[adult swim] at its most boring

You know, I didn't really like Superjail. It was crass, dumb, and most episodes had essentially the same plot. But at least it had, I dunno... a setting. Characters with distinct personalities. Comprehensible visuals. Sometimes jokes. Some stuff like that.

King Star King is one of those cartoons that thinks that creativity and incomprehensibility are the same thing. What we have is a 'story' about the eponymous King Star King, along with some meth-head Donald Duck and an animated waffle house mascot, go on adventures across the galaxy. Plots are there, I suppose. KSK decides to help a put-upon victim stand up to his bully, waffle whatever gets a girlfriend, something something have to escape from another dimension. But plots are largely incidental, mostly excuses to put up whatever it was the writers and animators saw when they were tripping acid the previous day. There are few actual characters, jokes, or themes to speak of.

At many times the emphasis on acid-trip kookiness actively impedes the story. Characters will be violently mutilated in one scene, only to be completely fine later (often in the same scene). Until it gets to the point where they're dead for real for plot reasons. It makes following anything that's going on confusing, only hampered that for all its gore and trippy visuals, it's an extremely boring show.

I don't know how I let myself get talked into watching this show. Ah well. At least it wasn't as bad as Allen Gregory. Well. It wasn't as long as Allen Gregory, at any rate.
