  • Scrappy Weapon: Nearly all of the firearms you get are hilariously ineffective. Their main purpose is to inflict both damage to health and stamina, but it is so much better to focus on either one bar than both. Plus, Jonathan can carry only a limited number of bullets, and using a firearm will chew through your ammunition quickly. So you'll have to restock often (from merchants or farming Priwen mooks which drop ammo). Normally, that wouldn't be a problem, but it's tedious nonetheless. The one saving grace is that all guns can be upgraded to have chemical/fire damage which is devastating to humans and vampires alike.
    • Another advantage that isn't quite noticeable unless you're on Hard (where you die in a few hits and blood can only last you so long) is that it's completely safe. Unlike melee weapons, where you risk being hit, you can merely dash around attacks and shoot your target(s) to death.
    • Averted by Milton’s Shotgun, which can be bought as early as Chapter 1, deals straight damage, can also be upgraded with fire or chemical damage, and is strong enough to chew through most enemies in one or two shots. Its only weakness is its low ammo count, exacerbated by the fact that it uses two ammo per shot.

Guns can be pretty damned useful. I primarily used them on bosses, and they were indispensable. They're usable at range and don't use stamina. What's not to like? An upgraded shotgun can chew through a boss's HP.
