Well, he's something of an Anti-Nihilist existentialist, which probably means, knowing that comic, that he's a self-aware riff on Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus, both of whom in addition to being philosophers were also writers and prominent members of the Paris intellectual community. I could see it being deliberate (white beret instead of black), and I could see it counting as a roundabout, played-with example in that case.
Edited by UnsungAll that is much needed context. I'll take your word for it, as it's been years since I read that comic. As written though, it's not an example.
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"Well, I do say probably. It wouldn't surprise me, but I don't know for sure. I was hoping someone else who reads the comic more regularly would chime in.
I don't think Beret Guy from xkcd counts. He's not an artist or intellectual, he's just kinda goofy. The hats in that comic are mostly so you can tell characters apart, I don't think there's deep characterization involved.
