An Admittedly Harsh, Yet Semi-Loving Review of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

I consider myself a adoring fan of Rock and The Beatles. SPLHCB (I urge you to say out loud) made me that. In the course of less than 40 minutes, I was hooked. I owe so much to this album. Thus, the fact that I think it's one of The Beatles weaker works makes little sense. This, right here, seemed perfect, where every song works, they flow neatly into the next, there is a fantastic artwork adorning it, and it even has a neat concept. I need to go more in dept. Here is my rundown of it, as I try to figure out my feelings.

1—I like this song... but why does it not feel special enough? So many Beatles albums start up fantastically; The raw, rockin' merseybeat of "I Saw Her Standing There" and "It Won't Be Long," the strum of "A Hard Day's Night," the cries of "Help!", the screeching jet of "Back in the U.S.S.R.", etc. But this... a slow guitar build in followed by a surprisingly un-ceremonial "It was twenty years ago today." A shame. 2—It's Ringo Ringoing. Not as fun as "Yellow Submarine," but with merits. Also has the honor of actually following the concept of the LP. 3—One of the album's three or four truly great songs. It's no "I Am the Walrus," but I still feel the marmalade in that sky to this day every time I hear this. 4—Meh. Next! 5—Underrated as heck. This song is experimental, has a nice chorus, etc. Everything people say Sgt. P has, this one does. Good job Lennon-Mc Cartney. 6—*Sob* It's so beautifully sad! *sobs* 7—Meh. I don't skip it usually, but meh. 8—Zzzz... What! Oh yeah... I freaking love Harrison, but this song is easily his worst with the Beatles. Yes, it's worse that Don't Bother Me, Piggies, and Old Brown Shoe. Best album evar status slowly melting! 9—Worth it for that part of Yellow Submarine when everyone grows a beard. Best Beatles movie in my mind. 10—Meh. 11—Good alarm clock song! 12—If it makes it legally definable as a concept album, then reusing the tile song works for me. 13—This is why this album is so adored! It is undeniably the Beatles best song, and it's a perfect album closer. If this song was off the album though... I really doubt it would be praised as is. Anyhow, I give the album: 9/10 Yes, it still earns that. The parse amounts of great songs are some of the best... ever. Take the best of this and Magical Mystery Tour, and you'd probably have the perfect album.

You don't really elaborate on why the songs you think are meh are meh or why the ones that are good are good.

I blame the 400 word limit.

That was the weirdest review I've ever read. O_o
