I am not sure if Data really wants to become human. As often stated, he refused Q's proposition to transform him into a fully human. He stated that he was already superior to humans.

I think Data's goal is to actually strive toward what he doesn't have. It's not the destination, it's the journey. He wants to discover what it is to have emotions, etc.. And he wants to discover it himself.

So.. while it might fit into the trope a little, it am not sure some elements mentionned direclty on the page fits.

Data is an example of this trope- it's practically his whole character arc. But you do raise a good point- a lot of the time this trope isn't about being literally human so much as it is being more like the humans. I've re-written the description with this in mind.
