Agreed. As much as I'd like to see it have it's own page as soon as possible, right now we know next to nothing about it. The page would be pretty barren. We should wait until some more information comes out.

I personally don't think a split will necessary at all, but we should definitely wait on it.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?

A split is definitely necessary. Not only do all other individual games have their own page, but from what has been shown of the game we can expect it to be even more different from Metroid II than Zero Mission is from Metroid 1.
Maybe we should split Metroid 2 and Samus Returns into completely different pages? Like Metroid: Zero Mission, this is looking more like a reimaging than a straight up remake.
