...who the hell wrote this recap? It's half a rant.

I have an idea but it's a bit pointless to check it now. Most tropers are only interested in the actual tropes and we usually skip that first body altogether.

There have been regular complaints about these Go T recaps becoming like a novelization interbred with a high school essay, so I'd say there iis no opposition to trim them down considerably.

  • Glamour: It's confirmed this is how Melisandre keeps up her appearance of youth.
    • We're not sure if a glamour or if it's shapeshifting. Given she moves quite freely when she's in her "youthful" form (compared to her hobbling in her elderly form), it's entirely possible that she actually does take that form. It's too close to confirm.

Pulled from Reality Ensues:

  • Also, in too many chase scenes to count, hearing the hunting dogs of the guys chasing you means nothing special and is just there to raise tension a bit with the audience. Here, it's shown that if the hunters are close enough that you can hear the dogs barking, that means they're almost certainly too close for you to escape them, regardless of what clever tactic you try to use.
    • That's not really reality ensues as the "not reality" isn't set up.
  • Doran Martell's decision to spare Ellaria and the Sand Snakes for their treason backfires in full force when they murder him and his son, while many of his servants stand and watch.
    • How is that "reality"? The trope is for unexpectedly realistic consequences. There's nothing realistic about "SUDDEN COUP FROM NOWHERE."
  • Areo Hotah was stabbed in the upper back on what looks like where his spine would be, this would at the very least cause total paralysis on any human regardless of how badass and large they might be. Not to mention Tyene Sand was very likely using a poisoned blade.
    • That's just... saying what happened. People die when they get stabbed in a vital area. I don't think that's worth noting.

  • The Sociopath: Ellaria and the Sand Snakes are worse than Tywin at this point, brutally murdering their own family, taunting them and showing no remorse. Ellaria even rubs it in to a dying Doran that his beloved son Trystane will not be spared.
    • My issue with this is that they clearly do have emotional attachments, considering that this is all because of Oberyn's death. They also do seem to care for each other in a weird way. They're clearly freaking insane, but I don't think they fit The Sociopath.

What about Moral Sociopathy instead of The Sociopath for Ellaria & co.? They do indeed have emotional attachments, so they're not straight sociopaths, but they've taken up the idea of revenge as their obsession and so completely warped their personal moral codes to accommodate that goal that their morality is now unrecognizable to the rest of society (i.e. child murder and kinslaying are totally okay as long as it furthers our revenge) and basically involves mercilessly, remorselessly, and righteously murdering anyone they deem an enemy.

I think the problem with the second Reality Ensues example isn't that it's not realistic. Doran gives known traitors who've made no secret that they despise every recent decision he's made unrestricted access to his own defenseless person. Nothing unrealistic about their stabbing him in the back the first chance they get.

The problem is that Reality Ensues is defined as a subversion of narrative convention, and there's no narrative convention being subverted, just his own idiocy.
