Is the example under Religion really an example of this trope? It wasn't so much that Jonah didn't want the responsibility of prophesying. It was more a case of Anything but That! because Jonah knew that if he prophesied in Ninevah, they would repent and God wouldn't destroy them (like Jonah seemed to want him to, if his lines in the 4th Chapter are any indication).
I remembered in one episode of Captain Planet the red-head american boy wished to be just a normal teenager rather than a sort of superhero. And, through a back-in-time travel he stops the past himself from gaining the ring. As first conseguence of that his planeteer jacket disappear. Then Gaia shows him the bad conseguence of his act. Nobody took his place and so Captain Planet was never summoned. So the boy does another bak-in-time travel to stop the recent-past himself from stopping the long-past himself from gaining the ring.
