Regarding the Sliding Scale of Gender Inequality, is Revaire in fact mostly egalitarian? They favor males in the succession, since Jarrod is younger than Gisette and the Widow's parents had a lot of kids trying to get a boy (can't remember if that last part is in the game itself or just on Aly's tumblr). Also the situation where the Widow was married off to a much older man makes it sound like women are generally considered subservient. Not sure on Jiyel either, but being egalitarian would make sense if roles in society are just based on the exams. I just have this vague sense that women are considered to be a lesser gender everywhere except Hise and Skalt, but I don't remember specific details on Jiyel.
