NPC's got stories

Unlike many longer fanfiction, regardless of Naruto or other fandoms, this one does not concentrate on the main cahracters and protagonist, but rather the supporting cast. To be precise, on Tenten and Shino.

Tenten struck me often as a more whimsical character in the original manga, and basically as filler so the other more interesting characters can interact with someone. In her team she's the plain one, with Rock Lee being a genius of hard work and Neiji being the prodigy of his clan.

Shino got a bit more focus, but only marginally so, and in the usual fashion of Pair the Spares they… and here it grinds to a sudden halt.

In the beginning and early parts of the story the author isn't overtly trying to hook either up with one another, but shows the gradual getting to know each other, becoming friends, showing missions and more. The romance only sneaks in and makes itself slowly comfortable past the first third, but not in place of the established action and humour, rather adding to it instead.

And so the reader sees the gradual development of a beta couple by not watching sappy romance, but very much interactions true to the established characters.

I liked it. Liked it enough to continue reading it a second time once I remembered I had already read it once.
