And speaking of Replacement Scrappies... Chan is often seen is either a non-entity or an inferior replacement for Amuro's Zeta love interest, Beltorchika. It doesn't help that Beltorchika was originally supposed to feature in this film (the manga is even called Beltorchika's Children, and focuses extensively on her and Amuro's unborn child) but was cut because the producers wanted Amuro to have "Bond Girls", leaiding to Chan. The theory goes that Chan's limited screen time and death were direct retaliation by Tomino for being forced to replace Beltorchika with her in the first place.

The reasoning seems fairly solid... except Beltorchika is one of the better known scrappies in the Gundam fandom and I personally haven't seen any vitriol towards Chan.
