A Good Read

Star Wars: Bloodline provides a good look at the inner workings of the New Republic prior to the events of The Force Awakens. Anyone curious about how the new government functioned ( before being blown to smithereens by Starkiller Base) should read this book.

We are given perspectives from several different characters such as Leia, her entourage, Gasterfo, and Lady Carise. Each has a unique personality that is given decent amounts of time to shine. The only truly dynamic character is Gasterfo, who undergoes significant Character Development over the novel's events. Unfortunately, it's All for Nothing, as he ends up dead.

The only thing that might turn some people off is that this book is primarily a political thriller, not a galaxy-crossing adventure. There is action and planet-hopping throughout, but the main focus is on Leia's career as a senator. I know a lot of people were turned off by the politics of the prequels (though that might just be how they were handled more than anything else), so it's worth knowing that going in.

All in all, an enjoyable read. If Claudia Gray authors any more Star Wars books, I'll check them out.
