Great series overall, but the 3rd book is kind of a letdown

This is a wonderfully written trilogy that is good for fans of fantasy and comedy. Nearly every character is interesting and likable (even the villains!), and my favorite character is Princess, because of how spectacularly she subverts the stereotype of unicorns being pure and innocent.

The only problem I have with this series is the 3rd book. It went by way too quickly for me, and it seems that after all the dramatic buildup he got, the battle against the Maelshadow should have been much, much harder for Max. I also don't like what happens to Princess. After all the Character Development she goes through in the previous book, near the beginning ofthe 3rd book, she goes right back to being evil. Granted, it is against her will, and she does go back to normal at the end of the book, but she spends the majority of the book as a monster.

Despite this, Good Ogre still manages to be a good read, introducing some new characters (such as a LARPer named Melvin, and Flair Bears and Scare Bears, who are parodies of the Care Bears), and keeping the humor and charm of the other 2 books.

All in all, this series has its flaws, but I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a few laughs and a great adventure.
