The Fic all Young Justice fans needs to read

When Young Justice was cancelled, fans howled in anger. Unlike the Justice League Unlimited approach, Greg Weisman had to stop his story with the supervillains of earth not even seriously hurt in the long run. That's why Young Justice Darkness Falls is so important: It continues the story, and brings it to a better ending then we got.

I will say this story is far from perfect. There is an episode or 2 that feels a bit like filler, even though they both foreshadow the future. Also, despite being a clear continuation of YJ, there are several characters introduced that people reading would more easily recognize as being from Teen Titans. On the other hand, how these characters are used is done differently than either comics or that other show, so if readers are willing to look past the surface similarities, they might find the work far more original. In particular, the new versions of Supergirl and Cyborg were of interest to me.

One other potential criticism is 1 decision in "episode" 3 which changes the structure of the "show" for good. Namely, Lex Luthor betrays his organization by giving out a list of the light's plans and notes to Superboy. (or what he 'says' is a list of plans) Doing so effectively cuts the light's legs off, meaning the majority of the fic is spent more with Darkseid.

On a final character note, Artemis's character changes due to a pregnancy. Some fans might think this degrades the character, but overall I found it fine.

And those criticisms aside, the positives of this fic well outweigh the negatives. Darkseid earns his place as the old power brought to the front, with his army, generals, and 1 kill that changes everything. His usurping the show makes sense as presented. The fight scenes are well written, the story engaging like before, and the author also made use of something not used in the show: the montage. It helped with the idea of the passage of time. There's plenty of danger, fear, and even a defeat or two for the team and the league. However, it ultimately creates a season of redemption, of hope, and it even does some Canon Welding between YJ and Green Lantern: The Animated Series via Continuity Nod.

If any fan wants to get a more definitive end to YJ, this is the fic for that. Read it now. You won't be disappointed.
