To think about it, how does Sonny qualify as a zombie? I only played a bit of the first game (I didn't like it due to the boring and limited battle ooptions) and none of the second. It seems that he exhibits none of the qualities of a zombie. He resembles more of a Ghoul from the Fallout Series. is there anything ahead of a story that actually shows Sonny being a zombie?
GAME OVER Hide / Show RepliesWell, the most obvious aspect is his green skin, which suggests a partially putrefied body. He also has supernatural powers, was found on a boat flooded with zombies, and is being hunted down by the ZPCI. While not explicitly stated, it seems fairly obvious that he's a zombie (albeit one lucky or special enough to remain intelligent).
But those are not traits of zombies. Zombies are slow, brainless, vicious. The characters of Sonny are not.
GAME OVERNot inherently. The only thing that objectively defines a zombie is "mobile corpse."
But he's not a corpse. Hes alive but mutated. The mutation was even beneficial, just like the ghouls in Fallout 3.
GAME OVERWhat evidence do you have for saying he's alive? He outright says he died, right at the beginning of the first game. Actually, he seems to me more like a Revenant (see The Undead) than anything else.
I always thought the entire point of the game series was chasing after the mystery of why Sonny, Veradux, and Felicity are intelligent zombies, while the rest of the zombies we see are more normal zombies.
(Incidentally, if the OP is still around, you really should play the second game, as it improves on the first quite a bit.)

"Other ways of maintaining [his] hydration":
In the frozen village, when clicking on the frozen well, Sonny states he has exactly these. I'm wondering whether that implies he eats people like other zombies (it seems out of character), or whether I'm misunderstanding something.
