Kotaku's hiatus article has no verifiable sources, and no one else has come forward to back up its claims. So there really shouldn't be anything added related to that article until that changes, especially since some sort of downsizing always happens after a big release; full teams are not necessary for patches or DLC. Not to mention that even before Andromeda was released, everyone assumed that the sequel wouldn't happen until after Anthem and Dragon Age 4.

The entries under TroubledProduction.Video Games and FranchiseKiller.Video Games seem based of the Kotaku article. Should those be cut?

Now that the studio is being closed, and it's official that DLC is canceled, at what point are we willing to consider them credible?

I think Jason Schreier has proven the credibility of Kotaku, maybe its time to bring back Troubled Production into the trivia. I'd say Franchise Killer just not yet because there was a video on N7 day, but no official news whatsoever other than a patch for Xbox that updated some graphics.

Okay, okay, I get it, everyone has a list of tropes for gaming studios being shut down or relocated, but...

I think Stillborn Franchise is taking it a step too far. There never *was* to be another Mass Effect game before the next Dragon Age is done, so Mass Effect being put "on hiatus" is either not a thing, or a thing that was planned all along. Not to mention, speculations whether there won't be another part of the Andromeda series at this point are more than ridiculous.

I agree with this. Until we hear otherwise, it's much more likely that any extra content they were planning is going to be merged into a sequel, like the Exalted March expansion for Dragon Age II was.

Stillborn Franchise is too much, but certainly, Franchise Killer is an option.

After all, they just announced that there are no future plans for single player or ing-game story content

Franchise Killer is taking things too far because the announcement was only about post-release content for Andromeda specifically. Anything regarding sequels remains pure speculation.

How long till its deemed a Franchise Killer? Both Superman IV and Batman and Robin were deemed to have killed those respective franchises until many many years later those franchises were rebooted, and even then they're still considered franchise killers as they're the reason why there's such a hiatus in the first place.

Maybe after the release of Dragon Age 4 and there still being no word, since that was when people have always been expecting the next game.

Even then, the anouncement of no DLC is troubling enough to consider it a franchise killer for the time being, at least for me.

But the DLC announcement had nothing to do with future games in the franchise, so calling it a Franchise Killer now is jumping the gun.

My impression is that it takes at least four years to qualify. I'd say five since it took that long between 3 and Andromeda without anyone considering it a killer. How long should we wait?

Granded, that they announced the quarian ark plot will be done through other media (kudos for at least addressing that) as opposed to the sequel is not a good sign for the prospect of future game.

Here's what I propose: Franchise Killer: wait five years and if no future games are heard from, add. Stillborn Franchise: add if the next game is not connected to ''Andromeda" or a Continuity Reboot to it.

Any objections?

This has nothing to do with the Alt-Right, I'm not an Alt-Righter nor do I want any harm to come to Bioware staff or fans.

There's a good chance the franchise is dead but it's still too early to say for certain. However, the studio behind Andromeda being shut down because of this game is an undeniable fact, so Andromeda definitely qualifies as a Creator Killer.

Due to Bioware's history of rotating IPs, I would amend the qualifiers in this case to after the release of Dragon Age 4, but probably better to cross that bridge when we come to it.

New is that the studio behind it is being shut down, leaving no one to work on DLC or any other games in the franchise, is this the point where we can call the game Franchise Killer (or at least Creator Killer)? Can we consider the Kotaku articles credible at this point (since all the evidence by now supports them and Andromeda entries elsewhere on this site cite them)? If not, what would count as adequate evidence to support those claims?

In my humble opinion, you pretty much need several years to confirm claims of franchise killing with such a studio moloch that EA/Bioware is. We're not talking a small first-party developer being disbanded here or getting cut off rights ("The Order: 1886" is a good example for that kind of franchise killing), but a huge franchise worth millions of dollars. Unless whole EA bankrupts or five or so years go by without news of any future Mass Effect game, I'm not convinced it can be considered dead.

As I've said elsewhere, Dragon Age II was considered a franchise killer, Assassin's Creed Unity was considered a franchise killer. But this day and age of blockbuster games can't reliably say a giant series is dead not even six months post-release.

Also, due to the nature of EA/Bioware structure, one studio not even disbanding (as in, people being fired from all of it) but relocating to other projects doesn't necessarily mean DLC or any other games in the franchise are not being made. Not even all of Bioware was axed, just one of its divisions. Mass Effect is the property of EA/Bioware as a whole, not Bioware Montréal exclusively. Therefore, EA can decide to shift development of future installments or even DLC to another subdivision without an issue.

Does Clancy Brown count as a Celebrity Voice Actor? He's had a career in voice work for well over twenty years now (Gargoyles, DCAU, Clone Wars, Rebels, Avatar). It's true he keeps making TV appearances more often than his other actors, but he's hardly abandoned the scene.
