In Homestuck, they worked as a great substitute for comic panels. Watching an animation was significantly more exciting than, say, summing up the action with WORDSWORDSWORDS and a few panels. Here, the lack of flash really hurts the story because they drop what could have been a cool animated sequence to write a 10-paragraph long essay about Vriska firing on journalists. It's jarring and breaks the flow of the story more than they realize.
I think for me the last straw was Jade revealing she went behind Kanaya's back with Rose so she could have a child of her own to care for. That update for me was the peak of the comic's utterly stupid and contrived drama. Rose cheated on her wife for no reason, Jade did it so she could have a child of her own but then shipped the child away to boarding school where she'd never have to see her so people wouldn't find out, making her actions completely irrelevant. That point in the story made me actually feel rage over a plot point for the first time in many years.
Homestuck^2 is a bad story written by people who hate the fanbase and their target audience, and was clearly only created to gather more funds for Hiveswap. You're better off reading fanfiction compared to this drivel. In fact, if you like Homestuck, go to MSPFA and pick any fanventure, complete or no. I'm sure whatever you read will be better than this.
I do not like to be negative when it comes to criticism of media, but this story is beyond salvation. The only saving grace of this is Xamag's artwork, but even then she presumably disappeared around the final update or so.
