Removed from main page, as there is a cleanup effort on one of the pages linked here underway and I am not sure what to do with this entry:

Altered this:

Menion Leah may qualify by the end of the book.
Because huh? Less than halfway through the book, Menion Leah single-handedly fights off a creeper with nothing but a non-magical sword. His character is introduced as being the best archer, and one of the best swordsmen, in the Southlands. Menion is arguably the biggest Bad Ass in the Company from Culhaven, with only the possible exception of Allanon.

True, but he's not really treated as a Badass by the author, or the other characters until near the end. Still, not really worth fighting about.

Obvious love interest is obvious. Menion and Shirl. Man, this book is predictable.

If you don't know the ending, I suggest you stick it out. Let's just say you might be surprised by what the Sword does.

Oh, and I will never understand the LOTR comparisons. There's some similiarities, but at the end of the day, the character's are pretty different.

And besides, Edgy, I don't see the point of complaining about a book you don't like on a wikia-like site anyway....

I haven't hard time getting through this Sword of Shannara. I've just gotten through "The Council of Elron" scene. So far, the book seems like a watered down Fellowship of the Ring.

Except that, it manages to water down the whole Tolkienian door-stopper in about half a book. The other half starts to be quite different somehow. But apparently it doesn't stop fans of TheLordOfTheRings from accusing the whole series to be a rip-off, even if they read only the first book.
