Sure, Chase and Nico might be overlooked, but to say that no one would care or notice about the Avengers Academy kids suddenly going AWOL? And of course, X-23 is Wolverine's legally adopted daughter, and he's one of the biggest Papa Wolves in Marvel.

Actually, yes it does. His robot buddy calls him on it. "Suicide by cape".
His reasons are frankly hollow and the issue makes that extremely clear. I say it fits. He's doing something that the series admits is suicidally stupid.

The part that Majin Gojira just added to Accentuate the Negative: "Repeatedly stating in letters answers, interviews and twitter responses that Arena is character driven. Detractors counter that most of the established characters are pale echoes of their former selves, and that all the deaths serve the plot more than them. Determining which is which is up to each individual reader" really seems like shoehorning negative opinions into other tropes. Especially the Canon Defilement bit. But that's just me.
