People forget that Moriarty and Moran are also Irish names. People don't tend to think of Moriarty as representing any Ethnic Mob type organization, just being a Rich and Powerful man who's corrupt. But since we don't know allot about his background, and given the context of this story, maybe he does have a connection to Irish revolutionaries/criminals just like Paul FĂ©val's earlier Fergus O'Breanne did.
